Improved Story Progression
« on: January 02, 2010, 12:37:27 AM »
I've noticed a huge improvement in story progression in the last few days.  My town has all kinds of new people coming to live and the original townies are moving to different houses quite often.  Even the offspring of my own current family doesn't stay in the house where I put them.  I think one of them might even be homeless now because I absolutely cannot find where he and his family live.  I've followed him a few times after he leaves the main house, but he disappears into empty houses or on the beach.  I'm not complaining!  It's just very odd after having almost no story progression all this time.  Has anyone else noticed this?

I haven't checked where people live but I've definitely noticed a lot of new families in town lately.

In the week I've been playing, I've noticed at least two marriages, although I've only discovered one birth outside of my own Sim.

Most of the story progression has had Sims move in or out of town which is a bit disappointing.  I was hoping to see multiple generations of the families that were there to start with, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.  There also doesn't seem to be much promotion happening with other Sims, even ones who are ambitious or workaholics.

I'm pretty hopeful that EA will continue to refine this with future patches though, and certainly it's a huge improvement on Sims 2!

I don't know if this is entirely related but has there always been tourists coming to Sunset Valley? Since WA came out I mean.
This is the first I've ever seen:

I really like story progression since sims 3 came out.  In my game there wasn't a problem after the original patch which fixed spontaneous spawning of babies.  Now I'm seeing sims with last names I've never seen before which I think is pretty cool.  I was very surprised at seeing one of the old time townie families, Wan-Goddard move out of town...that was weird. :-\

Sims get married and have babies all on their own without any interference from me.  I just wish they would get promoted in their jobs.  It's kinda weird seeing an elder who is still a bedpan cleaner.  :P

I'm in two minds about story progression, I like how the other people in town come and go and age, but I was not impressed when I switched households a few weeks ago and found over the course of three day, three of my single sims had married! Granted, one had married his sweetheart, who I had intended him to marry, but of the other two, one was going to be a single man most of his life. For this reason, I use Awsome mod and make the households I play sacred so that when I switch between families, I don't find one of them has moved out of town!

It's always been risky to change the households you're playing.  The ones you aren't playing will continue their lives without you.  Also, we always advise caution when using third party download modifications.  They have been known to cause a lot of trouble with the game.  The patches and updates that Electronic Arts publishes often are not compatible with third party downloads.

I understand the risks involved with third party downloads, (mmm maybe my latest forum topic shoud be revised with a caution) but some do work quite well and make life a little easier.

I agree. It's kind of boring to turn it off so nothing is happening but then you turn it on and the wrong things will happen! ::) :D

I've NEVER liked the story progression thingo... Mostly cause I love playing more than one family, and I hate going back to a previously family and discovering that they're all pregnant and homeless...

I got a question though that someone might be able to answer...

Story mode allows sims to reproduce, yeah, and having aging enabled allows the sim population to keep in check...

What is the long long long long long loooong term result of leaving story mode on, and aging off???

Breeding + Immortality sounds... Crowded >.>

I think that the game has a max and min amount of Sims so only your Sims will keep reproducing, successfully.

Maybe the game will kill them off through starvation, drowning or fire!

Not really because the kids can't grow up. That means they can't move out or have kids of their own so the families can't multiply.

I've played with story progression on and aging off for a while now. I haven't been paying really close attention to this but I don't think there are a lot of new babies, if any.
Sim families will move out and others move in, they move houses and sometimes Sims die from accidents.

Agree with Bshag: In ambitions my sim's firefighter co-worked have never promoted. That's because that way there is no competition to get the top spot in the career, which is sad since I would like that.
