Sims Medieval Category Added
« on: March 29, 2011, 02:17:03 AM »
We've expanded the forum to offer a Sims Medieval category. I will begin the process of moving all Medieval posts to the new category immediately. Your topics should not be hard to find.

This decision was made for various reasons:

I would have been forced to make the painful decision to nuke the temporary Medieval board for the time constraint of figuring out how to move all those posts to another domain. We lost nothing in the transition.

It'll be easy to back up both at once.

Members do not need to maintain separate accounts to use both Forums

Security is already at its best here, so that will be carried over to the Medieval category

It will mean no more work for moderators due to spam attacks, especially those of us who would be policing both. If spammers come to the forum, they're going to hit anywhere and that extra category will not increase the likelihood of this happening. Growth will bring more nasty spammers here, but growth is inevitable anyway

If you are logged in and collapse a board, the system should remember what you have collapsed upon logging the next day. This means members who are interested in TS3 and not Medieval can collapse that category, or vice versa. Announcements are not collapsible and in their own category. This will be an umbrella board for news pertaining to any of our Sims sites and hosts the rules which apply universally.

We will eventually switch to a new domain, but that is in the near future so don't bother even trying it yet. It will not affect any posts and everything will work exactly the same, but the system will automatically redirect you when the time comes. I'll let you know. Soon enough, we'll appear as a top result in google for Sims Medieval Forum, so the TS3 domain name should not turn them off. This paves a path for the future in which we'll one day have a Sims 4 board on this established forum.

At this time, we're not considering a Stories board for Medieval. The game is not nearly as open for storytelling as The Sims 3, and we feel that demand for that would be quite low.

Thank you for all of your support. I've never been more excited about the future of this community.

All done with the move. It won't be hard to hunt down your topics. I didn't want a board stuffed with redirects. Apologies for the abrupt transition  ;)

Awesome job Carl.  Your right, no matter what you do on here, there will always be spammers.  I only see bigger and better things for this site and am looking forward to being a part of it. :)

This is great, Carl.  I was under the impression that the Medieval Forum was going to be a separate entity, but I really like the way you've arranged it.  It makes it very convenient for us to go back and forth between Sims 3 and Medieval.

I'd also like to say thank you. I'm so pleased that you decided that there were strong enough reasons to add The Sims Medieval to your existing The Sims 3 Forum, rather than creating a whole new forum.  From a users point of view, it is great not to have to log into two places, this becomes a 'one stop shop' and it means that I can spot all the familiar names, whichever Sims game they happen to be chatting about.  Thanks again.

You're welcome guys. Everyone seems to like the idea. Pam actually had a big hand in that. She happened to ask me exactly what I was planning to do and we realized that the collapsible categories would be perfect for this.  Go collapsible categories! :D

Can't wait to get you the other 100 pages of work! It's really helpful how many people are responding to my questions. It's going to save me a ton of time. I figure if I need something, chances are someone knows how it works!  8)
