No longer a vampire, now a problem with skills
« on: February 27, 2011, 05:06:38 PM »
Okay so I was playing a vampire sim and I wanted to change her back to a human so I did. Now I can't seem to get certain skills to go up no matter what. Her guitar skill, won't go up. I can have her playing her guitar all day but the little bar above her head doesn't move an inch. Same thing with her Mixology bar. What am I doing wrong?

Now this is even weirder. I had her take a writing class and she completed it but no skill came up in the skills panel telling me she was now at a skill 1 in writing. I tried moving her, selling her guitar stuff like that. Now I'm going to try turning her into a vampire again and see if that fixes it.

Edit: Turning her back into a vampire didn't work either. I've found that it's all of her skills too. None of them will go up. She can read books though and that bar goes up. Can anyone help? Offer advice or should I just scrap the game and start over:(. Which I really don't want to but if nothing else guess I will have to.

Just to check - have you tried to reset the sim? And quit the game and restart? I don't know for sure that those will help, but between those two things, they get rid of a lot of weird behavioral quirks.

I'm having this problem with a Sim, too! I changed him back to human, and now he can't learn the writing skill... nor can he take a class in the writing skill although he seems to be able to take classes in the other skills. Urgh.

ETA: And yes, I've tried resetting the Sim and switching households.

I occasionally have issues with sims not being able to train skills.  Well, training isn't so much the problem:  they can train them just fine, they just don't learn anything by doing it.  Even after sending them to take a class, they're still at 0 progress.  However, these sims are not former vampires...they're brand new sims out of CAS, or townies in a fresh town.  But, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, chances are good that it's a duck.  So I wonder if these situations are somehow related.

Personally, I've never unvamped a sim.  So I'll ask any of you who have:  does this happen every time?  Obviously this doesn't happen every time with new sims or townies in a new game.  I can exit without saving and start over, using the same sim, and it won't happen the next time or the time after that (occasionally it has happened a couple of times in a row).  So saving before drinking that little potion might be a good habit to start getting into.

However, I've never been able to find a way to fix my problem once it manifests.

No. I've unvamped many Sims, and so far it's only happened to one.

So this glitch is most likely related to the one I've experienced, and saving before drinking the potion could very well help people to avoid it.  ;)
