Carl and I have been busy playing Medieval for about 5 straight hours. It's a fantastic new game. We were at Meijer before the sun came up this morning and the clerk had not even put the game on the shelves yet, so a manager needed to be called to unlock where the games were in storage.

Wow...where to begin? Well, there's a ton of overlap with Sims 3, so all of you should feel right at home. But, it is a true RPG with concepts like Experience at the core. Every morning at 9 AM your hero receives 2 main aspirations for the day and you have varying amounts of time to complete those. You also have Quests to complete and each main quest is made up of many small accomplishments — go talk to X and discuss Y, go to the boat and do Z, go to the Village and do Q, etc. All of these things eat up lots of time because you have no option but to walk everywhere.

My biggest tips at this point is to do a little exploring in a forest at the outset in hopes you find some gems you can sell. You can then go into Buy mode and purchase a better bed because all heroes, even the Monarch starts off with truly abysmal beds and it takes forever for them to be fully rested. Cooking decent meals is another thing you want to address early — your only option without going to the village for ingredients is gruel, so going to the village for something like boar meat will provide meals that yield nice buffs — moodlets are called buffs in Medieval. And the Mood Meter is called Focus.

More to come soon.

At least with this game, there are only two needs bars.  I found quite it fun to go kill my first bear for the meat, with that you gain XP points, which is good.  The main thing like Metro said, is talking to everyone to fullfill certain obligations.  I also found, the game switched on me when I put a spies quarters in and now I am working with a spy, but it still ties in with the main player.  I did, however get married and of course you do not control your spouse, so I guess they just wander around, lol.  Kind of neat, you don't have to clean or do dishes either, there is someone to do that for you, yay.  Have fun guys.  I played for almost 4 hours and learned alot, so this should be interesting. :)

We're at close to 8 straight hours of playing one file. We're tag teaming it basically. Carl fulfills one Quest and then I hop in and do the next Quest, or we may even both knock out a Quest. At the moment we're doing a tough Quest where you need to slay a dragon. We wanted to choose the Knight that we created to be the main hero, but she had just married our Monarch and gave birth to an heir (another key Quest that took forever to complete), so we're wondering if that's the reason why she was not available in the hero list as a choice.

Like I said, we've been playing all day and have only moved our starting RP from 50 to 34. It's going to take another 2 or 3 days before we hit zero and finish the game.

Wow looks like this game is really time consuming!  :o Can't wait to get it tomorrow or the day after, I have nothing else to do! ;D

I probably won't buy it. I wasn't really interested before, but hearing about it makes me less interested. I'll stick to TS3!  ;D I'm glad you guys are having fun though!

I've made the words 'First Impression' a direct link to the thread itself. I'm sure you don't mind Pam. ;)

Happy to oblige, Pam. I'm about pooped from all the gameplay. My brain's in the writing zone so I'm constantly thinking and jotting lots of notes. I'm so eager to launch a new site that I'm probably going to start writing, at least a little, and even put pen to paper on the train ride home. But thankfully, we're also taking time to have fun other than the gaming. I had Spaghetti Carbonara for the first time and picked up some pointers in the kitchen that I'll take home to the family :) Ever heard of a ham taco? That was different but very awesome. Cream cheese, diced ham, and Rotel (diced tomatoes/peppers) Glad we went with habanero :D Metro and I are having a lot of fun just being guys and joking around. Our personalities click in a good way for my favorite kind of humor -- that which I couldn't post here.  :-X

I think we're gonna watch the remake of A-Team now :D The city is nice, but when I'm taking breaks outside I miss the hills to buffer the wind. I guess they do have a purpose after all.  :P

Just saw Sucker Punch with Metro. Wow! I was a big fan of both Watchmen (favorite movie) and 300, so I knew what I'd be getting -- great action. The story was ok, but it was all about the fight scenes. I have to recommend it, but check the trailer first of course. It's definitely not for everyone, but guys will probably love it :P

Haha! Yeah, a fantastic flick (especially for guys). Vanessa Hudgens never looked so non-High School Musical.

I forgot to add that I've also completed the agenda for the Medieval guide. Pam, Metro, and I will be putting out over 100 pages of content :)

I board the train tomorrow to return home, then get started immediately after a nice long nap in my bed ;)

Well, I can't believe Carl's visit is going to be ending in a matter of hours. Wow. The time has just whizzed by incredibly fast. We had a lot of fun. Our combined effort on knocking out the first Medieval Ambitions was lots of fun and we gained valuable info for future Guide articles — look for the first ones to go live a week from tomorrow. I think. :) Carl knows for sure. We'll both be quite busy next week writing, writing, writing.

I take Carl back to Indiana to catch the train in about 3 hours and won't get home until close to midnight. My wife and 3 girls don't return from Florida until Monday afternoon so I'll still have time to clean up the mess. Lol.

A public thanks to Carl for taking a week off to visit. It was a lot of fun. Jambalaya for the win!
