Conquering Territories

How do you conquer other territories? I read somewhere it has something to do with your quest points and your renown… Any ideas? Specific strategies?

At a certain amount of renown other territories open up for you to "purchase".  What this means is you go to your territorial map in kingdom mode and in order to make them allies you have to buy their loyalty for RP.  5 for the first one and 10 for all the ones after that.  Then in order to visit them and use them for trade, you have to actually do the quest you received for allying them. All territory quests cost 3 QP each.

That's exactly right. What I'm waiting for is the relationship bar to go down to see at what point you lose the bonuses they provide. I assume losing all green and returning to a neutral state causes it to go.

Do you know how high your renown points need to be in order to even get to a point where you can ally with territories?

I think it's 50 or 60? It jumps again at around 150-200.

Something like Carl said.  I did three quests and had 60 renown so it doesn't take long for the first three and you don't need renown at all for the two you get from the Village Shoppe.


Also once you start getting near neutral, they actually will rebel and go into the negative. I don't know if you actually lose the bonus or not though.

So that's how you get other territories.   Good to know.  I took the gain territory type of ambition and had no Idea how to do it.   Thanks a lot for the info guys.   Much appreciated.

I'm barely even able to hang on to the two territories that I started out with.  They have steadily declined since I started the game and I can't figure out how to increase their loyalty.  I thought maybe using the ship to trade with them would work, but there were no options when I click on the ship.  Does it have to be a specific Hero to trade goods.  What am I missing here?

I believe only the Merchant can trade goods.  But I don't think that will affect relations.  You need to do things like pass favorable edicts and send patrols (via forest, village shoppe, or ship).  Actually I'm not sure about the ship.  I tried doing that but I don't know if it worked because it didn't give me an option on where to send the patrol.

Is patrol the right word?  I'm looking at it and wow it just looks wrong.  Think I got too hot today...

If memory serves me, it is the heroes with combat occupations that are able to patrol. The first to provinces can be patrolled via the forest and village. I believe that the ship is used to patrol the other provinces once they are allied with your kingdom.

Does anyone know how to get an inactive combat hero (Knight, Monarch, etc.) to patrol while questing with noncombat heroes?

Tredony is now in rebellion.  I still haven't figured out a way to increase loyalty with Tredony and Crafthole.  The queen was not able to use the ship to trade.  I've tried passing edicts every day, but the ones that win always seem to benefit the village or the builders.  I haven't figured out how to influence the voters to vote for my edict.

Patrolling to a province and passing edicts are both methods of influencing provincial loyalty. I have not played with a Merchant so I am uncertain about the effectiveness of trade.

Here is my method for passing "failing" edicts. Since this task is time sensitive, liberal use of the pause button is required.

01. Propose an edict (P)
02. Monitor edict support (P) *window opens* (P)
03. Decide which edict to support.
      If all the provinces are loyal then you can vote for the most popular for an easy and cheap victory. If you wish to bolster a specific province then look for the provincial leader. The leader is probably supporting an edict that is favorable to them.
Don't want to chance supporting the wrong edict? Trade time for certainty by selecting and reading each edict while noting the loyalty changes that result.

Ready to influence the vote?

04. Add a benefit for a group that is not already voting for the edict.
      Each benefit added takes about 30 Sim minutes and §50 so you can only add two or three benefits before it is time to vote.
05. Call for the vote (optional).
06. Vote. Good luck!

Edicts and patrols may only influence loyal provinces. I do not know for certain but once a province is in rebellion it may have to be conquered with RP via the map in kingdom mode.

Just a note, Pam. Last time I tried this I proposed an Edict to benefit Tredony. When I hit Monitor Edict Support, it showed everyone voting for the edict that would benefit them (Tredony for the one I proposed, Crafthole was abstaining, my Builder for the one benefiting him, and my Adviser voting for the village one). I was still guaranteed a win but thought how can I get my Builder and Adviser to vote my way? So I added a benefit for the Builder or the Village, I can't remember. When I rechecked Edict Support, everyone except my Adviser (including the guy from Tredony) was abstaining from the vote! What the heck?! Well, I called the Edict to vote anyway and voted for the one I proposed. It won 4 votes to 1! Everyone except the Crafthole guy voted for it. Needless to say, I still don't know how this edict thing works!

I've also found that Patrolling the Path from the Village Shoppe increases loyalty from the land south of your kingdom (Crafthole?) I haven't tried Patrolling the Path from the Woods but I'm assuming it would increase loyalty from Tredony. I also haven't tried Patrolling via the ship so I have no idea what that does.

You could add a benefit to the vote but it is a lot more easier if you have a level 10 monarch then you will get 3 votes only from him/her  and then the vote will surely pass, at least it always passed for me also if you have the monarch at level 5 then you will get 2 votes from him/her for those of you who didn't know.  :)

Yes, it's Tredony and I assume once you've annexed it the path from the woods will also have a patrol to other places that touch on the woods.  Patrolling via ship also works as long as you have an option to "patrol to..."  as opposed to just "patrol the high seas".  Patrol the high seas sometimes gives you a sea adventure, (meet a mermaid, etc.), but does not increase loyalty.

To keep your territories loyal set up a routine you never fail at.  Each day whoever is able to patrol, (depends on the character being played, not all can patrol), goes to each place and patrols.  If there are so many it would take a tremendous amount of time, I patrol the ones most in need or alternate which ones get patrolled.    Right now I have three places.  After having married the heir to Effonmont the loyalty bar was set at full, so I didn't bother patrolling there. After a few Sim days I checked the loyalty status, and although they are happily married, the bar had crept toward the negative so I patrolled there a couple of times just so it didn't slip far.
