This was amusing to my husband and I, so I thought I'd share with ya'll. :)

I was using the name randomizer to name a Sim. I was flashing through it, looking for a name that suited her, when my own last name (which is not very common) popped up. Showed my hubby and chuckled at the coincidence and kept going. Within 10 names, I was starting to think my game was stalking me. Of the 10:

1 was DH's mother's maiden name
1 was my maiden name
2 were our best friends's last names
1 was our goddaughter's last name

None of the names were common/ popular. DH actually asked me if the game was connected to my facebook and pulling the names off of that. Just plain old sheer dumb luck.

I have a Greek mythology name theme going on in my legacy game, so the founder is called Persephone and her daughters (triplets - I don't think I'll ever use the fertility treatment again) are called Aërope, Pasiphaë and Ariadne.
There are a lot of gorgeous names to find in Greek myths for sure :) I'm saving the more obvious ones (like Athena and Helen) for later and using the more obscure ones for now...

EDIT:
Some more suggestions might be nice:

Female:
Andromache, Antigone, Artemis, Atalante, Briseïs, Demeter, Elektra, Eos, Iphigenia, Penelope,  Phaedra, Thetis

Male:
Atlas, Atreus, Ganymedes, Hektor, Hippolytos, Hyachinthos, Iason, Nestor, Orestes, Patroclos, Perseus

I combine two randomly generated names in CAS. My current mother got the name Ashley Carver from the name gen in CAS.

Sometime in the next few days I am going to go over the names here and pick out some that I like.

I have some to add, and I may be stating ones that have already been mentioned, it is hard to remember them all.

I like to pick a type of theme, whether it be Celtic, Native American or other

The Native American I hunted up names and their meanings
Female  (went with what I see as very feminine names)
Amitola (Rainbow)----------Awentia (fawn)----------Chimalis (bluebird)----------Lomasi (pretty flowers)----------Nidawi (fairy)----------Peta (golden eagle) this name had different meanings in different tribes so I picked the one that I liked best
Sahkya (mink)----------Zitkela (bird)----------Howi (dove)----------Mika (raccoon)----------Litonya (darting butterfly)----------Nascha (owl)----------Dyani (deer)----------Pazi (yellow bird)----------Sapata (dancing bear)----------Simopa (fox cub)----------Kimama (butterfly)----------Wauna (snow goose)----------Chenoa(dove)----------Niabi (fawn)

Male
Dyami (eagle)-----------Honaw (bear)----------Istaqa (coyote man)----------Mingan (grey wolf)----------Sahale (falcon)----------Taregan (crane)----------Tacho (cougar)----------Tpe (fox)----------Honovi (strong deer)----------Aspi (coyote)----------Beshkno (bald eagle)----------Gaagll (raven)----------Hemene (wolf)----------Mohe (elk)----------Paco (eagle)----------Sinopo (fox)----------Tahaton (hawk)----------Taysco (antelope) I hope I got the spelling right.

I can sometimes write in cursive letters that can be two different letters, usually it is a word in a sentence and it makes sense.  I tried to make sure that I spelled these correctly, but if someone knows that the spelling is wrong, please let me know and I am really sorry.

These are great names, Janna! I love the names Chimalis and Chenoa, but they're all good.

Haha! These are some pretty nice names. What I usually do is name them after important historical figures like Catherine or Kennedy. I know, it's dorky, but to me there so elegant.

I have a huge name book that I get my names out of. It spans names from a variety of cultures, time periods, religions, etc. It even gives the meanings of the names, and lists them by themes (flowers, gemstones, colors, even zodiac signs). Some of my favorites:

Belisama
Ciaran
Nikolai
Kestral
Bellatrix

And of course, I'll use names from video games, and, more recently, Magic the Gathering. For example, Liliana, Jace, Gideon, Vraska, Elspeth, Ajani, and Garruk.

As for surnames, I'm fond of using the randomize button, unless I've already thought of one. Like my vampire family. They've had the last name of Bellamy for a while, and I like it.

