The Steels finally all went to places that weren't home as they received a call saying that there were termites in their roof or something.  I took advantage of their trust in that phone call to completely demolish the house I loved making and make a new one!  It took all of my playing hours from Friday to Sunday to finish it  but here it is!

The front of the property from across the street.

The new party patio type area for all the upcoming birthday parties

The very upgraded pool area.  This is the closest I could get to the Grecian temple my husband suggested.  The tile is one of the new patterns available from Generations.  In the back is a small martial arts area for Shantel to use now and for my future martial artist to use later.

My Secret Garden full of wonderful stuff for children to play with.  Generation 4 is going to have a blast when he/she is growing up.

Overhead view of the second floor.  The living room and kitchen are in the center with Sage's bedroom being the top right and Coriander's being the bottom right.  The left side is the nursery and children's bedroom.

Overhead view of the lower level.  I haven't decided what to do with the giant room so right now it holds the maybe useful Coriander sculptures plus the treasure chests.  I have moved the gym from the backyard structure to here.  We have the remaining bedrooms down here, an inventing room and an in-home movie theater.

A view of the living room from the corner with the bookcase.  Agnes's portrait looks on from the side.

Here's a view of the space where I put a juice bar and in the back is the dining room.

Sage's kitchen - if it becomes a problem with immortals learning cooking, I can close off the open spaces and put doors that are locked.

The kid's room decorated in Castle grandeur.  There are some really awesome new paints and stuff for the walls with Generations but with all the stuff in the room you couldn't see the paint so I changed it to match.

The doors to Coriander's inventing room as well as the laundry machines.

The inside to his inventing room.  It's not as cool as Velmoor's but I think it turned out nice.

The in-home movie theater - Sims can reach the second row of seats up on the platform.  I also made sure that it was dark like a movie theater should be.

And lastly, the downstairs kitchenette with a view of the gym.  I put this down here for quick snacks and, of course, popcorn cravings for the movie theater next door.

Thank you for looking at my second house tour and I'll be back with an update soon enough!

Your house is absolutely stunning! :D

I loved the playground, the pool area and the home movie theater - wonderful blend of colors!

Lastly, I'd like to note that the whole thing looks very realistic - well done! Looking forward to the update. :)

A Week of Sadness

I'm not entirely certain that the Steels are in a mood to comment right now.  You see they were all ecstatic about their rebuilt house and all it's new and exciting stuff.  However, the 120 Sim hours that followed the rebuild were some of the hardest ones this family will ever face.  Five days is all it took to shatter quite a few worlds.  As this isn't an easy post for me either, the story mode is going to be turned off and I'm going to tell you what has happened. :(

I've known for quite some time now that Grim would be visiting the Steels.  I've been dreading it and waiting for it to be over with.   As the rebuild was happening, the thought was in my mind that I would be losing someone from this family soon enough.  All of them had been close in age since childhood.  About 24 hours after the house had been reopened for them, Shantel Steel went to work to prepare for tomorrow's game.   Less than an hour after she arrived, she stepped outside the stadium for the last time.   Grim came for our Shantel on her 100th day.

Shantel was the first death to happen from inside this house since Jamie and Chris had died together.   All of her boys took it very hard to have her gone after all this time.  Coriander, who had wanted her to be there for his wedding, couldn't believe she was gone.  However, it was Pepper that missed her most of all.  Every call from his agent that involved dancing was turned down.  He only left the house to work. He even refused his weekly ambrosia.

Sage and Dill did what they could to help Pepper heal during his time of mourning.  They dragged him into the movie room to play video games on the biggest TV in the house.  Mike snuck away to Shanika's house to spend time with his beloved.  Dill and he were only 4 days younger than Shantel and Shanika was a day younger than him.  Time felt heavy.

Grim and Fate are cruel creatures.   Twenty-four hours after we had lost Shantel, I received notification that we had lost her sister Lilian Woods as well.   Mike had an errand to turn in a sculpture to the police department.  He didn't make it inside as his ladylove was coming out.

