Graduation Thymes Two

The day after his birthday Thyme went visiting his high school friends about town.   Shellie Hankins and his half-brother Randall were holding a protest at City Hall.  Something about science if the signs were any indications.  He couldn't get anyone to explain what it was all about so he waved goodbye to the people he knew.

The point in telling that story was to mention that as the next day was graduation day.  As we arrived outside City Hall, there was yet another protest going on.  Some of the same people from the previous day were there but today they seemed to be against unicorns.  I don't know where the youth of today gets these strange ideas.

Thyme was named valedictorian during the ceremony.  He gave a speech that not only impressed his classmates but also most of us that live with him.   At the end of the event, Principal Skinner handed Thyme a ribbon.  Apparently, he had been voted most likely to be a Rock Star.  He accepted the ribbon with a laugh.  We've hung it up with his diploma in his museum room.

Of course, Thyme's girlfriend Josephine also graduated on Sunday.  She didn't seem as excited as Thyme to be getting out of high school.   Most of us wondered why but it was when Dad was interviewing/questioning her after the ceremony that we found  out why.  Apparently, Josephine has become a bit of a grump since her birthday.

The rest of the house has gotten used to the bus not arriving in the morning.  I think Thyme is still adjusting to it himself.  His new work hours are in the evening so he tries to find things to do with himself. He hasn't really been concentrating on much.  I think he's just enjoying the unstructured lifestyle of being an adult.  I thought he understood that things were being asked of him for the dynasty but I'm not entirely certain of that anymore.

Of course, he's not the only one that's been spending time in my time machine.  Both Betty and Yusun have taken turns traveling to the past and future.  Both have even returned home with some interesting outfits.  On occasion, I find them wondering about the house and everywhere else in them.  Each one recolored to their own liking.

Yusun actually grabbed me the other night demanding I go out with her to The Grind.  She threatened to hit me with a club like the cavewoman she was dressed as.   I almost wanted to keep resisting to see if she would really do it but she wouldn't let me.  So we spent the night dancing in each other's "arms."

Of course, we're not the only ones that have been spending quality time with one another.  Josephine has been visiting Thyme every night since they became young adults.   I heard a rumor going about time that they've both managed to gain a faithful reputation.

Then the night came that I think Betty has been waiting for come along.   Jessica finally graduated from LeFromage and came home.  Fresh out of school and her lifetime wish already achieved.  As soon as she walked through the gate, Betty grabbed her into a bear hug.   The rest of us retreated inside to get ready for bed while the two of them caught up and settled in.

First Thyme Trying

Wow it's been a little while since Dad updated this thing.   After graduation, all of them sat me down and explained why the old people in my family only sometimes die.  Grandpa Sage couldn't believe they'd left it so long before actually spelling it out.  I let them know it was ok.  The ambrosia has obviously been getting to their heads.   Sage also warned me not to mention it to anyone, not even Jessica because Betty wanted to handle that.  Sure, whatever old man.

To Uncle Mint's delight and to Betty's dismay, the day after Jessica was back she announced she was going to become a painter full time.  She said that's all she had really wanted to do since she went away to school.  So now when we want to find her, you have to check the art room first.  Although, I see her more with a sculpting chisel in her hand than a paintbrush these days.

Did I mention that with the two of them it's like a pink explosion in that room?  Now all we need is for Grandpa Pepper to start spending all his time in there.

Speaking of Grandpa Pepper, he got a job offer from the hospital.  Apparently, they had noticed his field medical skills and wanted him on their team.  It was only level 9 as a Neurosurgeon but Gramps took it anyway.  Now instead of Officer Steel he's Doctor Pepper.

In other weird job news - Sage Steel quits his job to spend more time in his garden.  Actually, he's been letting all the plants die so he can start over or something.  I don't get it but hey, it's his hobby.