I never name my Sims normal names! I tend to name them after something - or just name them really awesome names that I fall in love with. Whatever you do, don't name your Sim something you don't really like or think as just an 'eh' name! The world is in your hands... if you can't think of anything, name it something funny or a name you've always liked!
Here are some I've just collected:
BOYS:
-Jet
-Wilder
-Pilot
-Axel
-Striker
-Rogue
-Cassian
-Cashmere
-Gilbert
-Combat
-Brighton

GIRLS:
-Carter
-Blaze
-Storm
-Jinx
-Rebel
-Harley
-Cora
-Coral
-Eloise
-Ember
-June
-Oakley
-Georgie
-Rose
-Ruby
-Haven
-Harlow
-Bee
-Tyler
-Jersey

Have fun thinking of all the possibilities!

Try color names! Take your sims favorite color- for example, yellow. Then you think of yellow names (Apollo) and if you don't like those yellow names, think IOC something that is yellow (lemon). Is your name Limon? Or maybe Citrino? Yes, this is how I thought up the name Citrino. Other colors are easier. Purple could be Violet or Lila or.... Everything I'm saying is from my immortal dynasty. Ok, one last tip: try the favorite color in a different language! White=Blanche. Yellow=Citron.

Well, most sims i have, are like, alien-y people (including my Time Lords, Laakhatea Sweptlifar, her loom-cousin\twin-brother Toorehiki, and Watalu Myloto, who operated on a different time-line and actually lived on her own, in a "Mashuga-style" house near Pinochle Pond, and then invited Iliana Langerak in as her companion, unlike Laakha and Toorey who lived in the Landgraab home.), humanized Pokèmon or some such, characters based on other series, "crazified" households, and peculiar characters like an hipster that painted a lot or a teenage scene kid wanting to broke out in the music industry. In TS2 i made families where 2 parents had 2 kids, but the maid\homeworker\live-in worker also had a kid with the dad. And le such. Most of my families are actually quirky households of magical girls and le such, even when i play TS3 with premade characters, i'm playing as the Roomies household, not the Goth's or Bachelors. (I want to start a Blair + Cycl0n3 legacy challenge... not exactly a Dinasty and they will live in Modernehause http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20101107161919/sims/images/b/bb/Modernehaus.jpg not the lot near Alto and Landgraab... but a regular themed-ish Legacy where almost everything is l33t and stuff. And i also have other ideas for themed legacies... but it all depends of anything...)

Ok, here's many possible names i will use in my neighboorhood most of them atypical families and possibly not even actually human.
So it's mostly fantastic\scifi names. (Or maybe these are the names for the sims of the legacy described above? But would not they be in "3l1t3-sp34k" too?)

First names for guy: Raylon, Boyd, Goopy, Ernand, Xandir, Frazernes, Pizleyn, Andric, Rainer, Noydors, Frion, Zepulon, Roehan, Tuzheiishfal, Krize, Preltan, Planet, Atom, Karlon, Elan, Liamnes, Kavin, Kieven, Niorum, Tarezeus, Janus, Therinizol, Tesla, Fang, Pizz, Buck, Chester, Shieldan, Capris, Spear, Zed, Narkey, Fast, Roynal, Regynald, Kingly, Elf, Ciaran, Notzo, Glarn, Vidcund, Lazlo, Pascal, Wogan, Nogein, Shatner, Kai, Len, Rizzo, Shield, Danovar, Torgo, Shibelum, Porygone, Link, Marshall, Steward, Aliens, Krazed, Chess, Hacky, Zalleyn, Trumpcard, Tornado, Cyclone, Stiles, Zarahad, Trollium, Xemnas, Xigbar, Xaldin, Vexen, Lexaeus, Zexion, Zexal, Saix, Axel, Demyx, Luxord, Marluxia, Roxas.

