Tool hand glitch
« on: March 29, 2011, 10:51:03 AM »
I've search all over the forum to see if I could find a solution. It all started when my sims refused to wash the plates. They would pick up the plate and put it back on the counter. So I hired a maid to see if they would clean the dishes but they did the same thing!

I drag the plates myself into the dishwasher myself and it seem to work. However when I went to drag another plate, the hand tool kept acting as if it was holding something but it wasn't. I tried everything for it to go away. I restarted the game without saving it, switched households, and even started a new game.

I don't know what to do. When I started the new game it was fine until I dragged something and the hand will stay. Now I can't drag anything else or use anything in my inventory.

Does anyone know how to make the hand tool go away?

This has happened to me before, but only happened a few times.  But I discovered that switching to buy or build mode made the hand go away for me.

And it does it in every game, even when you start a new one?

I did a bit of research, and it looks like this was a common bug.  However, most of what I saw was one to two years old.  Is your game fully patched and up to date?

Possible causes I saw mentioned were very full sim inventories, bookcases with a lot of books, and houses with a lot of items.  The theory was that all of these items pushed the game beyond the computer's capabilities to run it, which caused the hand tool to freeze up.  For some players, deleting items in the house would fix it.  For others, it didn't because they say that there weren't a lot of items in the house to begin with.

Another issue I saw mentioned a lot was a mod related bug.  If you're using mods, I'd suggest seeing if there's an updated version or removing it altogether to see if that fixes the problem.

Other than that, I can't be of much more help I'm afraid.  But there might be someone else who knows a bit more about it than I do.

My game is updated and there's not alot of items in my house. Its a pretty small house. In my legacy game, my house is pretty big and I'm sure there's alot books in the bookcase since I'm on the 7th generation. I haven't encountered that problem in that game. I'm afraid to open that game in case the glitch infects that game too. Thanks for the advice though. I'll continue to research to see if I find any solution to this problem.
