The Official Prima Guide

I just got the Prima Guide in the mail today if anyone has a question I can see if the answer is in it.

Carl and I went to Best Buy yesterday and I bought one for myself. It is nice, but as we're playing we're finding mistakes in the Prima Guide as usual—the Carl's Medieval Guide will be much more accurate. But, there's no denying that the Prima Guide is a great resource — especially in this situation when you're staring at a brand new game and are wondering how to possibly save time. No denying that.

Yeah, it's funny because twice last night I couldn't find the answer I wanted in it, but it's helpful for things like if I'm at the market and I need to know what the ingredients to something are. But I can't wait for Carls guide, they are always so full of great information!

I bought the Prima Guide at the same time I bought the game at Gamestop.  Unfortunately I did not know that Catherine Browne was one of the authors or I would've never wasted my money.   While she may be a nice person and all that, I really hate her guides for sims3, with so many errors in them I basically have ignored them after buying them.

I found that going to "..." and Options and using Lessons, that explains things much better.  That's the only way I found out how to get a edict passed.

I'm not sure if I would totally blame Catherine Browne, bshag. I think it's a combination of her and just the fact that she is writing her guides from very early beta releases and EA tweaks and refines the game in that stage before final pressing of the release disks.

I have found two mistakes within the in-game Lessons as well, at this point.  So it's no worse/better than the Prima Guide.  Almost wish I had the Prima Guide just for a few things that I probably could have learned from there instead of the hard way.  



EDIT:  I do have one question (I hope this isn't too off topic).   Does it say anywhere in the guide why I'm getting notifications about other heroes? An example is I was just playing my blacksmith and I got a notification at the top right that my knight is chivalrous.  This is something I already knew as I made the Sim.  Any idea as to why it would be making the announcement and not giving any reason?

If anyone buys the Prima eguide, beware, as for me it had an infected file with a trojan horse in it.  I am waiting for them to refund me my money.

That's bizarre. I would only expect that to come up if the Knight were a secondary Hero in that quest. I haven't played one with 3 heroes yet, but know a lot use two.

I've already written the first of my guides (the Peteran Priest). I had an itch to write while I'm visiting with Tom and that was what I happened to be playing with at the time. I expect to get enough content ready that we can have something substantial published on the Medieval domain I registered on April 3. As you can imagine, it'll take some time. I'm glad to have two other people working with me this time (Pam and Metro).

Quality can't be rushed, Carl.  I think we all know that. 

I only ever get the Knight is Chivalrous when I'm not playing him and it happens a lot.  I can't tell if it's because he's also licentious and he tried flirting with someone else or if they tried to flirt with him.  The quest for a legendary trait popped back up so I think I'll cool his burning loins as the quest text stated and see if it comes up after this. I haven't played the two clergymen much.  I'm in love with the blacksmith and physician and I'm down to like 8 QP.

I'm excited for the new website and what will undoubtedly be outstanding content!  I hope there will be strong representation there from the members of this community because you are a fantastic, fun bunch!

Maybe you keep seeing that message because your active heroes are socializing with him, and discovering his traits. You may notice the same hero never gets that message again after they got it once. Am I right?

Nope.  In that kingdom, I saw the message at least thirty times for my knight, only my knight.  And none of my characters were near him when I saw it. I'm fairly certain it's because he was doing something he shouldn't have (flirting) or someone was flirting with him.  So every time it happened I was made aware of it.

Yep, I agree with you. It just happened to me a while ago; I kept getting messages about my monarch being chivalrous all the time. Definetly a bug.

It's not a bug.  It's your Sim using a romantic social when he shouldn't!  I just caught my knight in the act lol.

I just got my copy of the guide, almost a week after the game itself arrived.  Having the guide would certainly have made it easier figuring out how to do certain things, but it was kind of fun learning everything on my own.  What I like best about the guide is having all the recipes for food, spells, medicine, etc, so I don't have to try to remember what I need.  They also have the steps for each of the quests so you can tell how many steps remain.  This is helpful if you're trying to ensure that your sims finish the quest in the platinum range - you know whether to slow down to give your performance time to rise, or if it's full speed ahead.
