I do think a lot of folks who don't have it and buy that basically empty box are going to be really annoyed though.

A lot of people I know who play are ticked. These are people who don't visit the online stores or post in the forums. Several of them visited just to redeem their code and now the town won't install or show up in game.

I've heard the complaints about the game not installing, too.  Aside from the marketing concept and all that business, having the game not load is a big problem!

I can only imagine the angry calls after not having the game load. What I'm not understanding is why they just didn't splurge and have the town burnt to a CD anyway.

I'm guessing that's why it costs $10 less than your typical stuff pack.  What I'm wondering about is why the codes aren't working?  Really, it can't be that difficult to set up or fix.  People shouldn't still be having that problem.

They told my friend Tears of Jade to "Wait until the next patch and try installing again". EA support for the win huh? Anyways, actually at my local Walmart Barnacle Bay is priced the same as all the stuff packs.

Well, if they patched regularly, I would say that this is a good fix.  But with the current frequency of the patches?  That could be a long time for someone to wait to use something they've already spent money on.  But my guess is that if they told her that, there's a patch planned soon.

Another patch can be great. Hopefully they'll remember us Mac folk a bit. I have a few bugs that get really old quick.

I bought Barnacle Bay at the store and it didn't work, I used EA's online chat tech service and the tech person gave me a coupon for 20 dollars and I had to buy 2000 simpoints to buy Barnacle Bay. I wouldn't recommend the store bought version of Barnacle Bay at all, I put the code it and it said it had been used, but it wasn't in my purchase history, like it was suppose to be. But at least I have it now. If Tears Of Jade wants to I would recommend just going online are calling EA and telling them, most of the time they will think of something to resolve the issue. You could tell them about what I had to do as well. ;D

What I don't get is there's a lot of people out there that buy these games that don't have internet access. I know quite a few people myself. They buy games so they have something to do on their computers when they can't afford the internet. Well how's that going to work if you buy Barnacle Bay at the store expecting to get a disk to download the town and they give you a code to go on the internet with? Just doesn't make any sense.

I had this exact thought about it.  And really, I didn't think anyone who hadn't already bought it would buy it knowing they'd have to download it anyways.  But some people have bought it, and I have to wonder exactly how many of them did so thinking there was a disc in the package.

Well she did talk to them. I was sitting across from her studying when she talked to them. :) They told her to wait for a new patch. None of her sims3pack files will install and show up in game. We've tried everything to get it to work.

I don't see how they can get away with that.  Bugs and glitches in the game are one thing:  from what I understand it's a very complicated gaming system so I'll even say that bugs are to be expected.  But people have bought an empty box under the impression that they were, indeed, going to get something by doing so.  EA is basically telling them that they'll get what they paid for whenever they get around to giving it to them.

And how hard could something like this really be to fix.

She's very frustrated. Basically if it's in a .sims3pack file. It will download, install, but not show up in the game. I've read this story over and over so many have had it. I don't have a clue how to fix it.

You'll be surprised, but I am having the same problem with Riverview and a bunch of clothing. It's probably because I have LOTS of other official custom content in my game (mostly free items :P ). I had no problem with Barnacle Bay, though, but the fact that I installed it earlier than trying Riverview, is the case. Although, I've not been impressed by this town. Just a nice town, nothing special, of course, except of the Pirate's Hideaway and the Caliente household. So Tears of Jade hasn't lost much. :)
