When you have the negative buff from a whale ate my parents, just talk to another sim and use the interaction under the trait menu (share whale problem if I remember correctly). You will then get a positive buff instead

I gave my first blacksmith the Insecure fatal flaw.  It was a problem at first; she always needed reassurance but other people weren't always very reassuring and she'd wind up with a negative buff from her socializing.  Then it occurred to me to marry her off to the bard and that pretty much solved the problem.  She rarely gets that insecure buff and when she does, a few minutes with hubby puts her in a very good mood.  I wish some of the other fatal flaws were as easy.

There are a lot of fatal flaws I haven't tried yet.  I'm wondering what experience other people have had with Cruel, Cursed, Fool, Misanthrope and Morose.  Have you found ways of dealing with those ones?

My monarch has the hubris FF and it rarely affects her and only 1 stack at a time when it does.  I usually am able to keep her so well buffed that the hubris debuff is just a blip on the radar.  I can see how it would be problem for a hero who has to do the same task 5 times in a row as part of their responsibilities.

My wizard had the fool FF and it rarely, if ever, affected her.  They get a befuddled debuff from going to the bookshelf and selecting 'Read' - although if I directed her to read a particular book she wouldn't get befuddled.  Also, doing research occasionally led to a -10 debuff.

My major redo would be to give my wizard the earthy trait.  She is always out collecting and it would have been nice to get a buff for doing so.  This trait would also work well on a physician since they have to go collect herbs quite often.

My physician is cursed and I haven't found any way to deal with it yet.  She will randomly wake up with a black cloud of flies over her head and a debuff that lasts the whole day (like lucky/unlucky in TS3).  I don't recall how big the debuff is, but I haven't had any problem keeping her focus maxed out in spite of it.

My least favorite FF so far is bloodthirsty.  I gave it to my blacksmith and he wants to go out and get into fights a couple of times a day because of it.  The debuff from not fighting isn't too bad, maybe -10 or so.  The problem is, if he ends up in a fistfight and loses he ends up with several big debuffs that are hard to recover from.  If he wins then he gets some nice buffs - but in the end I've just stopped him from fighting because it's easier to deal with that debuff than the whole lot of them if he loses.

My spy has the cruel FF and it isn't too bad.  When she gets the debuff I just have her walk up to someone and argue once.  She gets a nice buff and then apologizes so she doesn't have a bunch of enemies.  It does make it harder to make friends, but she's a bad egg and not too likeable anyhow (evil and some other unpleasant trait).

For the people who are doing Whale Ate my parents trait,  you can buy the boat and harpoon at the village shoppe and go whale  hunting.  If you're sucessful you get a handful of both types of whale meat.  The whale stew - large gives a 1 to 2 day food buff and I think if you're the orphan by whale hero, the buff is even more awesome for you.  You have to buy a new harpoon every time you successfully hunt but it's such a quick thing to do.  Plus they get buffs for defeating the whale as well.

I gave my new wizard the Excitable trait.  It seems to keep him in a very good mood most of the time.  Even though he meditates to recharge his energy and  never gets the well-rested buff, his focus is always very high.

I think the well rested buff is actually from using a bed not just getting a full energy bar that's why wizards don't see it.

Yes, I think you're right, Ricalynn.  I'll probably buy the wizard a bed eventually so he can get the well-rested buff, but it was nice not needing to spend money on a bed right at the beginning.

I just upgrade the monarch's bed and give a single in his room as soon as possible and have everyone sleep at the castle with the best bed! Especially since a spell you get for the wizard at level 10 is teleport!

edit: the single bed is usually used by children of the monarch/ royal advisor/servant/ and of course me

The first thing I do for my heroes is replace their bed with the best one they can afford.  It seems like such a waste for them to be sleeping when I could be telling them different things to do!

I haven't got the game yet (Thursday!) I was wondering about how you make your Characters though, is it similar to the Sims 3 CAS? Everyone also seems to be talking about the same sort of traits and FF's so is there a limited choice? I also heard the word 'Elves' somewhere I think, if there are can you make one in CAS?

There are a very limited number of traits compared to TS3 and if you want, I can PM you the list so you can see it.   You do create your characters in a CAS like TS3 but unfortunately without as many options.  You only get to choose one set of clothes (your profession clothes) and the recoloring is somewhat limited as well.  The Elves thing is basically in CAS you make their ears pointed and you can give them very pale skin/hair/clothes to go with the motif.

My observations on Traits and FFs:

I gave my Monarch Hubris which started out making a big problem as I had him collecting all the time so that I ocudl make seed porridge.  Whe nI came back to him yesterday I didnt' do any collecting and Hubris showed up a lot less

I gave my Physician Insecure which was a pain at first but afte getting her some freinds it seemed to vanish and never return.  She also has the Earthy trait which is a very nice buff when out collecting leeches and herbs.

My Jacoban preist I gave the Cruel flaw which turned out to be a really really bad idea as he ended up angering a lot of people.  Might work better if one chose one or tow people in particular for the mto tkae out their pent up anger on.  It'd be a fine flaw for a hero who relied less on interactions with others like maybe a knight or a wizard.

I've noticed that Religion seems to have an occasional positive or negative buff effect.  Most of my sims so far have remained Agnostic and will sometimes get moodlet due to lack of faith.  I assume this isn't connected to certain traits but It coudl be I don't know.

Adventurous talk about adventures interaction is apparently a romantic interaction as my knight got a negative reacton from an engaged sim.  I guess it's like "I'm a firefighter" in late night.

Has anyone noticed if Eloquent provides any form of passive benefits to socialization?

My least favorite is weak constitution.  That is what my spy had when I first started the game.  I didn't know why she kept throwing up every time she ate and then when I moused over the trait, that is when I found out why.  It is not very pleasant, that is for sure, lol. :)

Samoht, there is a green skinned, green haired Elven maiden in CAS and she breeds true with hair color!  My Elf monarch has a green haired son.  Initially you only choose one outfit in CAS, but you really can do amazing things with recolor if you also use patterns and recolor them.  Other than the green one, you can use a variety of different skin tones and just slant their eyes and ears and voila!  You only choose two traits and one FF.  My monarch is blood thirsty which means she always wants to get into a fist fight, but rough housing with her counselor or builder takes away the negative buff.  Sometimes you need to have that FF showing to finish a quest and sometimes it can be difficult to make it happen.  Once your character is built and you are in live mode, you can go to their chest and do "plan a change of clothes" and you then go back to CAS and can make 5 outfits and hair changes all at once.  It's the same unlock the hair thing but no going back and forth to a mirror.  Another cool thing is you can actually change clothes for someone else, an option you get at your chest.  I have an npc spinster going around dressed like a queen. lol
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

I don't need the traits as I was just wondering if they were limited or not but thanks for the offer anyway!

@ Joria - Thanks for the explanations on Elves! They are my favourite Mythical Creature so I think I shall be using a lot of them. I hate that Sims 3 doesn't have pointed ears, Grrrr!

I have an npc spinster going around dressed like a queen. lol

What is a Spinster? Is it like a name for someone who spins wool or something?
