Will the game turn the Sims you make into vampires
« on: March 05, 2011, 03:06:34 PM »
The game has a nasty habit of turning perfectly innocent townies into vampires.  Will it also turn Sims you have made into vampires if you populate the town with them, (to avoid the vampire thing), or will it leave them alone?  I figure if I populate the town sufficiently it will hopefully stop filling my town with vampires.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

I don't know for sure, but I would say probably.  If story progression is on, any sim not controlled by you is fair game.

Thanks, Hos.  That is NOT the answer I had hoped for.  lol  So I'm going to do a separate town, delete every townie that turns, and fill in with my own characters and watch to see what happens.

You can't overcome it, unfortunately. The game will just regenerate new vampires, or make the new Sims you populate the town with into vamps. There's absolutely no way. At least that's what I've read.

Only solution I can think of is uninstalling Late Night. :-\

Joria, have you tried turning off story progression?  I don't know if that would keep the vampires at bay, but it might be worth trying.  Otherwise, I'm afraid Simstar is right - the only way to ensure a vampire-free game is to uninstall LN.

That works indeed Schipperke. Vampirism is in fact a part of the story progression so turning it off stops spreading the virus.
But isn't there any poison or something like back in The Sims 2 Nightlife that can cure vampirism? I'm almost sure there is, but now there still isn't popping up any picture in my mind I have doubts.

If you want to cure your vampire, go to the Science Facility and pay 3,000 simoleons. This will cure vampirism. But be sure that you're going to encounter a number of bugs with that Sim. I've heard of players being stuck at the same skill level for weeks, just because of curing the Sim. So be careful.  :)

Yeah, but that has to be YOUR vampire, not a townie turned vamp.  I like the idea of turning story progression off.  I've deliberated the idea of the no LN but honestly I like the other goodies that came with it too much to do that.  Sure wish EA had given us a choice as to whether someone could/would become a vampire instead of just randomly turning folks.

Thanks for all the help you guys.  You are all so awesome.

@Joria:

I know you have a strong dislike for the vampires and probably haven't played much with them around.  It's really not very hard to just ignore them.  They aren't much different from any other Sim around town.  They just look different.  They don't approach your Sim and try to drink or anything.  At least not that I've seen.  They act like any regular townie Sim except they are prone to dying at any time because they don't have sense enough to eat a plasma fruit.  I'm playing my first vampire family right now, mostly to do testing.  The only difference for me as a player is that they have to drink plasma juice or eat plasma fruit instead of regular meals, and I have to be careful about taking them out in the daytime.  It's mostly just a nuisance because they can get a whopping -50 moodlet for 3 days if they stay outside too long.  Other than that, they are just Sims with some extra stuff they can do (read minds, skill super fast, etc.).

If you try turning off story progression, I hope you'll let us know how it turns out.  I uninstalled LN because I didn't like the celebrity thing, but if turning off story progression can stop vampires from turning up in the game it might work for celebrities as well - I could reinstall LN and my sims could have bands again.  :)

I like the idea of turning story progression off.

Be warned that if you turn story progression off, it would probably be a good idea to turn of aging as well.  With story progression off, the existing townies will not reproduce and no new townies will move in.  But they will continue to age and die of old age.  After a few generations, you could very well discover that not only is your town devoid of vampires, but it is devoid of townies as well.
