Well, many names do exist in several languages. One of the names I brought up in my earlier post was Carl, which actually comes from the Northern Germanic languages and the word it came from is still valid to use in normal speech. It comes from the word "karl" which means a man, especially a very brutish man and you can lay emphasis on that by saying "karlakarl" which translates kinda into "manly man". So these names spread to different languages just as normal words and phrases do and can be found in several places.

Haha... Koos Werkeloos. Must be quite an interesting sim to play! Jan met de Pet could be a moocher!

Those are not all of them, Leto. The nicest Dutch names are the ones who are not stereotype at all!

Name a few. I'm sure people on the forum can use them. And haha, you're absolutely right. ;) Of course there are many because as swede1992 mentions before: there are more Dutch man than swedish (I forgot the exact number) so it could be that I forgot a million or two.

So... this was the thread that finally pushed me over the registration-line.

It's interesting to see how players name their sims. Personally I use name themes for my games, usually some kind of celebrities, real or fictional. There are however a few exceptions to these themes.

Almost all my neighborhoods includes my standard characters. One of them is my dear french artist Jean-Claude d'Artiste, an unemployed womanizer who is trying to give the impression of living "the good life" but is really broke on the brink of bankrupcy. He's been around since Sims 1 and I can't imagine a neighbourhood without him. Robert Berg is another "old friend", a  soldier macho man who prefers not to be promoted because soldiering isn't about desk work. He's usually hitting on the girl next door called Sydney Hotpants. She's into music and is working her way to the stars. I hope that they one day will actually get together and start a famliy.

Before I click post I must tell you about a friend of mine who couldn't decide the name for a nooboo in Sims 1. She left the computer to go get one of those baby name-books. When she finally had her mind made up she returned to the computer only to discover that the textbox was gone and that the little boy from now on would be known as "Simbarn" (that's "Sim child" in Swedish).

Interesting, I'm definitely getting inspired to create some of those sims you have! You seem very creative!

That is just hilarious! Hopefully that can't happen in Sims 3?

Too funny!  That happened to me once in Sims 1 too!  And back then there was no way to change it, so you were just stuck with it. lol

Haha. I remember that, too. I'm very surprised how much stuff I started to remember from the Sims 1 again once I started reading on this forum, lol. And I think I was like 7 or 8 when I played it. :P

Oh, the Sims 1. I remember vaguely that I have played that, too, and I remember that I mostly had a Timon sim around, named after the animal I don't know the English term for (in Dutch it is called a stokstaartje or meerkat, which means sticktail or lakecat) from the Lion King.
Mostly I didn't know a proper last name, but then I've found out you don't realy have to apply one (in the CAS from The Sims 1). When you hold your mouse over the field where the last name should be put, click on that so a letter from the keyboard can be put in, hover with your mouse over the Done button, and than quicly press spacebar and leftclick with the mouse at the same time on done. This will turn your lastname in the hidden lastname: Spacebar. But because you can't see a spacebar of coure, the name will be invisible. To bad this don't work naymore with The Sims 2 and 3.

But Disney names for sims will still work sometimes, although it could be hard to make them look like the original character. :)

Meerkat would be the English name I believe.
Well I know that because I just went to the zoo yesterday! So I'm almost 100% positive they are called Meerkats in English as well.

They keep the Dutch name? Wow, I haven't expect that.
