What a wonderful and interesting twist on a dynasty, Gheez!  You have a way with words!  Can't wait to read more.  :)

Don't be intimidated by the rules, they are easier to remember and keep track of as you play your dynasty longer.  Also, I take comfort in the fact that a lot of people don't succeed their first, or even second, time around - the fun is in the trying.

I agree with Katluvr, eventually you will be able to remember the rules without checking, except for some minor rules. I hope it goes well for you! ;D

Great start and I can't wait for the next installment!

Also, If you've ever seen any of Bill Cosby's stand-up routines, the one titled Himself has a skit where his first child is a girl and his father tells him be forgot to put the stem on the apple.  That's how I remember apples are for boys!

Lol, what a brilliant way to remember!

I agree, Esther.  They look very similiar in their kitchen uniform hats, I'd also had some pictures of Jared and had to be careful which I posted.

Thanks everyone for your support. I've appreciated and need it. Been finding this difficult but I've taken comfort from your words and inspiration from everybody's wonderful dynasties and will continue.

Interlude

I've received a letter.  A letter from the sim who set me free. She is a geneticist, a geneticist at the laboratory where I was created.  She's discovered a creation error in my gene coding.  A critical error. She wants me to call her.

I'm freaked.

She's given me a list of instructions with requests for documentation and records and things that she wants me to do if I don't wish to endure a horrifying death.  She refused to go into details, just said that my family did not deserve to see me die like that.  That I should comply for their sakes.  If I do as she wishes then she will work on a treatment plan for me.

I asked her why she needed me to do things: things, like suceed in my chosen career or to maximise my skills.  She replied that it would be the proof that They needed to show that clones were more than base animals, that clones could live productive, happy lives and succeed in their endeavours.  They would fund her research into the treatment if I complied.

I value this life that she has let me have but I don't really want to be outed, to be discovered for what I am, for my family to face the shame of my origins.  I'd prefer the death in anonimity. All death is hard on the families left behind, if it were to be discovered just what I am, then my family's life would change, irrevocably, for the worse.

Then she gave the clincher.  She is certain that the gene error will be passed down to my children and my children's children. The first born of each generation will be affected. I must send a dna sample to her.  I may be brave enough to face a painful end but I'm not brave enough to even contemplate the thought of my child's suffering.

I agree to comply. She thanks me. She says that she will start work at once.  She tells me that They will thank me too and that one day, down the line, sims like me will be free to reveal their origin.

Sims like me.

That phrase is almost more reward for my compliance than the thought of the cure for my child.

First Mortal - One and One Makes Three

Klonah lives in Sunset Valley with her boyfriend, Dustin. They are expecting their first child. Klonah has just discovered that there are certain things that she needs to do if she doesn't want her unborn child to die.

Most of Klonah's worries seem to vanish when she looks into Dustin's eyes.  The love and approval in them helps seal over the cracks of worry.

Plus, Dustin asks such wonderful questions.

Ah but how she loves this man.

Catching a glimpse of sadness on Klonah's face, Dustin worries that the fast engagement and quiet marriage, planned for later that day, will not fulfil her childhood fantasies of her wedding day.  He promises her anything within his power to give and she requests a portrait of herself, so that she will remember how she felt as a young adult, on this day, forever. He agrees but hopes that he will paint joy in her eyes, not the anxiety and sadness that he can clearly see.

So, onto the big day, in their best clothes, in the open air kitchen with the flowers

and with these rings...

Dustin doesn't need to learn how to kiss the bride.

He does need to learn how to paint, though.  His first attempt at a portrait is a disaster.  He quits his job and works hard at fulfilling his promise to his bride.

Dustin hasn't yet achieved the skill to paint a portrait when the night comes.

The night of the arrival.

It's just after Dustin has persuaded her to get changed and goes off to hail a taxi that Klonah realises, with shock that she can't go to the hospital, she has a faulty gene, what if they discover it? What if they discover... then it's too late. No more time to worry.  A strange calm falls over her.

Aww, nooboo!

Welcome little nooboo.
I love the story behind your immortal dynasty; that there's a reason why she's doing this.

Thank you.  Like you, I also have to have a reason in my head as to why it is happening - the way you did it in your Copernicus Dynasty was excellent, I loved Grim's 'chat' with Mercury. I'm possibly a wee bit sad as I tend to have, in my head, a kind of back story for each new sim, that sort of explains why they have no family, friends, etc., when I first plonk them down into their new neighbourhood.  For some reason, for me at least, it makes the game more enjoyable.

Well, as The Sims Medieval has still not arrived, I've got a further update.   :(

I always have a story for my sims too. Before I started the Immortal Dynasty Challenge, I was playing a file for fun. Holly Alto was my co-founder, and I was 9 generations down the line. I had a story for every single person involved in my sims families. Even one that grew up to have three different wives had motives that no other sims could see - so it's not just you that plans these things out to make it more enjoyable :D

First Mortal - The Pace of Paint

Klonah Vacklone lives with her husband, Dustin in Sunset Valley.  Their first child has just been born and Klonah has to live with the fear that her child will die.  She cannot share her fears with her husband, so she worries alone and hopes that she will fulfil the conditions necessary to affect a cure to the faulty gene.

Klonah is surprised at the depth of love that she feels for this little girl.

She's sure, from the smile on the baby's face, that her daughter reciprocates that love.  Dustin tells her that it is just gas but she knows otherwise. A mother does.

Klonah tries not to worry that the discolouration on little Endevar's head and arm is a sign of the faulty gene.

Time passes.  Dustin paints.  Endevar breathes, cries, laughs and grows.  Klonah frets.

All too soon, it is time for Endevar's birthday. Klonah's thoughts stray to her own upcoming transition to adulthood.

The little family gather to greet the new todder.

Totally adorable.  Or at least her daddy thinks so.

Klonah starts to begrudge the time that Dustin spends away from his easel, whilst bonding with his daughter.  She often caught Endevar staring at her...

as if she knew that something was wrong.

It was with a heavy heart that Klonah greeted her transition to adulthood.

There was no portrait.  The pace of paint was just too slow.  She had failed and in so failing, she'd condemned her darling daughter to an early death.

Poor little sim, who so wants to be 'normal' and accepted. She doesn't seem to realise that most sims die and that death is always horrible for those left behind.  She doesn't realise that she was being manipulated, that the aim was for her and her descendents to be immortal, that she has no faulty gene and that the geneticist and They were not trying to make the future brighter for clones.

Perhaps I should call her up and let her know?  Help stop her worrying unnecessarily for the rest of her life, so that she can enjoy the life that she will have - for she will have one - in Sunset Valley with Dustin, Endevar and any future children.

Intermission

Partial transcript of telephone call between She, the geneticist and They:

.
.
.

She:  The failure is confirmed. Klonah was unable to acquire a portrait of herself before her transition to adult. Maybe the conditions are too hard...

They: Rubbish, others have suceeded. It is imperative that we have more complete dynasties. Try again. This time, tell it the conditions before its release.

She: Shall I explain about the dynasty and the immortality? Do you think that will help with the motivation to complete the conditions?

They: No, it may blab. Use more direct cohertion this time.

She: Sir?

They: Tell it that unless it completes the conditions, it willl be returned to the lab.

She: Understood.  *sounds of paper rustling* About the next clone: I was considering using the clone created from the DNA swab we received from Endevar, Klonah's child. Shall I send the file across for approval?
.
.
.

Photo from file:

Excert from email between They and She:

...Agreed. Set her up in Riverview...

Sorry to hear you didn't get the portrait on time. I like the way you've carried the story on though, and I'm looking forward to the continuation :)
