Treasure Chests: does food spoil in them?

I would like to use the chest to store the fish and vegtables i dont want the game to use for fertilizer or bait.  But wondering if food spoils in the chest?

Im still too afraid to get the WA patch,  so my food in the fridge spoils,  but in my back pack it does not.

Thanks!   Now i have a safe place to store the few perfect veg i've grown,  or hard to get fish...untill im ready for the nectar making   And hopefully i wont die before i gather the means to extend life.   There just so many fun things to do in the game,  i really should work on the ambrosa  first so my sim can live long enough  without cheating
