Changing hairstyle for different outfits
« on: February 23, 2011, 08:13:37 PM »
I used to be able to change hairstyles for different outfits by double clicking on the hair.
But for the last month or so of playing, I haven't been able to do this anymore.

Is there another way to change it?
Or is there a known reason why it suddenly doesn't work?

Thank you.

The only way I know of changing hairstyles is by clicking on the lock in the hair area.  I think having the lock "locked" means same hair for every outfit and unlocked means different hair for each style.  Please correct me if I am wrong.

Put your sim in the outfit you want, click a mirror and choose "Change Appearance". Work yourself out with the lock/unlock system for the outfit, and click done. Change the outfit, and click the mirror again. Rinse, repeat.

Thanks heaps. I'm glad I'll finally be able to change it around again :)

Another way to do this that I like is by purchasing the styling station for your house, you can then do everything in one area.  Your able to change all clothing categories and hairstyles, makeup etc.  I hated having to change my sim outfit first then having to click on the mirror to change the hairstyle.
Also if you have guests over you can make them over while they are in your sim home.

Just remember you cannot use the styling station for makeovers when doing an immortal dynasty as it can make Sims younger.

I'm curious - How does the styling station make a Sim younger?  I haven't noticed anything like that when I click on my Styling station.

It resets the age of the sim to the start of the life cycle that they're in.
For example, if you sim is an elder and is 89 days old, it will reset back to 69/70 days old.

I'm not sure if it works on the styling station that you purchase, because I've never tried. But I'm not going to risk that in my dynasty game, so I won't be able to let you know, sorry.

Great idea!  I hated the run around you had to do to change things.  Still, can't use it in dynasty challenge but I can use it for regular sims.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

I've changed the setting to unlocked, but when I'm in CAS for clothing, I still can't change the hairstyle.
The only way for me to change it is by changing outfits, going to the mirror, changing outfits again, then going to the mirror again.

Is there any way to make it a quicker process?
Because I know that I used to do it by double-clicking the hair in "Plan Outfit".

Note: I've tried resetting the computer and the game.

I could have sworn also that when I first started playing sims a couple of years ago, I think before some of the EP's, I was also able to go into CAS and do everything at once, plan outfits and change hairstyles etc.for any/all occasions.  Now it's change outfit, then the mirror for hair, repeat. Really makes no sense to me why it's like this.  I would definitely prefer to do it all at once, I'm not playing a dynasty, so the styling station has been great for this reason.

A very interesting feature ... I must try that, as it could solve a couple of 'problems'.

From your comment above, do I understand the Sim has to go to the salon to achieve that?

I know it definitely happens at the salon (at least every time I've been in my game). I'm unsure about the styling station you buy at home, but from what I read, it's the same.

I've never changed the hairstyle while planning an outfit.  It might just be something I never thought to try.  However, I tried it today and couldn't do it.  So, it's either been changed or it was never really available.  Using the styling station at the salon, however, does do everything at once.  I haven't tried one at home.
