Legacy Challenge Questions
« on: March 05, 2011, 12:17:53 PM »
Okay I know this probably is somewhere in the Legacy Sims 3 forums thread. However there are 300 some odd pages....can I pick your brains for some wisdom?

My legacy town I've chosen is Barnacle Bay however when it says buy a lot worth 14,700..how? Empty lots don't count that much! Also is it okay I edit the town to include Ambitions community lots and Late night lots? I may have more questions but I have a story cooking in my head and I'm anxious to get started

The idea is that you buy the largest lot possible to reduce your funds and make room for the future house, since Pinstar has not updated those rules since the game was realeased and BB does not have the 60x60 lot of SV or RV, you could use the World Editor to place one or just use the familyfunds cheat to bring your cash down to what it would be on the large lot. You don't have to follow the rules exactly, I don't, I just follow the principles of the no cheats and no moving and the get to Generation 10. You can place any Ambitions Lots or Late Night that are not placed automatically, but be aware that the LN lots will be horrificly placed! They are built for Bridgeport alone it seems as they have really bad Lot Sizes.

Oh yeah I know. It took me hours to create a little night area in Riverview! Late night lots aren't friendly to previously existing towns. Mine will probably be modified to fit the story of this gal in my head.

I know for the Immortal Dynasty, you have to buy 1 Channel Trowler 27" Deluxe TV and 2 36" HiFi Plasmondo TVs from Landgraab Industries and leave them in your inventory for the duration of the challenge for that lot in Barnacle Bay.  That will bring your funds down to exactly $1,800, which is what you'll have left after buying the large lots with scenic vistas in Sunset Valley or Riverview.

Put simply Nicky, buy the larget plot of land there is (consult the Dynasty Rules for the lot if you need to.).
Open the cheat console (Yeah, I know, the rules, this is an exception)
Type testingcheatsenabled t
Press enter.
Open the Cheat console.
Type familyfunds NAME 1800
Press enter.
Open the cheat console.
Type testingcheatsenabled f
Press enter.
You have the funds required.

For your second question, ask yourself this question:
Do I need these lots? Are they part of the gameplay? If I were Pinstar, what would I say?
If you answer Yes to 2 or more of your questions, then place them.

Also, if you want to know, Vampires are allowed, should you feel they are part of the gameplay.

I don't know if vampires would be allowed or not.  Pinstar doesn't give any indication in his rules.  If it were me, I'd play without them because they drastically change the life of Sims.  We don't allow vampires in the Immortal Dynasty Challenge.

With the current glitch revolving around the unrealistically skewed learning rates of sims that are born vampires, I can say with all certainty that if Pinstar was still updating his rules, they would not be allowed.  The entire reason he came up with the Legacy Challenge in the first place was for it to be a challenge.  Being able to max almost any skill in a matter of seconds is not exactly a challenge.

If you can't target a sim as a founder's spouse if that sim shows up in the founder's relationship panel as "rich," (and originally, you couldn't target a rich sim for any generation's spouse) why would you think he'd approve of a sim maxing every skill but fishing, gardening and martial arts before they become a teen?  Likewise, eating Ambrosia and Life Fruit are both banned, so it would be quite reasonable to believe that any other method for extending a sim's life would be banned as well.

I know it doesn't mean anything about the Legacy Rules if a random person says it on the official forum, but someone posted that if you think Vampires should be allowed, then they are.

Slightly Off topic here:

By Fishing, Gardening and Martial Arts, are those the skills that Vampire Teens, Children and Toddlers learn slowly as opposed to freakishly fast? If so, Cooking too.

I was assuming that Gardening and Martial Arts can not be done by Children but Fishing can so I don't know. I guess it depends on how you want to play, you could have a Vampire but would it be worth them living for ever when their family die or not die? It would be a very long Legacy if you played Vampires.  ;)

Yep, 105 days as YA, 105 days as Adult. That would take unimaginably long time... Just imagine, your first gen is still alive (as a vampire), while your third generation is already an Elder. That's the whole point of the Legacy challenge: continue the game with a new Sim each time. What would be the point in having a single Sim to focus on while neglecting the new Sims, and calling it a 'Legacy'?

Those are the ones I've discovered, yes.  My 2nd gen vampire is growing fruit for Mixology (and plasma fruit for obvious reasons), and is now a young adult and has just maxed gardening (she's kept a gigantic garden since she was a teen), and fishing is about level 6.  Athletics trains slow via martial arts equipment, too, but it can be maxed nearly instantaneously with an exercise machine.  Her martial arts skill is still at a 3 though, and she could have maxed a dozen skills in the amount of time it took to get that.

However, I hadn't tried cooking, since it's somewhat close to wasted effort once they grow up lol.  They can cook some dishes with plasma fruit, but non-vampy sims can't eat it without throwing up (not everyone in the household is a vampire).

Sorry for the off-topic, as I'm sure TheChronicR is too.  ;)
