Redecorating in Sims Medieval
« on: March 31, 2011, 06:00:00 PM »
I'd like to see how some of you have redecorated in Sims Medieval.  I'll admit that I'm stumped and have resorted to putting a row of large jars along one wall of my church to get an increased decorated buff and it looks so very lame.  If you'd like to share your redecorated castle or other buildings, please use the Gallery or Photobucket and limit them to 5 images per post.

I'm about to go play so will give it a shot for you Pam.

EDIT:  Total fail here.  I simply cannot get a screen shot.  I tried prntscrn but when I try to paste it into paint it's all black and I don't know any other way to do it.  Oh, I did try ctrl C but that didn't work either.

So, for your Peteran monastery.  You need to have some simoles but here's what you can do.  Go into the structural tab in build/buy, (furnish) mode.  Remove all the lower level stone work except maybe the alcoves right at the front.  Replace the stone with oak panels.  Go into the walls section and replace the shabby looking upper stuff either with plain stucco or one of the mural types.  You can color the plain stucco or use one of the fabric or rug patterns.  I used an all over green/gold fabric pattern.  Go into the decorative section and choose the red wool rug.  This is a long rug.  You can move the pews to the side straight on and place the long rug down the center forming an aisle.  I recolored all the wood a much lighter "blonde" color.  You can recolor the rug.  I colored the outer edges with the same green pattern I used on the wall and colored the middle section a plain, dark green.  Of course you can use any color you want.  I made the foyer walls plain stucco.  I made both the foyer and church floors a patterned stone.  (bought in the floor section) and made one part of the stone white and left the other dark grey.  I moved that table that's in the foyer into the church at the head, (near the door), of the rug but not on the rug.  In it's place I had gone into where you can get statues and chose one of the gilded things, there are two to choose from.  I put two pots of sage on either side of this and the watcher's work bowl in the center of the floor like a baptismal or holy water font.  I also put two pots of sage on either side of the podium.  The only things I did with the bedroom, beside moving furniture around and adding a larder, was I added a wash bowl and made the walls plain stucco.

Had I wanted the church part to look more Catholic or Episcopal I would have added different stone statues or maybe more of those gilded things.  I never thought about banks of candles till just this second but that would also have worked.  I wanted to keep the church more generic and not lean toward any particular faith we may be aware of so tried to keep it simple and welcoming.

There is so much stuff in the furnish thing you can really do a great job remodeling anything, especially with the structural pieces.  Of course, you look less medieval then but there really is a huge amount of things to try.  I started out by "papering" walls with the rugs and fabrics and THEN discovered all these goodies doing the church!  Now I want to go back and redesign everything.

@Joria - Why do you press PrtSc or Ctrl + C? It's just C for me.

I play on a MacBook Pro so a few of the hot keys differ from those on Windows. I too press C to capture a screen shot. I hide the User Interface (UI) by pressing the F10 key then compose and capture screen shots. The jury is still out on the camera animation but it is a good sign that I got the picture.

Oh, sorry, I didn't think it was a Mac. Yeah, Mac and Windows differ. C works for Sims 3 for me, too.

I have not really had much of a chance to do much decorating yet because my Heroes all have low funds and I refuse to cheat. I think my Queen is gaining money while I am playing other Heroes though so that should be good!

Samoht, be sure that the first thing you buy is a better bed. Once I got enough in funds with my Queen, I bought a nice bed. She can now enjoy sleeping. :)

The Princess and Lair of Dark Sorcery throne rooms come with upgraded beds to begin with, so you can save your simoles if you choose one of them.  The other absolute necessity for any hero in my opinion is a larder.

Back on topic...when I play later I will post pics of some of my redecorated spaces from my first kingdom.

Here is my wizard's tower.  She and my Peteran priest married and had 2 children.  I made the upstairs the children's room and moved all her wizarding supplies to the ground floor.

My blacksmith married my spy so my redecoration included adding some of her occupational equipment into their living space.

This is my throne room, just recolored.

sigh.  I wonder if it's the mouse I use or something?  Clicking C doesn't work for a screenie, neither does prntscrn or ctrl C.  I've redecorated every single building I've got or had in a different game and am sulking because I can't show off.  Ah well, at least I'm learning how to use the goodies available.

You don't click C.  You press the C key on your keyboard.

That's what I meant.

Great pics Katluvr!  Your rooms are really beautiful yet remain medieval in flavor.

Ok.  When you mentioned something about your mouse, I thought you were doing something different.  So, while you're in game and press the C key on your keyboard, you don't hear the camera shutter sound?  You don't need to press anything except the C key.  It will put the screenshot in the folder just like it does in Sims 3.

@Katluvr your pics are great-looks much prettier and cozy but still Medieval.
@Joria I am on a mac - when I click on the "C" key I hear a click sound.  The photos are then saved to folder called screenshots-located here:
Finder, Documents, Electronic Arts, The Sims Medieval, Screenshots.
If that doesn't work for you, you could try putting your Medieval Game Window in window view by clicking on command and return, then on the keyboard hit Control, Shift, and 4
You'll then get a different cursor, just put a box around the area you want to take a picture of and a screenshot will save to your desktop. The screen shot photo that is saved to the desktop will be called something like: Screen shot 2011-01....png  Screen shot 2011-02...png and so on.
