Who's your Favourite Hero?
« on: March 28, 2011, 01:22:45 PM »
Now that we've been playing this game for a few days, I wonder if anyone has preferences for which hero you like to play - or maybe a hero you don't like to play.  I think my favourite is the wizard because of all the interesting things they can do.  I also like the blacksmith, although I'm not really sure why - forging things is rather fiddly work, always having to make sure the item is the proper temperature.

The two heroes I've played least are the jacoban priest and the spy, so I don't know much about them yet.

I've actually not played either priest much and not entirely certain I like what I have done.  I have to say I'm not fond of the merchant but I would probably need more time.   I love my wizard/physician/smithy/knight.  I have no idea why I can't choose between them.  I guess it depends on my mood really.  My knight and physician are one of the first ones I place in my kingdom so that's probably why I like them so much.  Knight to get rid of bandits and a physician to handle the colds my villagers keep giving me!

I like playing the blacksmith, physician, and Peteran priest.  It gets tedious to have to go get supplies all the time, but I like forging because it needs so much attention (as does surgery, although to a lesser extent), and I like the priest because... okay I'm not sure why.  I guess because they have more things they can do (give sermon, evangelize, study/write with the watcher, convert and pray with people, bless the well).  The spy, to me, seemed hard to level up, and the merchant -- let's not even go there!!!  I did get a little frustrated with the wizard, I think because mine had the hubris FF and that one is a -10 or -40 buff a lot of the time that I can't seem to ever get rid of.

I played the spy to level 10 and that is my most favorite.  She had some really neat quests.  After I finished the game, she is now monarch, level 10.  I guess it carried over because I had saved her.  Don't have to worry about her winning sword fights or getting eaten by the monster.  She had her fatal flaw changed to chivalrous and she most definitely is.  I like it when you tell her to eavesdrop and if you get close enough to a sim, their facial expressions are a hoot. :)
Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?

I've only played the Monarch, Physician, Jacoban Priest and Merchant and so far my favourite is the Jacoban Priest. I'm so looking forward to the Wizard and Spy! And I have a Knight in waiting, there just weren't any Quests that I could choose her for when I made her  :(

My wizard is my favorite sim, followed closely by my knight, blacksmith, and physician.

I love the crafting and all the different spells that the wizard gets - teleportation at level 10 is AWESOME!  The last quest I did teamed up my wizard and my blacksmith which was epic - my wizard did all the collecting so that my blacksmith could pump out weapons and armor for the rest of my heroes.

My knight is excellent at hunting and I like to duel with him.  He just picked up the herculean legendary trait so I can't wait to kick some butt with him.  I enjoy my physician because I love watching her interactions with patients.  My real life background is in medicine so I feel an affinity for her.

I found my monarch and Peteran priest to be a bit boring - althought the priest is lascivious and married to the wizard, so that adds some interest.  I think there are aspects of my monarch that I need to explore more (like edicts) because my relationship with Tredonia and Crafthole has gone downhill and I must be doing something wrong.

I have only done 1 quest with my spy.  I think I'll like her if I play her more.  Her traits (evil, cruel, and something else not so nice) make her hard for me to really like, but I think she has some cool abilities like lockpicking and pick-pocketing.  Plus I dressed her up as a medieval dominatrix, so she's fun to look at.

I haven't played my Jacoban priest, bard, or merchant yet, so no thoughts one way or the other about them.

My least favorite is my bard.  Want to smack her for lying and stealing other's works!  My favorites are all the rest, although I haven't played the Jacoban, wizard, physician or spy yet.  I want to do another do over and see if I can play each character better, more efficiently, with more fun.  I really think the possibilities are darned near endless.

I think there are aspects of my monarch that I need to explore more (like edicts) because my relationship with Tredonia and Crafthole has gone downhill and I must be doing something wrong.

If you click on the forest sign, the village sign and the boat they all have patrol road/seaway to... on them.  If you choose that option you can patrol to the other territories which raises your reputation a little bit.  The other way to raise it is via the edicts but if I have a spy/knight/monarch in my "party" and they're not part of the main questline I just send them to work rep up with whoever.   The ship does the four territories to the north - Effenmount, Gastrobury, Advorton & Ticktop.   The Village Road does Crafthole and Aarbyville.  The Forest Road does Tredony, Yacothia, Snordwich and Burdley.

I am very fond of the blacksmith and the physician - well, at the moment I REALLY like the physician - my blacksmith is level 10 and has become a tad boring. You can level the physician really fast by using the ... let's call it operating table. You usually have 3 - 4 people you can work on, the work is done in a matter of minutes (once you have the hang of how many leeches are needed)  and you get money and quite a bit of experience by helping them. Lot's of free time to gather herbs, go fishing, crafting salves and such.

The quest thread so far, though, has been funny but a bit lame compared to the thrill and drama of some other professions.

At the moment I rather like my blacksmith the best, but I can hardly wait to play Rincewind my wizard.  Yes, I made him a bumbler just like Rincewind!  He's very smart but forgetful.  I think he's going to be fun.  I love playing my monarch as well. I thought I'd really like my knight but she's kind of dull.  I still dislike my bard.  I think she requires a do over or something.  Next try I will do a better bard and see if I grow any fonder of her.

You could just throw her into the pit, or have her jump in herself!  I don't know what the chances of her not making it back out alive are, I had my blacksmith jump in for some quick XP but alas - he died instead.  But my knight fared just fine...  ;)

I like my monarch best.  He seems easiest to play and I love his mannerisms.  I always seem to have more time with him to let him wander around, picking flowers and interacting with his subjects.  I found the doctor and witch very difficult at first as I didn't place them until later in the game and had items to craft and no idea how to get the ingredients.  Once I got used to them, I loved playing them too.  I haven't tried the merchant except once in a quest that I didn't save.  I didn't get the opportunity to do another one with her.  The Bard seemed very easy.  It helped that he was well liked by a lot of people.  I really feel that I have only just scratched the surface with all of the characters and will probably change my mind as I complete more quests and get to know them all a little better.

So far my favorites are a lvl 10 spy-master, with Doomsword. He just cant be beaten. Also love the spies because they can hunt/patrol, so alot more chances for random events and therefore mystical metal fragments.
And second favorite is blacksmith, because, well, (s)hes the only one who can fashion the metal fragments.

Merchant for me. I'm a sucker for making lots of money in games and he's the bling bling Hero for that. But, he's also the Hero you can level the fastest. I have not played them all, but of all the ones I've played he's very fast leveling — 150 XP per sale. That's golden.

So far it is the Monarch, Wizard and Blacksmith for me. I find the Physician too hard to make money with, the Bard and Spy I have not really played and the Peteran Priest is a bit tedious with a family of 4 cramped into that tiny room, he just gets involved in a lot of my Quests and is my highest ranker! I have yet to play the Merchant or the Jacoban Priest.
