I just go to the phone book or pick some great names out of a novel I am reading.  Then I also have a baby name book handy.

Not to sound bossy or anything, but can we please get back on topic?

If you're referring to the meerkat thing, the last of those posts was a week ago.  I'd say the thread is back on topic.  And please leave things like this for Moderators to handle in the future.

I typed in the search bar most popular male and female names  then a list of surnames. So I when I created a town full of new single sims I took the first male name and first surname, first female then second surname on the list.
Do a list of flowers, or call them after cities they don't need proper names. I created a couple who look like the actors king henry viii and Anne bolyen from the programme "the Tudors". Or I just chose a name that pops into my head.

I'm up to the Es in my multi-generational family. The first of the E generation I have named Edme (I found it on a baby names site) - she will be a ghosthunter. I also plan to have Echo (firefighter), Enigma (inventor) and Elixer (Doctor). Cool, aye? :)

Very cool.  I like those E names.  My current collector challenge Sim's name also starts with an E: Elvis Presley.  ;D

Lol! Elvis is a great name. Does he happen to look like Elvis too?

I tried to make him look like young Elvis.  I even used the advanced tools in CAS, but Elvis' features are hard to duplicate.

I'm no expert on Elvis, but I think you did well with him. :)
I tried to make myself once (as you can see in my little profile picture) but it was hard, and I didn't get me exactly right. My hairstyle especially is hard to duplicate - shoulder length waves that form ringlets further down, but unfortunately not one big ringlet like that big hairstyle they introduced recently on the shop. And I have no idea how to spell ringlet.

A way of naming sims that I found fun in sims2 was to name them after descriptive words (adjectives). I had a sim named Shy, though she wasn't shy at all when she grew up, and I named her dog Happy, and then the next dog Loyal, and her children were to be named Bold and Gentle.

My avatar is supposed to be me, too.  Haha!

For Sim names, I often use celebrities or famous characters.  Indiana Jones, Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, the Brady Bunch, etc.  I've also gone though the planets, the months of the year, colors, flowers, fruits, and every dragon and rider from Pern that I could think of.  It gets harder and harder.  Surprisingly, this is my first Elvis.  I walked down the aisle to an Elvis song, so I guess you could say I'm a fan.  :D

I am horrible at naming my Sims.  In my long generational families (legacy I guess, without the rules?) the daughters all start with the first letter of the mother, and sons, the father.  The house is passed down to the first born which saves generation after generation of the same letter.  It was when Zachary married the maid (Quina) that names started to get difficult so I turned to http://www.behindthename.com/  A naming site, multiple names, multiple languages as well as their meanings.  Helped me out a bunch.

Right now for the Wishmaster challenge I've named them after the months  August, September, October and November.

:D

Which one? Jailhouse rock? ;D (nah, just kidding! ;))

I also made a sim that looked like me, but they didn't have the right haircut so I gave him an Elvis haircut and a moustache (I have neither ::)).