First names for girl: Karlyn, Susan, Zoiza, Porygan, Xoydetta, Lynia, Blair, Bayden, Kraken, Starr, Venus, Zenith, Rayne, Zo, Kizz, Leynapreh, Leet, Tris, Fivey, Seven, Princess, Dracona, Emma, Tamara, Raxxi, Punky, Chrystal, Barbarica, Stella, Gazz, Heartstar, Jaded, Gally, Sistah, Bowl, Pucky, Tenny, Kaiko, Miku, Makee, Keryl, Tizzi, Chique, Scienza, Scotland, Ireland, Faraway, Kyara, Pamyu, Xi-lin, Futurelly, Kaizesque, Neiquod, Ribahlom, Vu, Cherish, Bunny, Glabe, Kitty, Lola, Chloe, Jenny, Una, Uniqua, Perpugilliam, Einaudela, Trixxeena, Kimmi, Tinny, Lu-Yan, Xing-Po, Merzy, Teri, Kaaru, Ursa, Sparkles, Zextin, Larxene, Xion, Namine, Bieber.

Matching last names for these: Sword, Wainwright, Curious, Gieke, Kim, other surnames of geeky-ish\scientist Sims families? (obvious) or just pick out a last name out of the same list. Roynal Sparkles-Chloe falls in love with Ireland Faraway Kyara Shibelum-Barbarica? And their kid's called Neiquod Vexen Capris Sparkles-Shibelum Trix? (the name "Trix" might have been gained by doing something important like conquering a corner of space that was named Trix. Or is the name of someone who sacrificed themselves for the baby.)

I usually never have a "regular" family and by regular family i mean... average people that can exist normally in real life and lead a pratically normal life if not being slightly prettier than the average man or woman? Yeah, i have aliens, mad scientists, and these types of households.

Think how Claire Ursine is somehow part bear, Thorton Wolff comes from a werewolf family and may even be a werewolf himself, Cycl0n3 Sw0rd thinks he's in Mass Effect instead of The Sims 3, the Goths are basically Midnight Hollow rejects with a sprinkle of the Addams or Osbournes, the Harts are as crazy as they can be, Agnes is basically almost a witch, and Bella is part of some sort of long line of occultists and mystics.

My Sims characters pull out this "magicness" that already is there, and pull it out on a larger scale. Wonder how a werewolf that is also 12.5%Bear (the kid of Friursine unborn baby and Morgana and Thornton's kid) would fare in existence? Their name would propably be Hybreed or Wolfbear???  :o

(Claire Ursine wears the hat to cover her bear ears, and she propably has a tail too.)

Generally I use a random name generator, or if I'm running by a theme, a list of names for that particular type of theme.

I always name my Sim as my real name in real life! I don't know why but I want to be immersed in the game as deep as possible! Anyone else does the same thing?

In my current savefile, Yumi's adopted son is named Sam Sekemoto II (Sam I does not even appear on Leighton's family tree)  and since Blair Wainwright moved out of Sunset Valley (but i thought she died of electrocution at first) and she is one of my fave sims that i really wanted to see die of old age while living in Sunset Valley or even become immortal trough an young again potion, not move out of Sunset while the only things that have happened since Day 1 were the births of the 2 unborn babies, some Face 1 sims becoming residents of SValley, Yumi Sekemoto getting a complete personality makeover, start using a time-machine in front of the salon, change her name to Kayeze, & adopting a black kid named after Kayeze\Yumi's long-lost grandson - said kid also has the same hair color as Blair's father for some reason (Salon magic, actually. I wanted the platinum-white Boyd Wainwright(tm) hair color to go and pass on townies without need for them to actually have any Wainwright blood in their veins. I think salon-changed hair color is genetic, but it might be not. It should replace the yucky Molly French(tm) green-ish hair!) oh, and also the Keatons ending up living in the Condor Museum Loft.

If she actually died and not just moved out without me knowing, it's there a way to tell how she died???

Kaiko, I removed the spoiler tags from your post (they are very rarely, if ever, used here). I should also note that your post in incredibly off-topic for the thread, as it has nothing to do with sims' names.

Well it's because i named Tamara and Xander's daughter after Blair Wainwright, only she will have a middle initial J (for Jennifer - she's also named after Jennie Clavell) and for now she is "Blair Jennifer Donner" but that may change to "Blair J. Clavell" or they could hyphenate, and when she turns into an YA, she goes into the city hall to change her surname to Wainwright.

Sunset Valley needs a Blair Wainwright.
