Tip: Watch the color of a hero's action.
« on: March 29, 2011, 01:25:33 PM »
I had not noticed at first but after seeing a mention in other threads, I began watching the color of the hero specific actions. My peteran priest has the convert action. Conversions are almost certain when the action is green but may fail if the action is yellow. The forge action on my blacksmith is not colored but the items displayed in the "forge window" have different color back grounds to indicate difficulty.

I have not tried all of the heroes and was not paying attention on my first few heroes but my guess is that each hero probably has similar color hints for their hero actions.

I was really confused by the blacksmith's forging options at first.  I was wondering why they were green and yellow, then I realized that they corresponded with the same colors and chances of success as normal duty/quest-related options.  I felt way dumb that it took me so long to figure that out.   ;)

I have noticed it too and it really is a good thing to keep an eye out for.  I don't ever pick the interaction unless it is green and they have a high chance of accomplishing whatever they are doing. :)
Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?

I have also noticed that there are some quests where the action will never been green but the best you can hope for is Yellow.  Specifically the quest to forge a new kingdom at the end of a completed ambition kingdom.

Some items that are yellow for the blacksmith/physician/wizard/spy, I wonder if it's not just because there is a chance they won't succeed but that also it will give more xp. (because a blacksmith pretty much always makes the item- never had it fail/never seen it red)  My background comes from WoW when crafting. Generally when you have recipes, green means you are most likely not going to skillup, yellow means you might and orange/red means you definately are.  Sims is a hybrid so that's why I brought up the more xp for making an item.

Yellow is definitely a maybe you will, maybe you won't thing and your chance of success depends on your hero's moodlets/buffs.  If he/she is not totally happy the chances of failure increase.  Failed at making a yellow item yesterday and noticed he had whale rage at the time.  It just popped in mid-crafting.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

Well I usually have my blacksmiths be unkempt, good-cooking gluttons so I just stop mid item to feed him instead of failing the craft.  And I never go above speed 2 when making something with my smithy.  It just ticks me off I still only get 35 Simoles for the legendary version of that crude longsword.

XP quantity based upon difficulty? I had not noticed before but I shall watch for it now.

I too noticed that focus affects difficulty. For example, if the peteran priest is well focused he seems to have more "green" conversion opportunities. For the few "yellow" conversion opportunities, a little time spent befriending the prospect seems to change the "yellow" conversion to "green".

I've also noticed if a task is colored and you hover over it, it tells you whether there's a high  (green), medium (yellow), or low (red) chance of the task succeeding.

Focus is critical to success in all endeavours, from catching fish and picking wildflowers to hunting a great bear. Though I find it interesting that some "yellow" interactions seem more likely to fail than others. For example, a yellow tag on "Hunt the great bear" rarely seems to fail with my heroes, while my poor spy has been sent to the stocks more times than I can count by having a yellow tag when she's trying to break someone out of the stocks.

Some actions don't have a consequence for failing, and you can try again. Picking wildflowers is one such action, and the good thing is that once you do succeed, you then get a nice buff that helps increase your focus, and thus your chances of succeeding at whatever it is you're trying to do.

My heros sometimes botch gathering herbs, mining, drawing water from the well or even just picking wild flowers when the interaction is yellow.  They may still do the interaction, but only receive part of what they should receive such as one bucket of water instead of three.

Also my heros may still hunt and collect meat, but they are usually hurt in the process.

Anyone know how to make a level 10 blacksmith make Doomplate and not fail at it? He has full needs and focus, but still fails. He makes to many ''mistakes''. When you make mistakes the quality goes down, and if it get's to low it fails ???. Thanks for letting me know about my errors Schipperke and sorry about them I normally try to make it as clear as possible. ;D
We are of peace, always but this is war.
We are of peace, always.
We'll help build a resistance. We have to fight.

When all you've ever loved has been stolen from you, sometimes all you have left is revenge.
For the truly wronged, satisfaction can be found in one of two places,  absolute forgiveness or mortal vindication. This is not a story about forgiveness. When deception cuts this deep, someone has to pay.

Simslover, you'd probably get more of a response to your question if it made sense.  Please modify your post so it is correct English. Thanks for your cooperation.

If you control the manufacture, clicking on the forge and then the anvil and monitoring the temperatures closely, you get a far better result than letting the game do it.  You will also do a lot better too if you upgrade your blacksmith's hammer.
