Let the Hormones Begin!

So the last time I wrote something down involved the drama with Betty and Jessica.  Grandpa Sage had a chat with Betty but I don't think anyone in the house really knows how it turned out except Betty.  I overheard the old man telling Dad that it was all in her hands now.

On a more happy note, Yusun finally got that last promotion she wanted.  She's officially a Star News Anchor.  We get to watch my lovely wife every night after dinner.   Which is funny since she's always home by noon so she watches the news with us.

A day or two later brought the elder birthday of my little brother.  He was very excited to get to the cake and then it must have hit him about the time the sparkles started that he was getting old like the rest of us.  I think he finds joy in knowing that Betty is next.  I think he's still hurt more than the rest of us with Jessica's absence.  He calls her every day.

Thyme seems to be enjoying his childhood.  He doesn't seem to have very many endeavors towards a skill right now.  He seems to really enjoy fishing but part of me hopes that he'll work towards a more musical lifestyle.  I mean what man doesn't want his son to be a rock star? Of course, after having seen the way he drives the couch, I'm not sure I'm looking forward to his driving lessons.

What have I been doing?  Well I got a new chemistry set and put it down in the basement.  I've been tinkering with it and despite my logical thinking I seem to fail at mixing the chemicals more than succeeding.  At this point it's just something for me to do.  Especially since it's more dangerous to play in the time machine than I had originally thought.  Something I did one day changed Yusun's job when I arrived back to present day.  I may need to stick to the future.

The day finally came where we were celebrating Thyme's birthday again.  It's hard to believe that time has flown so fast.  Apparently, he was growing too fast for the magic to keep up as well because for a brief moment it seemed as though he was having some interesting growing pains.  As soon as he had grabbed his slice of cake, he noticed his reflection and ran off to get a haircut.  It's not nearly as bad as the hair I used to get.  I don't know why he's complaining.

(sea foam wouldn't be so bad if it didn't seem like it was a graphically glitched white)

Just like that my little boy was becoming a young man and like my father before me and his father before him I saw the changes that happen to a young man.  Thyme has started to notice his classmates.  In fact, we've caught word that they're holding a formal dance sometime soon.  Thyme seems to be having trouble working the nerve to ask someone.  Of course, I now realize why he's having trouble.  He can't make up his mind which one to ask!  I do believe my wife is having a field day with this at my son's expense.

Wow, those girls are pretty cute, no wonder Thyme is having trouble deciding!

The gumby style birthday photo always makes me laugh, they're all stretched out *tee-hee*

Number 51

Life with a teenager has us all on our toes these days.  It seems that he has a sixth sense of knowing when our guard will be down long enough to sneak in a prank.  It's hard to pull a prank and not get in trouble though.  He is the only child actually living in the house.  My beautiful wife has been given a plaque for achieving charisma greatness.  It is the highest honor she could achieve.

Against her wishes, Yusun also threw a party for Betty.  Although with all the attention she was receiving, I don't think Betty was too mad.  We invited only family and a select group of others showed up anyway.  Good thing the party crashers were all friends anyway. We all gathered around the cake as she blew out her candles for the last time.  Part of me thinks she was nervous but when the sparkles were done with her, she hid it well.   Grandpa Sage told her that she looked a lot like her Great Grandma Cornelia and that made her happy.

We had one guest that seemed to refuse to leave after the party was over.  It was one of our newest paparazzi stalkers.  A young vampire who didn't know how to pick up the plasma fruit from the outside counter.  Unfortunately, he is no longer with us though.  I picked up his grave to place in the graveyard later.

Over the weekend, Thyme and I spent some time together as I taught him to drive.   He liked Uncle Dill's ride so we had it repainted his favorite color, sea foam.  He learned the controls quickly and we rode around.  There were a few moments where I had to laugh at his being overly cautious while we were in town.

My son has also been asking over several of his female classmates.   The looks that Josephine Noland was giving him in the gym the other day makes me believe that they have chosen to go to the Prom with each other.  That and the jumping and squealing and repeated "yes"s that she was giving as she hugged him right after.

Of course, I think Josephine may eventually become more than just his prom date.  Dad caught them smooching for the first time not too long after she said yes to going to the prom.

Love wasn't just in the air for the young ones.   Grandpa Sage and Dad spent some time reminiscing about their wives as they played video games.  Betty reconnected with Quinn and they spent a couple of nights together.  Betty's advanced age seems to have mellowed her out a bit.

I also got to spend some time with Yusun.  We've been getting a lot of calls to dance at The Grind so we've spent several nights there.  For us, it doesn't matter if other people are there or not.  We just enjoy spending time together.   Now that I'm officially immortal, it feels like there is a clock that we never noticed before. At least for me, Yusun says I'm imagining things.   Dad says Yusun reminds him a lot of Mom.

Prom was in the middle of the week.  Josephine came to the house to meet with Thyme and the two of them left in a white limousine.  That night my son came home with a steady girlfriend and a crown.   Apparently, the two of them had a great time. We put his crown and prom picture in his museum room for him.

In other random news, I found something on my latest travels to the past.   It's a funny looking little thing but it's become a part of the family like the other gnomes.   I regularly find him worshiping at one of the sculptures or sleeping in front of the tv.  We let Thyme name him and that was probably a mistake as he chose to name him Cro.

Ricanote: I know it's been a long time since my last update.  I've been doing challenges and just dealing with life and weather and everything else.   It doesn't help that I've been having issues with the file lately.  I'm hoping to get more play time in soon and then maybe we can more updates! Yay!