As I said, they are cruel creatures.  Shanika was 96 when she was taken from our lives.  She will always be remembered as the spiritual wife of Mike Steel.  She brought us three beautiful boys that we were able to watch grow from a distance.  In fact, after picking up his love's tombstone, Mike went to visit the Jameson house to console his three sons.   He taught them that it was ok to move on after losing their mother.   He spoke of when he had lost both of his parents at the same time.  He also prepared them for what he could only guess would happen any moment.  He made them promise to visit with Pepper and to visit often for whatever they needed.

In the middle of heartache, Mint decided to forego the usual birthday festivities.  So it was in the new art room, next to a giant block of stone that he aged up into his adulthood.   It's hard to get enthusiastic about getting older when loved ones aren't there to share it.

The sadness over the house has everyone in a funk.  Dill goes out to play with the new water slide but in the end it doesn't go as planned.  He realizes it's safer to just back into the house and paint like he's used to.

On his 98th day, Grim took another one of our family.  It had only been 46 hours since Shantel had left them.  Everyone was still in mourning when the air in the art room grew cold.  Dill had just finished a sketch on the drafting table and was going to grab the painting he did that morning plus the sketch so he could start another one.  Fate decided these two shall be his last.

Dill had never had a family like Mike and Pepper.  He had fallen in love with and older Morganna Wolff at a young age and he always told them that she was his one and only.  Sage knew the day would come when he would lose his second son. The actual loss was more painful than he could imagine.  It had been so long since they had seen Grim come for one of them and now it seemed the Reaper was taking vengeance upon Sunset Valley as three more family friends passed that night.

Coriander left the site of Dill's death with a vengeance of his own.  He went to work at two Angry Ghost Invasions.  There was no sweet talking the ghosts back into their graves tonight.  On this night, he found the room they were hiding in and immediately pulled out his banisher.  Somewhere along the way, he received his last promotion.  He was now a Paranormal Profiteer.  His lifetime wish was fulfilled.  He thought he would be happier.  Even the city seemed to be more excited than he was.  The mayor called him down to City Hall the next morning to give him a Key to the City.

I wish I could end this post now, but I feel I must report all that happened that week now.  It's like taking a bandaid off.  It's best to do it as fast as possible.  Just as the 48 hour mourning period was about to be over, I heard the Reaper again.  Mike had just finished the exact same architectural sketch that Dill had done right before his death.  I quickly had Mike take the sketch from the table.  Something in my mind told me that this was obviously an omen.  Turns out I was right.  Mike didn't stay very long.  He was 100 and he knew what was going on.  He had just seen the love of his life and two of his best friends go to the other side.  So when the Reaper stopped with all his dramatics, Mike bypassed him and went straight to his urn.  No handshake, no begging, no slapping of the scythe.

When the chance to go to her Aunt Lashonda's party popped up, Yusun decided she wanted the chance.  It was Saturday night.  I still couldn't believe in less than 96 sim hours, I had lost all three of my elders. The newspapers every morning had been full of nothing but death notices.  I figured a party would do Yusun some good.  Little did I know that Grim needed one more soul before he would be done.

It was then that Yusun called Coriander and told him to meet her at the park in his formalwear with the two moodlet managers. Upon seeing each other, they kissed and gave each other a buzz.  Then taking matters into her own hands, Yusun told Coriander to marry her right now.  Coriander saw no problem with this as all their reasons for waiting were gone.  It was there on the little island where his parents had gotten married in the park where his grandparents had also tied the knot that Coriander took Yusun to be his bride.  We had put in the arch during the house rebuild so we could all celebrate together here but this works just as well for me and them.

With the new policy of getting two days off, neither one worried about what time it was.  They flitted around the house being frisky.  Enjoyed a shower together.  Took a trip to the treehouse.  It was good to see some people be happy in the house for once.

