Which one? Jailhouse rock? ;D (nah, just kidding! ;))

I also made a sim that looked like me, but they didn't have the right haircut so I gave him an Elvis haircut and a moustache (I have neither ::)).
Hahah, Swede, you really do have quite the sense of humor :) I have tried once, (and people who know me, I become quite the perfectionist when creating sims or houses) and well, they had my hair, but it looked TERRIBLE on the Sim me... which of course made me do a double check on my hair to ensure that I don't look too terrible. My hair is wavy and messy curly sometimes, meaning it would be one of the first curly ones that goes down to the shoulders (though it's getting longer) and so that hairstyle that they have on there just doesn't look right... anyways, my style for naming Sims is I usually keep a list next to my desk (which I have recently misplaced, (e-gasp!) which is why my three new Sims are named similarly to Shakespeare (one of my heroes!), baby girl: Juliet Capulet. (at the time I wasn't thinking much) Father: Gregory Capulet, and then random old lady to take care of Juliet: Isabella Nurse.
Cheezy I know, but normally I go with names people don't hear of often, like Azera, or Rasalyn (which is one of my favorites :D)

I just sort of have names pop into my head.  Like this legacy I'm working is Mariska Malenkaya.  She married Christopher.  I try to put part of the parental names in the babies so one of her daughters was ChristaMari and her daughter married an Orlando and has a daughter named OrlandaMari.  After awhile it gets complicated but I can always go back to founders names after the third gen.

One family name I"ve been debating is MacNamara.  The story line will be my father was the famous MacNamar of "MacNamara's Band".  That's an old, Irish, (US Irish not traditional Irish), song that my little grandson loves to dance to, and since I have Irish step dancers in the family it's pretty easy to come up with something sort of Irish or Gaelic.  Could really work up a good story line with that one though.
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

MacNamara makes me think of Nip/Tuck ;)

I often use a site called behindthename.com when I name my sims. They have some good name themes, also a "names for twins" category. If I play a legacy I give next generation names that begins with the next letter. First names are no problemo but surnames can be a pain sometimes.

Ugh, I completely agree! I could spend 30 minutes to an hour trying to think of a good last name! I mean if you're playing a legacy then this last name will be stuck with you for 10 whole generations, or if you're playing it for fun, then you never know how far that name could be spread!

My legacy's last name was Dreamweaver.  If I play another one, it will also be Dreamweaver (I lost the original file in a reinstall).

My multi-generational family was - and is completely again - Clearwater (yes I got it from Twilight but I thought it was cool) - though another strand (in the same house) is Ly, to make me feel better about my boss, who's name was Ly, and was kinda hard to get along with. :)

The family I had going for a bit were the White's   Cameron and Edith White.  I had the White family for many generations until my game decided to hate me, then I got bored with it crashing and started much smaller games.  But all this talk of Legacy families might have me bring the Whites back for another try!

:D

When I really can't think up a name, I just name my sims something relevant to what they're going to be when they turn into young adults. I named a baby in my legacy who was going to be a Rockstar 'Music' - and I'm planning to name the planned heiress, who's going to be a chef, 'Jellybean'. I imagine all the kids at school will laugh at her when they hear her name  :D

I'm blessed with an active imagination, so usually I don't choose common names like 'Beth'...instead I go for strange and fancy names, like 'Kruika'. I just choose a starting letter, say S, then I find a vowel or nice letter - lets choose Y here. Lastly I just choose anything that goes with it...So with Sy I could choose 'Syclophia'.

I also have the Scooby Gang!  made them look as close to the characters as possible, at least in clothing and hair!  Their traits as well... Coward for Shaggy, Brave for Freddie, Clumsy for Daphnie, and Genius for Velma, though with the new Perceptive trait its even better since they randomly pull out magnifying glasses and 'search' for clues!  :D

My next family might be the Riverdale gang - Archie, Betty, Veronica and Reggie.  Maybe even Midge, Moose and Dilton... seven in one house.. awesome!  Lets see.. Snob for Veronica, mean-spirited for Reggie.... ;D

A while ago I usually started with one sim, a blonde woman named Petra -- it's my room-mate's name and I made a new Petra every time she changed her hair cut, which she did quite often. I'd then name the children some random names that pop into my head, like Alex, Larissa, Tina, Amelia -- in fact I use Romanian names, these are the ones that sound a bit English too.
I once wanted an evil sim, and I named her Cruella de Vil, but I didn't play her too much, because she really wasn't that evil. Though stealing candy from a baby looked kind of funny  ;D
Oh and also for my "crazy 8s" challenge I named my sim Gwendolyn, which I think it's a quite beautiful name.

I always have problems with Sim names, I'm not sure. Recently I've been using the names from TV shows, movies, and books I like. Everything in the game will then follow that pattern.

Has anyone heard of Avatar? You know, the last airbender one? I like names like that.
Morala
Anmela
Sentana (sounds spanish)
Sochan (Japan?)
Tocana
Enrila
Bata (short a)
Jestan
Fohuge(Fo hug e)
Nevatue
A lot of times, I just add an 'a' to words I hear, then change the spelling! Or type randomly, then change it up. Like,
Sdnhusanvo
Sednusan
