As for methods of choosing which name to use, I usually use the amount of letters from the last name that I used, and count down the list.
Otherwise I use names that start with the last letter of the previous name.

*edit*
If I'm trying to produce a lot of kids (like in a baby boomer challenge) I usually name them after the months.

I will sometimes go with puns, but lately I just grab a copy of 20,001 Names for Baby, flip to a random page and point (girls names are in the front half, boys names are in the back half) and the name I like nearest my finger goes on the Sim.

Almost all of the names listed have anywhere from three to 20 or more variations as well as their origin, like Pam comes from Pamela, Greek, coined in the 16th century and means "All-honey."

Or Carl: Variation on Charles from Old Gaelic meaning "Man."

So, usually it's something on the page of that book that will pop up.  When I named my third gen little girl in my Dynasty game, the only name on two pages I liked was Crystal (meaning Ice) and Cressida (from a Shakespearean and/or Chaucer tale) that didn't have a meaning.  Since I'd been staring at Ice sculptures for so long, Crystal was an easy choice.  Not very Pantheistic, but it's fun.

I often use peoples name I know from School since that is a good place to get a variety of names, even if Ben and Josh comes up a lot.  :)

My rule is I am NOT allowed to use family/friends names... I know it's silly but If they die in the game(other than old age) I am scared I have jinxed them in real life or something hahahaha
also I do NOT use names that are already in the game or that I have already used before
I like to be kind of original

but I DO use names of characters from movies/tv shows/books etc...
or If I see a name while reading a magazine I like...

How do you name your sims?
« Reply #154 on: March 15, 2011, 09:03:44 PM »
I do not know if this has come up before. But I feel it could be something worth asking. I tend to use my mind or a D&D book I picked up. (Gary Gygax's Extraoroinary Book of Names {by Malcolm Bowers}). What I use to name other things varies but my sim names are based off what I am feeling or what I find out that book. I know there are many baby naming websites out there ect...

I use and name what I see fit. Sometimes if I wanted to I could name a whole city/town. But I do not make cities I use them. So have a whole lot of names to pick from helps me as the game progresses.

What do you use if anything?

OK. Like I said, I did not know if there were any others. My main one is so big I would not want to mess things up (as it is a few years old and well a book to help naming in another game than the sims).

Thanks for merging. It might refresh this old topic. If it does not die again. But I am in part used to having as part of the forum rules not to revive a thread a week older or more. So it is always helpful when I see otherwise. Well to a point anyway.

It's fine in this case.  However, we do have rules about using proper English on this Forum (I've edited a couple of your posts).  Please have a look at the rules again.  The link is in my signature.  :)

I will try my best no matter how it turns out. If I need help ill ask before I post if anyone is willing to try and fix any large posts before I place them.

Better then being yelled at for every mistake at least.

My cousin had a baby just now. I called it Johnny Bravo. LOL.

Yes, this is my real life cousin, in Sim Form.

I use literally any name that comes to mind. If I'm desperate, I search through one of the baby-names websites to find a name. I've found some pretty eclectic names using that method.

The Sims Medieval has a new 'Randomize Name' button. I use that quite frequently when playing Medieval.
