The Sims Medieval has a new 'Randomize Name' button. I use that quite frequently when playing Medieval.

Yes! I use that like 90+% of the time!
Hi!

I wish they (TSM) had it when you name a new baby, too.  I'm so glad they added it in CAS anyway.  I've always thought it would be neat if new names could be added to your game's name pool during updates, maybe altering the frequency of some names, adding new ones, etc.

They will pick your name out for Mysterious Mr.Gnome, Mr.Snugglesworth, and your pet fish.

I like Simple ordinary names, for my Gnome, Teddy, and Fish.

I knew about the fish, but I didn't realize about the gnomes and teddies.  Cool!

Yes it's true. When you click on teddy, there is an interaction "Give Name to." The Same applies to Mr.Gnome. I named my gnome Trevor.

Sometimes I use names of people I know, sometimes I use names from a specific country or continent (right now I have a family where all the names are Russian), sometimes I just make them up, and sometimes I use the names of famous people. Usually, it's whatever name is in my head when I push the Create button.

I always name my first born Chowder, if my Sim has a baby boy.

I tend to think up a specific heritage for my Sims (also seen in their appearance), and then I pick names accordingly. Sometimes I'll roleplay a story why the sims' parents would've gone with a name from a different background. If I'm short on inspiration, or on knowledge of names with a specific origin, I'll browse the web for it. Babyname sites can be great for that, as well as specific cultural sites.

I seem to name all of my more "out-of-the-box" Sims either Skip, Leonardo, or Frank. I am not quite sure why.

In my early Sim days these were my most commonly used names-
For girls: Stacy , Emily, Jeni, Lily, Sabrina, Tabitha, Lucy, Paige , Carrie, Rose, Melanie, Rachel, Beth, Emma, Lily, Chelsea, Courtney, Gabrielle, Molly, Sarah
For boys : Todd, Holden, Erik, Christopher, Jim, Chase, Rob, Mark , Steve, Ethan, Mason, Tom, Davis, Trevor, Grant, Ryan, Alex, Cooper

Then I went through a whole androgynous names phase (these were used for girls)
Riley, Ryan, Hayden, Kendal, Tristen, Devin, Casey, Drew, Jaiden, Jamie, Jordan, Madison, Morgan, Parker, Taylor

Currently I have:
Matthew, Laurel, Shiloh, Suri, Ruby, Steel, Cerise, Hunter, Ava, Mia, Sophia, Nicholas, Raven, Briar, Megan, Melinda, Michelle

And a favorite name that went to the daughter of Sim hippies - Anthem

I went through food names on my Sims for a long time. For boys I had Chowder, Gorgonzola, Pork, Shintizl, Krab, Garlic, Chipolte, Cilantro, Fudge and Mung Daal. Girls I did Panini, Sushi, Cupcake, Candy, Truffles, Strawberry, Cherry, Blueberry, Babybel, and Endive. I think the Cartoon Network show Chowder has to do with the names I'm giving my Sim Babies.

Right now I have Patricia, Cherry, Demeter, Faith, Lucy and Athena in one of my families without a specific storyline. In my other I have Elana and Penny. I also have Oksana, Viktor, Ekaterina, Felicia, James, Butterfly, Rabbit and Sally in the families for which I have a plan.

Not sure if I've mentioned this before, but oh well.

I love having themes for different names to do with families. This can be seen in my Barnacle Bay story. There is the Sargeant family, who's children are named after adjectives e.g. Bold, Gentle. And I am continuing the Greenwood theme of naming the children after gems: Jade, Emerald and Topaz. One family is going to be named after berries: Strawberry, Raspberry... Nina Caliente's female descendents will all have "ina" in their name e.g. Mina, Rina. Some families I choose a nationality like Chinese names for Molly Coddle's children (Ming), an Egyptian name for Helmi Hosni's son (Rameses), and spanish names for the Malifa family (Catalina). Let me think, what else? The McGraw family I gave what I think of as ordinary names - no real theme, just nothing out there. For Agnes' children I wanted old traditional names (Ingrid). For the Grisby family I wanted unusual names (Evann). Not sure of a theme for the Lins or the Steels yet...

I also have a special fondness for names similar to those of the pre-mades in TS3, but which I came up with myself.  Colleen O'Dinerry (Ordinary), Eve Ryday (Everyday), Olma Hubbard (Old Mother Hubbard), Ari Therriet (Are We There Yet?), Alpha Betts (or Alf A. Betts, Alphabets).  Those kinds of names crack me up.   :D
