Launcher not working properly after patch
« on: December 21, 2009, 03:49:49 PM »
Okay, so my sims 3 launcher would work fine whenever I would use it. But then, after patch 1.8, sometimes it wont close at all! I have had to log off and then back on just for it to close down. I was okay with it, for it didn't bug me much. But then, I went to play a family of mine for a challenge.

After a while, I then tried to open the launcher, so I could get to the internet to check something, while the game was running. I'm sure some people have done this than just going and saving and then coming back. Anyways, I didn't save the game. When I did try to open it, you could say the game kinda froze. I couldn't do anything with it! The only thing I could do was try ctrl+alt+del.

It worked, that's how I'm on here right now. But the problem is, the launcher that is up right now, is not wanting to close or do anything. And, If I try to get back to the game, the screen is just black. I'm not sure what to do at this point, for I'm not too great with a computer. So, right now, I'm wondering if anyone else has gone through this type of problem, aspecially after the latest patch. Also, what can I do to make it go back to the game, unfrozen if possible?

I've never recovered from one of those crashes. Once in a while while alt-tabbing it happens to me too.

I've had loads of those crashes (and the alt-tab ones) since installing the new patch. Why do we keep getting problems with the patches?! Very frustrating!
I've never recovered from them either - have had to always restart computer.

Well, I never recovered fully from one either. I can't remember how I did, but I had to force quit the game instead of just restarting the computer. Lost my family I was playing, though.

Ya know, I do think EA should make a patch for that next. Its quite amusing to me that they gotta make a patch for a patch. :P

I guess by now it would be a patch for a patch for a patch...

Anyway, regarding these problems with freezing. This used to happen to me once in a while but for quite a long time now I've been playing the game in a window rather than full-screen. I haven't had any freezing happen since I started doing that.

In addition to running the game I also have Firefox open (with about 20 tabs ::)), The Sims 3 Launcher, uTorrent, Thunderbird... several other things. I'll be writing emails, playing the game for a bit, posting to the forum, playing the game some more, putting files on my iPod, zipping around: No problemos.

Since the problem seems to be connected to Alt-Tabbing maybe this will work for someone else. You can toggle between windowed and full-screen mode somewhere in Options.
