Sims Genes
« on: February 27, 2011, 05:32:28 PM »
Hey I was wondering if you guys notice that when you play a sim that has a distinct physical feature such as a certain eye or hair color, has it been passed around through the generations?

For example, red hair seems to be a prominent feature in my sims family. I'm currently playing a sixth and seventh generation of my family. My sim heir married a sim who had red hair during the third generation. They had four children and only one child had red hair. The heir that I chose didn't have red hair, however, that heir had twin girls and one had red hair. When I moved out the twin that had red hair, she had two girls that had red hair as well. And so ever since then, there would always be a sim that had red hair connected to my family bloodline.

I also experimented with another sim that had a distinct feature. I created a woman that had pink and white hair and moved her into town. I had one of my members of the family marry her and give him the fertility treatment so that he would have many children with her to see if the pink hair or red would appear(this sim had red hair). Together they had six children. Of all the children, one had red hair and the youngest had the pink hair like her mother. I had the girl who had the pink hair married back into my main family( I guess this was possible because they were distant relatives). Together, they had two children, a son with pink hair and a daughter with red hair. What was interesting is when the daughter grew up, she married a sim who had brown hair. They ended up having a son with pink hair and twin girls with red hair. The son who I chose as a heir has four girls from two women and not one has any red hair. He currently married a woman with brown hair and she is now pregnant. I'll keep you guys posted to see the outcome lol

When I create a sim, I tend to give them at least one highly distinctive feature, so I have noticed this quite a lot.  I've even seen this distinctive trait skip a generation.

Yes, the genes of the Sims definitely get passed down.  Sometimes I get a random hair or eye color that didn't come from anyone in the family, but usually I can tell where it came from.

I have a question on genetics. If a Sim is born overweight, but then become thin, which will impact their baby? Also, what about the new LN sliders, are muscle and breast sizes just random, or also genetic?
Thanks :)

The weight of the child comes from the genes of the parents at conception.  For example, if the mother is heavy and loses weight before getting pregnant, the child will have the thin genes.  Then if that same mother gains the weight back, the child will have the heavy genes.  I experimented with exactly this thing with one of my families awhile back.  It was pretty interesting.  Same thing with a muscular build.

I think the sliders are also genetic, but I can't say for certain.  I have a large breasted Sim right now (Forest's wife) who is having a lot of kids, so I'll be able to find out when the girls reach Young Adult.

Forest's oldest (Buttermilk) is a teen and I can already say that she has indeed inherited her mother's bustiness.  I hadn't actually looked until I answered your question.  ;D

My teenage vampire twins in one of my games, have actally inherited their mothers bustiness.  I was shocked at how large they were, even as teenagers.  I don't even make them that big, but I guess the game had other ideas, lol. :)

I get this sometimes for some reason. The game throws in random genes, but in legacies the random genes are usally just second and third generation for me.  :)

Ya I've noticed that too about parents passing on physical size to their kids. That's why I like them to get them in shape before they have a baby lol

I'm getting Forest and Seraphina to work out on the weight machine to see how muscular the next baby will be.

Do genes affect a sim's ability to gain weight?

I'm playing a townie right now who's skinny nearly to the point of being emaciated, so I been having her over-eat to try to get her to put on a little weight.  And by over-eat, I mean she prepares a group meal of mac and cheese, eats it herself in 1 sitting, then washes it down with two containers of ice cream.  She hasn't gained so much as an ounce.  Now I know that losing weight doesn't take any time at all...but how long should it take to gain weight?

It takes me 3 or 4 Sim days of overeating before it shows up as weight gained.  However, just like overweight Sims, underweight Sims will quickly revert back to their normal state of you don't continue with the exercise/overeating.  You can also get a Body Sculptor and have her get bigger.

My sim married a townie but I forgot what his job was. When they had a children, the children had a hidden trait to burn things. That trait has been passed down to the 7th generation. Its pretty cool.

I think the townie would have had to have been a firefighter to get the arson trait.
