My Elder Beat Natural Death! No cheats, no ambrosia!
« on: December 29, 2009, 01:43:18 AM »
I had to post this because frankly, all I can say is whoa!  :o ;D

For those of you who have read my post - sorry, this is a tiny bit of a spoiler - for those of you who haven't, or don't care.. (it's ok, just something fun for me) I had to post this separately because I find it ODD!

I created the Jones family - redo #3. No cheats. No $$, nothing. Liz is a gardener, but not a natural cook, so she has not eaten any ambrosia. No one in the family knows the recipe, and it's never been made. Lot was buggy, front door issues, mysterious puddles etc. All that apparently has miraculously fixed itself <?> No issues so far all is well.

So, my founder, Indiana Jones dies. It was a May / December romance!  ;)
Now, his wife Liz had learned the charisma skill, and had a wish to use a charming introduction. Grim was on the lot. I thought ahh why not, I already had a Sim slap grim once.. So, I had Liz go over, and use a charming intro greet on him.

Life goes on. Liz hits day 93 or 94. She goes out to the garden. She is harvesting, when all of a sudden

and then sadly..

HOWEVER!  :o :o

She has in her inventory.. a death flower.. actually.. several.. anyway, I'm sitting at the computer half paying attention so I didn't get a screenshot sadly, but I get this message..  "Thank you Elizabeth Jones, this is very thoughtful of you! I have just the vase to put this in!" and then:

Now, I have started TS3 over 3 times now, and everything I have read says that you can not beat death of an elder even if you have a deathflower...and I have had elder sims before that did in fact have one in their inventory, but still died.. Here's the kicker.. Liz comes back, fun meter completely in the toilet but she's back at day 72.. So, all I have to say is.. you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar!  ;D

I will love him and squeeze him and pet him and call him George!!

I discovered that very same thing when I was playing the Ant family from my Rock Star walkthrough.  My Sim Adam Ant died of old age, but he had a Death Flower in his inventory and Grim brought him back to life.  You don't need the charming introduction or anything, just the Death Flower.  I had heard that it wouldn't work for deaths of old age, but I'd never tried or tested it.  It's happened two or three times since then, too.  In fact, when I was ready for Christopher Steele to just die already...  he had a Death Flower for Grim!  Argh!!

Yeah, Pam's right, Bogie. Despite the fact that you think you stumbled on a revelation, the Death Flower in Inventory trick is pretty common knowledge at this point. I've never employed it. And I don't know if it's an eternal thing where you can basically keep a Sim ticking forever as long as they have a Death Flower.

I think Bogie's excitement stems from the fact that it was a death from old age rather than accidental death saved by a Death Flower.  The rumors have been that a Death Flower would save your Sim from dying of fire, drowning, etc., but not old age.  Now we discover that's not the case.  I don't know if it's something new from World Adventures or if it's always been like that and the rumors were just wrong.

Thanks Pam! I feel pretty stupid now actually! Everything I read has said that your sim can not be saved from old age even with the death flower - which is why I was so excited! I think it even says it in Carl's guide - so that's why I was thinking I had a revelation! GEEZ!

Sorry Metro - I've got the reputation of always showing up late to the party!  ;)

I really hope having a death flower will save my Brooke.  She's the first ever sim I made in sims 3 and she is now 960 days old (epic lifespan).  I would really love to have her max out every skill but really don't want to have her make ambrosia (already did that once :P) as her oldest daughter is now elder.  I hate not being able to let go of some simmies.  :'(

Isn't it funny how attached we get to some of our sims?  :D

No worries, Bogie.  I thought the same thing and when it happened with the Death Flower for an Elderly Sim, I was so excited!  I was chatting with Carl at that moment and he was surprised, too.
