This is possibly one of my favorite traits out of all of them.  All you have to do is talk to another Sim about Whale hunting (under traits) and it takes away the rage buff.  No need to go scream at the sea or go buy a boat/harpoon.  Plus it makes it easy when you want to socialize with others anyway.  My physician had it.  Her basic routine was "ask about health" then "diagnose" (here let me yank your tongue out of your head) "oh yea and whale hunting is awesome!" Never had a problem lol  ;D

Oh that's great to know as I gave that trait to my blacksmith.  Should be interesting female uncouth blacksmith ranting about killer whales.

Finally finished the first ambition.  It gave me a choice to "start a new kingdom" or "continue playing".  I decided to start a new kingdom and use my level 10 spy.  So now running around trying to recruit builders and crew.  I have to purchase a "castle in a box", so to speak, lol.  This should be interesting.  I finished on platinum level and my spy does not have her fatal flaw anymore.  Unfortunately, I got called to work for a whole 3 hours tonight, good grief.  I was really getting into this game.  So I guess it is safe to say, probably took me two and half days to finish this game.  I learned alot and the last game was the doctor, which was pretty cool.  I chose the "love doctor" quest, lol.  What a game.  I have played all but the one priest.  Have fun. :)

I'll be honest my first impression was "Oh my gosh, why did I spend $50 on this?" I guess I was expecting it to be a little bit more like the sims and the camera angles really threw me for a loop. I am kind of sad that you can't have your children grow up and be the next hero and you can't build the castles or any of the other buildings. But I guess I realized that EA was trying to really push for an RPG so I pushed through the quests and overall I really do enjoy it!
Here's some things I love about it:
The variety of quests you can do. Especially the ones where you have to control two heroes at a time
The dialogue is hilarious! I find myself laughing most of the time while playing because of some of the stuff they do.
I love how the "simlish" has an accent to it too.
I like the new objects too and all the new ways of doing everyday things.
I also love how it takes a whopping 2 minutes to load up the game instead of the usual 10 or so (which I know if they come put with expansions it'll all change) :P

That's really interesting. Neither Carl or I thought of alleviating the Whale Rage negative buff via only talking about whale hunting with another Sim. Of course, whale hunting for someone with that trait has its own benefits — the tasty whale meat for soups and stews which provide incredible positive buffs as well as the kill buff.

I found that in the beginning when you're strapped for funds that's the fastest way.  Especially since a lot of times I'm trying to milk all the xp out of the first quest with a hero as possible.  So I spend a lot of time just doing stuff for their profession.  Starter quest for each Hero on Ambition#2 I've managed to get to at least level 5.

Which begs me to ask - Is everyone only playing one hero to level 10 then putting in another building/hero or are they putting them all in?  I'm putting in every building but not always assigning a hero when I place it.  Sometimes I do and I let the Sims have fun with the locals while I work on someone else.  Both my clergymen were like that.  I put up their buildings halfway through the game it felt like but I didn't play them until almost the end of my last kingdom.

Well, I suppose that really depends on the Kingdom Ambition. Since you're forced to start with New Beginnings which is simply placing 13 buildings for Platinum — there's no reason to hire and play a bunch of different heroes. Carl and I wanted to though because it's information we need for the Guide. I know one of the unlocked Ambitions is having multiple level 10 Heroes at the end, so that requires a specific strategy.

I've been adding buildings and heroes as I earn the RP to do so.  So far I've done 4 or 5 quests and have a monarch, merchant, wizard, and Peteran priest.  Right now I'm just trying to learn the game mechanics so I haven't been as focused on leveling specific heroes.  I find that it is happening incidentally just by focusing on the daily responsibilities and quest tasks.  With only a handful of quests completed my monarch is at level 4, my wizard is at level 3, and my priest is at level 3.  I haven't played my merchant yet.  I assume that it takes more xp to gain each successive level so that what initially has been a pretty quick process will slow down as each hero sees more play time.

I started with the intention of playing as many different heroes as possible.  I'm not sure if I will still do that or pick just 2-3 to play in hopes of reaching level 10 with them when I finish my first ambition.

My first impressions are not all that good because it stops with "Monarch needed" and a box saying "the monarch sim is a Hero Sim that you need to play the game blah blah" with a "Learn More" button underneath. I press the button, go through the "learning", close it and - I'm back.... It does not continue - all I can do is press "Learn More" to go through learning again, or press the "..." menu button to save (??), options, quit....  ???

I'm so very disappointed because I had such high hopes... I'm very happy with S3, have all the cd's (dvd's) so I expected this one worked just as well even if it's not the same game - just SIMilar....

Well, I think I will PM Metero and ask if I can still join the "Stop the presses"  :) that souns fun, and it's amost a month left....?

You first need to inform him to put you on the 2011 Tournament Roster, by PM. After being put on the Roster, you will be free to participate in any of the 2011 challenges, you don't need to ask for each one. Stop the Presses ends April 24, so there's still a whole month to play, and post your final score. You can be put on the Roster any time until the 2011 Tournament closes. Good luck. :)
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

I know this is a stupid question to ask but I want to make sure I understand what your problem is.  You did actually create a sim or choose a sim to be your monarch right? and you still can't go farther?

Perhaps this is a silly question. Did you select a quest? The game may not continue until a quest is selected.

I never got the chance to create a sim - the game just got stuck in the tutorial it seems :(

It's not a silly question, I just don't have any option to select a quest...