Now that I know the family's dirty little secret, well I know what it is not why we're doing it - no one knows that.  Oh yea.. so now that I know it, I realize that this means I'm actually going to need to think about kids and the future at some point.  My dad asked me how things were going with Josephine.   Apparently around town we're considered eternally faithful.  I just didn't know what to say when they asked.  Never thought about it.   When I asked one of the roadies at work about it, he asked if she passed the grocery store test.  Apparently, the grocery store test is this.  If you would go to the grocery store with her, she's the one.  Or something like that.  I guess I just need to figure out if I would go to the grocery store with her.   I mean who goes to the grocery store?  Maybe for cake…

Oh man, you will never guess what happened today though.   Doctor Pepper had his first free clinic at Central Park.  Our distant and creepy cousin Louis Goth was his first patient.   Then right after the diagnosis was complete, one of the other people waiting just croaked right there and then.   Obviously, she shouldn't have waited for a free clinic.

Hmm.  Not really much else going on other than my stomach is letting me know there is some mac & cheese waiting to be devoured nearby.  Plus Uncle Mint is tutoring Jessica in photography and the yammering is really starting to make my head hurt.  That's usually my cue to jet anyways.  Tomorrow the family leaves for a 24 day trip to China.  Apparently everyone is going but Ole Sage-Roni.

Peace.  8)

[Ricanote: So my original plan to have Jessica and Thyme together has been one of those "the plans of mice & men" type deals.  I swear.   I had Thyme get a girlfriend in high school for part of the story.  He was about to break up with her when they hit adult when they got the faithful rep.  Then out of nowhere it was upgraded to eternally faithful.  I don't understand how to even get the reputations but now I don't want to ruin it.  I've also been dealing with a ton of game crashes lately.  I'm thinking my computer doesn't like playing Sims for more than 1 hour anymore.   But it knows to only crash after I've adapted around the game changes.  So I've seen several characters die for no reason and I've seen Josephine become  a vamp once or twice.  But now she's not.  Story Progression is a tease.  Bigger update next time.  I'm just now finishing up the 24 days in China.  Until next time - thanks for reading!]

[Oh and full credit for the Doctor Pepper thing to my husband.  I was talking about my Sims one night and I mentioned that one was named Pepper.  He asked if it was Dr Pepper.   That's when I realized, I totally missed his calling.  When the option came up to transfer jobs - I had to take it.  Especially since Dr Pepper is one of my favorite drinks.  ;D ]

The Doctor Pepper comment made me giggle. Of course! How did we all miss this?

Thyme and Josephine are adorable together, Jessica will just have to find her own man, or something.

Death at a free clinic is fast becoming a TS3 death staple, like paparazzi on the front lawn.

Vacation Thyme

Ahh China.  Beautiful women, great food and lots of messes all over the countryside.   The view from our vacation home is pretty good too.   It's almost worth the amount of time it took to get here. [ricanote: 30 minute loading screen!]

Everyone in the house came on this one except for Sage.   He said there was no way he was leaving his garden to die while we all floundered around somewhere else for 27 days.  Mint and Jessica immediately went up to the art room and started doing their thing.   We tried to talk Mint into just relaxing but he said it felt weird not to be creating something.

All the other elderly in the house crowded into the living area to do what they love to do.   Why come to another country to do what you did at home?  Betty cleaned up after everyone and then joined them.

Me?  What was I doing?   Well I just couldn't sit around all day.  I like my family, sure, but I couldn't stay inside with them all the time.  I put down my guitar and decided to try my hand at an old pastime.  Of course, when the first thing I caught happened to be a goldfish.  I was a little disappointed.

One exciting thing that did happen here was we actually had a burglar show up.  I guess the ones back home know better since Gramps has been a cop forever until recently.   They obviously didn't know that here.  It was actually really strange for me.  It was like the moment the burglar stepped onto the property.  I somehow knew.  So did Dad.  I was closer to the stairs so I got to her first.   She hadn't even made it into the house when I tackled her.  It was so totally awesome.   She fought me a little bit but I still won.  I didn't even know I had that in me.  It was like.. I was Superman.

Eventually Jessica kicked Mint out of the art room once she got to the ice stage of her sculpting.   She became an ice sculpting machine.  Betty was constantly complaining about having to clean up puddles in the room from all the ice chips.

