Moveobjects on cheat and doors/windows
« on: March 24, 2011, 05:14:00 AM »
Mine's a simple question really but I just can't figure out the answers. So, if you have moveobject on cheat and you try placing a door or window, when you turn off the cheat all you are left with is the outline of the door/window and the brick (or whatever your wall is coloured with) in the middle. How do I stop this from happening? I've seen on youtube windows being placed like this in a basement wall aquarium, and the person just seemed to click something and they all came back.

Hope this makes sense.

This is just an odd rendering issue.  Click on the window/door and it will return to normal.  However, sometimes they are stubborn and keep switching back and forth.  You get one back to normal, then the one next to it goes wrong.  Get the other back to normal, then the first one goes wrong.  When that happens, you just have to construct something different.

Often, you can fix this after you place your window if you've still got the cheat activated: Just pick up the window and put it straight back in the same spot without moving it across the walls. This doesn't work though if there's already something in the wall (another door, say), and the blockiness comes back if you drag anything through the window while you're building (ie. if you're placing a dooor with moveobjects on activated and you just so happen to pass your cursor over the window). I find that you can usually fix it with this method, although sometimes your only choice is to just give up and find a new placement.   :P

EDIT: Ooops, guess Pam and I posted at the same time.   :-\

I normally place a series of windows, hit the undo button until they're all removed if they end up wonky.  When I use the redo button to place them back, they'll be set in properly.  Same principle but saves a tiny bit of leg-work at least for me.

Oh, sweet irony, deliver me from coincidence.

Use Moveobjects to place the windows, then turn Moveobjects off, now you delete the windows. Now for the fix, use the undo arrow to replace the deleted windows and they come back properly. It works for me so it should work for everyone else.

Thanks everybody for your answers. I'll give it a try next time I load up the sims, although it will have to be after the upgrade challenge.

What causes this problem is dragging a build/buy item over them with the moveobjects cheat on.  Fix it by either going down a level and then back up again or click on the window/door and move the mouse slightly.  To ensure this doesn't happen all the time turn off your moveobjects cheat when you don't need it anymore.
