Cheats? Yes, there are testingcheats!
« on: March 30, 2011, 03:33:20 PM »
I'm assuming you can call up the usual cheats console but once there, what can you have?  Anyone tried any of the old standards?  (goes off to see if buydebug works)
What?  Grannies can't play games?

You can bring up the console the usual way and type help to get a short list of cheats.

I can verify that Kaching works and I assume any of the ones from that list work.  The net lists some other ones like setQP and setKP but those dont' seem to work so far.

Edit
I seem to remember another thread somewhere around here that goes into more detail about them.

Here they are. You can confirm that is about all by issuing the help command. They really watered down cheating. I wish there was some way to boost hero levels or ignore quests. Right now that would be really helpful to me.

Spoke too soon.

Yep.  I didn't do the "help" request just tried the old stand by ones.  Of that list I got motherlode and kaching.  Didn't try family funds though.  No buydebug.  (pouts)  No "testingcheats".  Next for me is to actually type in help to see what IS available.  Not much I'm afraid but I usually play without cheats anyway.

Testing Cheats are now up. Be careful with this one. I gave instructions on making the file edit. Back up your saves so you don't mess something up. Tinkering with non-Hero Sims' Professions probably isn't a good idea.

Someone in my topic on the official forum asked me why I wasn't including them. Cuz I ...duh.. dunno at the time! I'm glad I looked into it. This is going to help me immensely with the Traits guide!  8)

OMG Carl that is awesome and kind of scary.  Just read your how to.  Now I see it, I think I'm going to avoid it.  I think it would really remove a lot of the fun of this game.  Note:  this idea can change at any sign of frustration/anger/bashing head with keyboard or other uncontrolled behavior.

Right. These could really suck a lot of fun out of Medieval. I think disabling responsibilties would remove the aspect of juggling you need to do. It'd be fun for playing around, but by the time you're done you probably won't want to play any more. TSM is NOT TS3 after all :P

It appears you can't cheat with a Mac  :(

There's nothing in the Applications folder except the Readme and the Game .ini and uninstall files, and the Documents folder doesn't have anything resembling Command.ini   There's an Options.ini file, which I could open and read in Notepad, but that mainly seems to relate to items from the Control Panel and Lessons.

I guess I'll just have to play a vanilla game, with the occasional 'kaching' if really needed.

Thank you so much Carl for discovering the Testing Cheats! I hate it when my Queen's hunger bar goes down and the quest meter goes down too. Adding that she has Licentious which results in an awful -20 buff, it's a real disaster! No more hunger and energy loss for my heroes! ;D

Location of Commands.ini on a Mac
« Reply #12 on: April 03, 2011, 03:15:10 PM »
You need to find the application (in your Application folder) use right click to "Show Content" of the package and then navigate to:

/Applications/The\ Sims\ Medieval.localized/The\ Sims\ Medieval.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program\ Files/Electronic\ Arts/The\ Sims\ Medieval/GameData/Shared/NonPackaged/Ini/Commands.ini

Wowser - once there you can edit the file - unlike with the PC version you have read/write permissions per default (at least for the user who installed the game or has admin privileges) - with Textedit or any other editor.

I just realized that after editing the file, you don't need to type 'testingcheatsenabled true' in the cheat console, that's already enabled. Wow I feel like a complete idiot after trying to enable that way (and failing) a whole hour. :P After typing 'help', I realized everything.

No wonder I couldn't find it!!  Thank you!

I assume I just change TestingCheatsEnabled from 0 to 1.
Have you tried it?  Is it safe to use?