I am happy to announce that I can end this post on somewhat of an even higher happy note.  It didn't take very much at all for Coriander to do his duty to the family.  So soon what is now five will become six.

Thank you for reading! Happy Simming!

Oh wow, that is a harrowing series of losses, RIP to all those who left, and apparently they'll need a full sized jet to take them all to awesome Sim afterlife.

*Confetti and Rice* for Yuson and Coriander.

Your house if fabulous, I'm really green with envy, I wish I could produce house shaped houses *sigh* so pretty.  I like your inventing room, it's just not stuffed with all the weird things you could find in the decor section is all LOL

Yay for upcoming nooboo happiness that's always a sure fire way to help get over major Sim losses.

That must have been very hard to play, as well as write, for you Rica. Waiting for Grim to take them for such a long time - to make room in the house - but then having to lose them all right after each other. It's like Grim came to purge the neighbourhood of everyone over the age of 90. It's a comfort to know though that they had very happy lives, and hopefully their afterlives will be just as happy.

On a happier note; I absolutely love the rebuild of your house. I'm a huge fan of having the living space on the first floor. The outside especially looks very well designed and very well balanced. My favourite is the Grecan temple to house the pool. You've inspired me to do a Greek or Roman spa complex of my own (if I ever get around to playing again :P)!

If I could give you one tip though; you created a roof that looks a lot like what you'd call the pediment (I believe this is the English word for it). What it lacks however, is the classic solid base of the pediment, the entablature (divided in architrave and frieze). What you could do to make the temple look more realistic is add a frieze below the roof, that way you have a rudimentary entablature and it will look more like a greek temple. Another idea would be to see how it looks with a few more columns, since actual greek temples had so many columns they almost looked solid. If you're looking for a quick, basic, "crash course" in greek temple architecture you may want to check out this image.

I'm very much looking forward to meeting the next generation after all this sadness; congratulations to the expecting parents!

Cycle of Life

With all of the death in the family, none of us have felt like doing our normal routine.  Grandpa and Dad said I should keep doing the family updates.  It's my time for now and I will pass it along to my child when it's time for them.  My child.  Just thinking those words fills me with sunshine.  I don't know any other way to explain it.  It's like being on fire.  It's warm and exhilarating.  Yusun says it's official.  We're going to be parents.  I said I wanted a boy and she just wants a healthy baby.

Ever since we got married, I've noticed some changes in her.  But they're good changes, don't get me wrong.  Dad says he's noticed them, too.  I think the thought of having a real grandchild has helped him deal with Mom's death.  He finally started eating his ambrosia again.

Now that her morning sickness seems to be over, Yusun says her back has started to hurt something awful.  I massage it as much as I can but when I'm at work, I can't always help.  She snuck into Grandpa's chair and took a nap.  She said it did nothing for her back but it felt really good.

While she's busy creating life and working on her articles that she can do from home, I have been handling all the wedding gifts.  Uncle Dill and Mom must have known we would do it anyway and had gifts bought and ready to ship for when it was announced.  I did send Thank You notes to everyone else though.  Even my mechanical son, Randall, sent us a little something.  That was so sweet of him.  I'm best friends with him and still I can't seem to get over the fact that he's a SimBot.   I wonder can SimBots have children?

With Mom gone, the house is starting to become kind of a mess.  Instead of hiring a maid, Yusun suggested a butler.  So Butler Sha Sha Arthur came to our door.  She does an OK job cleaning but she has a bit of a baking problem.  Grandpa Sage has issues with a person who won't use his perfect produce to make dinner for his family.  I get the feeling that we won't be keeping a butler for long.

I'm sure the rumors have reached everyone's ears by now that I'm a bit of a daredevil.  Dad says I get that from Christopher Steel.   I don't see anything wrong with enjoying the extremes of life.  One thing I've noticed that no one else will do is slide down the new spiral staircase.  I don't know why.  It's obviously the fastest way up and down the house and it's so much fun.