One of the locals in town said something about a dragon shrine way back in the hills.  I grabbed the tent and some supplies and went to check it out.   When I told Gramps where I was headed, he said that at one time Sage's best friend Chris had come to the same spot to catch Koi and Dragon Fish.  Told me good luck and then laughed his way down to the game system.   I'm not sure what to make of that.
After trekking around the hills all day, I finally found the spot I was looking for.   It was beautiful.  So many fish to catch, so little time.   I went to work right away.  I was always told the fish were bigger at night anyway.

Of course fish isn't all you find when you're out there.  I got a couple old school guitars and some escape dust.   The catch that got me level 10?  A skeleton key.  Not sure what it does but it's awesome right?

After maxing out my level, I made the trek back home to do the same with my guitar skills.   A rock star can't become a rock star based on his fishing skill you know.  Jessica was still working on those 25 ice sculptures she needed.

While I was out fishing up more than my share of the native koi.  Mom and Betty went to the local academy for a little fun.   I wish I had been there to watch them smack at those training dummies.

I went to check on Jessica for dinner one night when I came across her cheering and clapping all by herself.  She had just finished her last ice sculpture.  I'm not going to say what I said when I noticed it was a john.  However, I will mention that Jessica packs a mean punch for such a little hand.

Since we were all together for dinner and Jessica was running to eat it upstairs in the art room, Mom gave that look she gets when she's serious and said it was family time.  So I joined Dad and Gramps with a little gaming while everyone else watched.   We all just chilled for the rest of the night.  It wasn't so bad.  You could definitely tell that it had been a while since some of us talked.  Both Mom and Betty told us about their training down at the academy every day.  They've both gotten close to the point where they can attempt to break their hands on space rocks.   I don't know why they would want to do that really.  This is also when they broke down and told Jess about the dynasty.   Betty said she wanted to be the one to tell her just in case there were any questions that only she could answer.  Of course, Betty started it off by telling Jess that she didn't have to marry me.  That got my attention.  I've been with Josephine since high school and had no idea I was expected to marry anyone.   Jess told her mother that she was crazy because there was no way she would marry me.  I'm still not sure if I should be offended or not.

The next day we all went for a trip down into the chinese catacombs.  Who knew there were so many bears native to China graveyards.

After a shower, I went back to the graveyard to do a little fishing in the wee hours of the morning.  I got my first deathfish right there.  The one I got here was not as cute and small as the ones we feed in the fish tank back home.  Makes you wonder.

I spent the last week we were there just trying to fish as much as possible.  Jessica worked on various types of sculptures for some challenges Mint told her about.  And she actually got some painting time in.  Of course, the best part about her not working on ice anymore was the accident.  I doubt she would see it that way.  It was day 26 out of 27 and Mint says at breakfast.  "You know Jessica has been really lucky working with metal sculptures.  She's almost got her five without having caught anything on fire."  It was less than an hour when we heard her squeal and scream.

Mom and Dad spent the last two days just being all lovey dovey gooey yucky with each other.  She's around 99 and doesn't think she's going to get very many more days so they're cherishing every moment that's left.  Gramps made sure all of us gave them room to be alone.  He remembers the last days he spent with Gramma.  It kind of made me realize that one day this will be me.

Finally the end of day 27 came and went.  We packed up everything, made sure the house was clean and vamoosed it back to Sunset Valley.  Needless to say, I was thrilled to be back in modern civilization.  While I feel closer to my family in general, I have to say I think Gramps, Mint and Betty came out the closest.

[Ricanote:  Your sims ever do something that just makes you wonder about them?

Yeah.. Thyme just jumped on in with his parents.   Weirdo.

It was kind of awesome that Thyme and Coriander got up to beat down the burglar.  I guess since he's a doctor now - Pepper couldn't be bothered but his grandson took care of it for him.

