Frequent Crashes
« on: March 07, 2011, 06:35:15 PM »
Hey guys,

Lately my game has decided it wants to crash on me. I have tried removing the old Sims 3 folder and letting the game create a new one then putting my saves back in. It reduced the crash time from every 10 minutes to 30 minutes. And Naga had sent me a suggestion about turning off DEP but that apparently only works on Windows and I have a macbook pro.
I don't use any mods, the only CC I have is a mixture of store clothing, some objects and accessories. I also took out any CC that I had gotten right before it started crashing.
I am trying to play through my dynasty but it's really hard to get through it with it crashing unexpectedly, this same thing began to happen with my last dynasty as well. After the last dynasty crashed I re-installed everything again and apparently it did not fix whatever is happening.
I never had this much trouble with crashing on my old macbook, and I would have thought getting a new one would make everything even better.
So, I'm just wondering if someone has a different suggestion for me to try. Thank you :)

Kattiq, I don't know how far along you are in your dynasty, but a lot of people - myself included - have had problems in the later generations as the game file got bigger and bigger.  In my Clan Douglas Dynasty, I got rid of a bunch of unnecessary items like the big fish tank, etc - that seemed to help a bit.  At the end, I didn't allow myself to add anything new to the lot.  Anytime a new museum sculpture or painting needed to be added, I found something I could delete.  I can't say for sure if all this helped, but when I took these steps the game stopped crashing, so it might be worth trying.  And be sure to save often.  Maybe someone else will have other ideas.  Good luck.

Thanks! Yeah I need to definitely cut down on the amount of stuff I have going on in the house. I guess I just didn't think that was what the problem was because the game was not sluggish at all while I played.
Could I possibly be allowed to delete some vacant houses and stuff that I am not using in the world so I could cut down on the file size? I know I'm not allowed to edit town unless I am adding in Late Night features.

You'd need to ask that question in the Immortal Dynasty thread, but my guess would be that it wouldn't be allowed.  I don't know if deleting off-lot stuff would make a difference or not anyway.  My feeling is, it just seems inevitable that the game files get big and unwieldy near the end of the dynasties.  Which is one of the reasons it's a major achievement to actually complete one!   ;D  If it makes you feel any better, my dynasty was taking over 3/4 of an hour to load near the end.  And I have a good computer that normally doesn't have any trouble with my games.

Holy cow! That's a long load time. Well the thing is I haven't even gotten to the 2nd immortal yet so I'm not even close to the end yet! I do however have 7 people living in the huge house I made for them.  I'm going to go in later and delete some objects-- maybe even their pool?

@kattiq:

No, you won't be able to delete vacant houses in a Dynasty file.  Besides, those houses will be needed for townies later in the game.

I suggest you try the clean up steps in this thread:  What to do if your game slows down.  Also, when was the last time you did a complete reinstall of the game?

Okay Thanks. I already follow the guidelines in that thread too. I think my last reinstall was in the middle of January.

If it keeps happening in spite of the other clean up work you do, it may be time for another clean reinstall.

Yeah, I'm thinking about doing it again now. I just have not had time too yet.
Thanks for your suggestions!
