Time machine- a new way to parenthood?

My Sim William was a proud bachelor, newly grown from teen to young adult. We had a time machine on the lot and I decided he would pursue that path- the one of the Time traveler and adventurer. Well, on his fourth run-about he came back with a boy, who looked oddly like him. His name was Tom. I am still flabbergasted as to what exactly happened.

William was a product of two happy parents and his son is just as handsome as he is. I can see a clear pattern on heartbreakers here . Is it possible that because he is Family-oriented, hopeless romantic, great kisser, brave and adventurous that he ended up with a son in the end? I hope that one could be checked.

So what do you people think? Please share your thoughts :>

Secondly, yes, it is possible to get children from the Time Machine occasionally. I've never got one, though. But, from people's posts, I figured out that you're usually getting notified by the game if you get a kid. It has nothing to do with traits, it's random. Here's what I've found in the Sims Wiki section for the Time Machine.

It's possible for Sims to meet their previous selves and/or previous companions, and tell them to stop fighting and focus on love and family. If this happens, a Sim may suddenly have a child, but the child will only have one parent.
Occasionally, traveling to the past will result in a message about the Sim using the machine having saved a child in front of his or her past self. This results in a new child being added to the household.

Though, the info on Sims Wiki is not reliable, and can be edited by any simmer, without a reference. You may want to re-check yourself.

While it's true that wiki is the most fallible source of information on the internet, I can confirm this little nugget as fact.  But even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.

The new child is not always a child.  The last two I had added to a family came in as young adults.  Other than those two, I have had three other children added to a family that were actually child-aged.

So, is it possible to get a sim that is a carbon copy of my own sim? From what I understand it may be totally possible, as the child is a carbon copy of the (now) parent. The traits were completely different though.

As far as I know, yes, it is possible. Traits are random at all times.

It doesn't have to be a carbon copy. My male sim came home with a daughter from the time machine (and she's very pretty, but sadly, her younger half sister - the legitimate heiress - is just gorgeous).

The two ways I've gotten time machine children is either saving an orphan from being run over, or my sim getting into an argument about the importance of children while in the past, and one of the children listening comes home with them.

Some day, I will work on a Lineage that involves the heirs having to be time machine babies.

Thanks again to all of you guys and girls replying to my first thread! I still amaze myself at the genius of some of the things that I keep stumbling into with the game. I've been playing the game for a long time and right about now is probably the first time ever I try to actually get anywhere with a legacy. I am at generation three right now and the house is big enough for a few. I am weary to use the time travel machine again so soon. Knowing my luck, I will end up with something unusually rare and just as annoying as it is rare.

Welcome to the forum Fiarella, what a wonderfull name is that! Spanish maybe?

Everything is indeed random according to the time machine. I even got a omni plant seed, which was very welcome as my game is bugged on getting omni plants through the mailbox.
My sim also got 5 children back from the past, future or something in between. Not all at once of course, but after (what shall it be?) 100 travels he must have been quite 'busy' in every century he has visited.

Thanks to the welcome ! Yes, it is with Spanish origins, but I prefer it to the original Fiorella which means flower or something. Right now my time traveling has been cautiously suspended, before things get too out of hand.

Not to worry:  gaining children through the time machine is relatively rare.  Of course, the more often you do it, the better your chances.

Oddly enough, if you get a kid by traveling to the future, they're always an elder lol.

The Spanish word for flower is flor. In what language Fiorella is flower I can not tell.
About your time traveling experiences, have you already tried to travel through a masterfully created time machine? The outcome may differ from the normal machines.

Fiorella is a female Italian name, and it means "little flower" to be exact.  I'd imagine that Fiarrella means the same thing, however I don't really know since I don't speak Spanish lol.