So they survived 27 days in China and so did I! Whoo!  Jessica completely supermaxed her sculpting and got to I think lvl 6 on painting.  So Mint's replacement is almost in place.  It's sad to think of it that way but part of me has to in order to keep going.  You know? Thyme managed to max guitar and fishing plus catch about 300 fish.  So he's about 50 fish and a couple of species away from supermaxing fishing.

The day they got back - Yusun was 99, Mint was 96 and Betty was 92.   So I can't promise a happy update next time around.  Until then  Happy Simming!]

Just a Matter of Thyme

I remember feeling something when Gramps mentioned that Mom would be gone soon.  I remember thinking that there was no way it was going to happen soon.   We had only been home a couple of hours from our trip to China when it did happen though.   I was at work.  Mint and Mom were having caveman vs cavewoman video game war with Dad watching when she got up and started flowing.

Dad was instantly devastated.  Mint said it took a moment to sink in what his eyes were seeing.

Even though Mom was a local news anchor, she was a star that was known far and wide.  I guess it's kind of comical that even in death people were trying to reach her.

I'm told Mom greeted Death with dignity.  She didn't beg for extra time or give him sass.  I think her and Dad came to terms with this possibility while we spent time away.

The creepy thing is that apparently Mint and Betty are both well liked by the Reaper.   We weren't sure if that was a bad omen or if he was just star-struck with having seen them.

As I was leaving work, Josephine was waiting outside for me.   She told me about Mom and then held me close when it sunk in.  It was in that moment that I knew beyond any doubt that I wanted Josephine with me for the rest of her life.  It's hard to think in terms like that but knowing my dad will live forever and that my Mom just passed away, I have to face reality.  She immediately said yes.  I think she understood what I was feeling.  She almost said no because it was getting close to her mom's final moments.  We'll do the best we can to invite Mrs Noland over every day.

I wasn't the only one not at home when all this happened.  Jessica was fast reaching Superstardom living in a house of them so she had gotten a call when we got home to go dance at the Grind.  She was there when everything happened.  I think she was having fun though so none of us called her to ruin it.

[Ricanote:  Ok.  So.  I love that picture right there of Jessica.  Not only does she have this man eating sexy beast thing going on but Randall Steel is shaking his groove thang as well as any Simbot can.

Ok now for Josephine's makeover.  She came to the house the same age as Thyme - 13 days until adult.  Her favorites are White, Tri-tip Steak and Indie music.  Her traits as of this moment are Brave, Athletic, Friendly, Grumpy and Can't Stand Art.   Her LTW is to be a Superstar Athlete.  She has no athletic skill but she has 4 in inventing and 3 in writing.  I've included a before and after closeup shot.  Here's to hoping she shares those eyes of hers.]

I can't believe I did either.  There was a lot of speeding up.  It helps that I could throw all the old people in front of the tv.  I was afraid that if I sent some home early that I might not be able to get them all back.  I'm still scared that a green square problem will arise but what can you do.   Thanks for the reading!

Actually thank you to all my readers!  I just hope you guys enjoy the family as much as I do. Although.. I am running out of phrases to use time in lol.

Wow, nearly a month in china, that's certainly an achievement, especially since nothing went wrong *confetti* I'm tired of WA causing problems for my favorite stories, so I shake my fingers at it vigorously. Josephine is lovely, and her eyes are crazy cool.

If you haven't been keeping up with the Dynasty Challenge thread, then you don't know I've officially had to give up on my old dynasty files.  Unless someone else can come up with a way to get rid of the crashing, error 12s and exceptions to be debugged; I'm going to be unable to continue this dynasty.  Nothing I have tried has helped thus far and it breaks my heart to announce this.    I have decided to start over with Artie and I'm unsure of what to do with the Steels as of this moment.  I'm open to suggestions from their fans.

I'm sorry about these bugs Rica! You've gotten so far. I'm glad about restarted with Artie but I think Sage deserves another chance at the Hall of Fame or you could make this Dynasty unofficial.

I'm so sorry, Rica. You could restart with Sage, as the dynasty would still be the House of Steel Dynasty, even if we have to wait a little while for our Dr. Pepper again.  :P