Thyme's A-Changing

As I previously mentioned, Thyme has been having some rebellious streaks.  Towards the end of his teen cycle, he seemed to get one every other day.  Betty seemed to get the worst of it.  The day he made her hair a bright blue was the final straw for her.  She grounded him until he finished the laundry and did some house chores.

If Betty was smart, she would have taken away his guitar as well but at least he kept him from pulling anymore pranks.  He's actually really starting to get good at handling the instrument.  I got him his first composition from the bookstore for getting winning the guitar contest at school.  He learned it right away.  The record he got from Von Butterfinger went into his museum.

As for the rest of us, the night before Thyme's birthday we all enjoyed an elder's night out.  Grandpa Sage left early saying something about his garden. The rest of us stayed until the dance club closed before coming home.  Of course, it helped that most of us were paid to spend time there.

With the help of some sleeping elixirs I had in a chest, all of us who had stayed out late were up before Grandpa.  I'm fairly certain that's my new favorite thing that can be made with the chemistry set.  Not that I really need it now that I'm retired but Dad and Yusun appreciate being able to go out on a weeknight and not worry about being late for work the next day.

Mint has been getting a little bored of just sculpting and painting so he's taken to hopping into the time machine.  That morning he came back with a very interesting new outfit.  I only got to see him for a moment as he went into his room mumbling about making it more his style.   Now he wears the new version everywhere.  I told Yusun I didn't want to go out with him in public and she threatened to super glue one just like it onto my body.   I really wouldn't put it past her.

Betty spent the morning trying to fix the hot tub that we broke two days ago.  Every time she got partially through the repair, she was electrocuted.  Yusun offered to call a repairman but she refused.  Each time she became singed, she just ran to take a shower and then tried again.

Before the fourth try, she finally thought to mop up the puddles before sticking the screwdriver into the water.  And by that afternoon, we were all relaxing in the now unbreakable hot tub.  Thyme came over and started playing his guitar.  I think he was trying to get a few of us out of the hot tub so he could jump in.

None of us fell for his ploy so when the first guests started to arrive to the party.  Thyme gave up his playing to greet his girlfriend and get one more smooch in before it became illegal and then stepped up to the cake.  He was excited when the birthday magic took over.  At least until he got a good look at his hair after it was done with him.  [There was a minor traffic jam coming from the hot tub.]

[Here's a shot of Thyme with some makeup and a haircut like Alex Grim.  I'm thinking Crumplebottom genes are some of the strongest genes in Sunset Valley.]

After the party, Thyme went down to the theatre to sign up for the music career.  He made it his life's wish to become a rock star.  He also had a few friends down at the theatre that helped him put together a new look.  I'm not entirely certain I approve of it. But as my beautiful bride told me - It is not my place to approve of his wardrobe. My place is to sit down somewhere and wonder where the heck I did wrong.  Now while I know I did nothing wrong.  It still gives me a good chuckle every time I see her face as she said those words to me.  Let my son do what he wants.  He even gave up his favorite color because as his friends said - what respectable rock star wears sea foam.

[Ricanote: I really did have difficulties trying to put together a look for him using sea foam as a base so I decided to go with something different.  It took me a while to figure out what I wanted for him.   I made a picture for my sister of 9 different hair colors and two different hairstyles and made my four year old nephew choose which one he liked.  So the hairstyle and coloring was all him saying which picture he wanted LOL

@AnnBeiFong - I got him like I said in the update by traveling to the past using the time machine]

Happy Birthday Thyme! I love his look, gives me a bit of a scare! He really does look cool! Poor Betty, first being pranked on and then having to repair the hot tub. You weren't trying to kill her were you? Great update!

Of course I wasn't trying to kill her!  Betty has the second highest handiness (level 8 ) in the house as I'm trying to not max it out for Coriander just in case something goes wrong and I have to switch the supermax I'm aiming for on a future generation.  Unfortunately I messed up a bit for Thyme  - his supermax is supposed to be guitar so I had him use the xylophone (or as Thomas calls it - the music toy that cannot be spelled) and then I sent him to music club.  Well since I have late night that means thyme got 3 points in bass, drums, piano and guitar just from the xylophone.  Then he went on a science facility field trip and got points in fishing and gardening (big no no) so there is a very large possibility that with so many points in other skills that guitar will never be supermaxed.  So I gave Thyme the 5th trait of Angler.  I've been using fish tanks to get deathfish for ambrosia when the replicator runs out.  I figure I should have enough time to get the 350 fish if there is absolutely no luck with the guitar star challenge but I'm still hopeful. :(

Thanks for reading everyone.  I'm at a part in the file where I want my Steels to travel once again but I haven't had them do that since before Thyme was born and before Generations was installed.  There has been a giant struggle with it where I'm losing my UI and no Sims are appearing when I arrive at my destination.  I'm looking for a lot of explanations as to why this might be but it doesn't mean it's a game breaker.  I just hoped that since the Steels had traveled previously (visa level 3 in all three locations for Pepper) that nothing would be a problem in the future.  This game loves to prove me wrong.

More updates to come after I've had a little time to spend.  Jessica is coming home!

Yeah, I've never been able to super max an instrument, and Sashyna has been playing the drums for 8 generations.  Then again, I always have points in more than one skill, so that's probably why I have no luck.  Hopefully you have better luck than I did, but I'm glad you have a backup plan, because I think you're going to need it.