As our pregnancy gets closer to the final event, I find myself wanting to spend as much time with Yusun as I can.  She says I'm going to be a great father.  When I ask her how she can tell, she always says because I'm attentive and the baby isn't even here yet.  I love to feel the little one kick.  I also like to talk to the belly so that they will know the sound of my voice later.

I don't want you to think that I only pay attention to my wife's belly though.  I love spending time with my wife.   We're in our later stages of life but we've known each other since we were kids.  We were friends long before we wanted to be lovers.  One of our favorite things to do right now is to sit out on the front deck and just watch the stars together.  It's always so peaceful and quiet.  Dad calls it the quiet before the storm.

Then the moment came that I had been waiting for.  After reading the books, researching on the internet, and going to a few birthing classes, you would think I would know how to act as soon as Yusun's contractions started.   -- Not at all.   The moment I saw my wife in pain, I panicked.   It took a few moments for Yusun's breath to come back to her when finally she snapped at me to go get the car.  Drugs! She wanted drugs!  So to the hospital we went.

A few hectic hours later, my son was born.  I'm proud to show the first of many pictures of the newest Man of Steel - Thyme Steel.

Well that's all I'm going to write for now.  I want to go play with Thyme and check in on Yusun to make sure she doesn't go stir crazy!

Ricanote: Thank you everyone for reading the story.  Yes the last update really was hard to write and it was horrible to play for a moment.  After Shantel was taken, I knew that the others would soon follow.  They all died late into their 90s and I know they led happy lives, doing what they wanted to do.  I want to share with you guys a pic that didn't fit with the story but it was funny nonetheless.  In this picture, I realized just how much Yusun reminds me of her townie grandmother, Claire Ursine.

Phyre -- Thank you so much for your suggestions.  I was having problems with figure out how to get a frieze up there but more columns might actually help.  I still wanted to be able to see for photo opportunities but I may have to work with it just for it to come out the way I want it to.

Cathy -- I think the arrival of Thyme plus a side project in the Steelverse will definately take the edge off.  The wheels have been turning for a few days now and it's going to be interesting to see how it all comes out.

Alexandria, Audren, GoGo, lilygirl & Chronic - Thank you for reading and commenting!  Yes I think I'll miss Shantel the most, too.

Juxt -- my secret weapon to house building is to use actual floor plans!  I have a website I visit all the time and basically I look at the plans and say 1 meter is 1 sim tile.  If meters aren't used, I play with it til it works.  I know that windows take up one tile as do sinks, toilets, and showers.  Tubs and loveseats are worth two!  Oh and graph paper.  I hand draw it out beforehand.  So technically building this house was one day out of game and three in game to complete!

I've actually noticed that all my games are starting to have some rendering issues so I may have to tune down my graphics settings until I can get my new computer.  I did have a lot of fun making that house and of course, now that I'm playing in it - it's even more fun.  I have babies in both games so it's hard to keep a balance between the Steels and the Grims but I'm doing my best!  Again thanks for all the comments and thanks to the ones who read and don't comment, too!  Happy Simming!

Welcome into this world Thyme Steel! Another boy for the Steel household (how could it be any different!). I'm sure he'll be loved and spoilt rotten by all the people in that house looking for a small, cute, pink pick-me-up. After all that death nothing's more therapeutic than new life!

Phyre -- Thank you so much for your suggestions.  I was having problems with figure out how to get a frieze up there but more columns might actually help.  I still wanted to be able to see for photo opportunities but I may have to work with it just for it to come out the way I want it to.

You will indeed have to start with adding more columns, that way you create a floor area above your pool. Then you just put the frieze on top of that (if that doesn't work directly you can add floor tiles first), and the roof on top of the frieze. Once you have that structure, you can delete as many columns as you want. You can keep as many (or as few) columns as you want, once that structure is finished the columns are no longer required (you can even let it float for all the game cares).
