Butler won't sleep!
« on: March 03, 2011, 10:20:23 PM »
Please help me out. I hired a butler, set a bed for her and she won't sleep. I dismissed her and re-hired her and she still won't sleep. Should my sim command her to sleep? there is no option for that. Please help. Thanks!

Your butler will sleep when they are tired, perhaps they just aren't tired enough yet.  When I hired a butler they came at 10pm, at that point his energy bar was probably still pretty full because he didn't go to sleep till 3am.

So I guess my question is, how long has your butler gone without sleep?

Two days. Then she kept showing the moodlet for the bed or sleepy. But she won't go to sleep. So I dismissed her. Hired another, same butler, and she's still not sleeping. so I'll just let them collapse on me? LOL I don't want them to think my sim is a cruel slave driver. The paps might make a tabloid story out of that LOL

Welcome to our Forum, Dollkey.  My current butler sometimes doesn't sleep, either.  He stayed up long enough this last time that he passed out on the floor.  He was drinking coffee at the time and they can't sleep until the buzz crashes.

Do you have a bed assigned to the butler?  She needs her very own bed and you have to click on it to assign it to her.

It may just be some weirdness that I encounter occasionally with NPC's.  I had a sim in Bridgeport marry her maid, and his energy bar never decreases.  He still has to eat, shower, use the bathroom, etc, but he hasn't slept in nearly 3 game weeks.

Oh, yes.  Butlers can be female.  I don't like them, though, because they wear black gloves as part of their uniforms.  It makes me think she doesn't want to touch anything with her bare hands, including the babies.

I have the exact same problem. Hired a butler, assigned him a room (complete with bed, chair and tv), but he won't sleep. I've seen him take naps on the bed, but he never gets under the covers. And he's collapsed out of exhaustion at least once. Also, he doesn't seem to do any cleaning or laundry (just food and kids)... maybe he's too tired?

Oddly, my butler isn't doing laundry, either.  He'll pick clothes up off the floor, but he won't take them to the washer.  I have one of my Sims start the laundry, then the butler finished it.  He won't do it from the start, though.

We have limited experience of butlers, but the same household is now on its third one.  We don't track them very closely, but they certainly seem to be quite different.  Let me elaborate a bit more:

Butler 1 [Nicholas Raison?].  He had a bad attack of the cooking fetish [especially Key Lime Pie], unlike his successors.  He tended to wander off and watch TV, make himself a drink from the bar, get in the hot-tub, put himself to bed in a sarcophagus ... and he didn't always get round to making the beds [there are 4 bedrooms, each with a double bed].  Eventually we decided he should move on ...

Butler 2 [Danette ****].  She was very good at cleaning and tidying, and kept the cooking to sensible levels.  In fact she was so nice that Farouk Al-Jezeera, the head of the household, decided to take her as his wife.  After much courtship [i.e. stopping Danette getting on with her work] the bells rang and she is now the mistress of the house [and has joined the Police career].

Butler 3 [ummmm ... Butler 3].  He's a bit different again.  Cooking is much more varied [nice], cleaning and bed-making only reasonable - but he does unclog toilets!  We've only had him for 3 Sim days, so we're having to keep an eye on his performance!

........

The sleeping issue is interesting.  From what I've seen, the butler won't go to bed if there is work to do.  So, having 6 members of Al-Jezeera household [Sa'id the explorer married Nui Tai, the Chinese paparazzi  ;)] there are 6 people using the various toilets/baths all the time, and getting up at all hours of the day/night.  [All 4 house bedrooms are en-suite, and there are 3 more toilets/showers on the ground floor ... oh and another in the cellar where the exercise machines live].  So there's a LOT of cleaning up to be done, spread all over a large house. That means [in software terms, I guess] that the butler has to go and attend to those items.  No wonder they sometimes fall asleep on the floor ... and then 15-30 minutes later have to get on with their jobs again  :o  Is all work that worth §1,500 a week?

My butler, Bertram Plunkett, wasn't sleeping much until he took a fancy to the Star Trailer.  I couldn't have that, so put the trailer in the family inventory.  He was barely sleeping again.  (I have him as a butler in two different games, in one he has an enormous apartment by the garage, with all the amenities.  In the other he has a small room by the chimney, with bed, bedside tables, comfy chair, dresser, mirror, a painting, and a small TV.  In neither case was he a big sleeper).

Then I noticed he seemed fond of grabbing a quick drink from the juice bar, so I gave him his own juice bar, in the game where he has the small room that he barely used (but not yet in the game where he has the huge apartment that he doesn't use much).  He sleeps in his little room by the chimney now!  It may well be a fluke, but I'm going to see what happens if I put a juice bar in his apartment in the other game.
