The Dwarf Dynasty + I'm Surrounded by Idiots Challenge in one
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:12:52 PM »
After hearing mention of the I'm Surrounded by Idiots Challenge on the Proposed Challenges board, I looked it up to see what it was.  Among others which have different variations of this basic theme, I found this site:  http://trishasims3.wordpress.com/2009/07/17/im-surrounded-by-idiots-challenge

It sounded like a fun idea, and one that would blend well with the dynasty.  I'm going to try mixing them in a way that will work well together.  My rules are going to follow the basic dynasty rules, with the additional limitations of only being able to control one "torch holder" Sim most of the time.  This should add additional challenge to the dynasty since I can only work on one person's ambrosia requirements at a time.  Also, I will have to make sure that the other immortals or soon-to-be immortals don't accidentally max a skill someone is supermaxing.  I will have to use item placement to accomplish this.  I will allow myself the following exceptions to this rule:  the founder's spouse will be controllable for their entire life.  Characters may also make ambrosia, eat ambrosia, make portraits/sculptures/pictures of the soon-to-be-immortals, and change their appearance using a mirror or dresser.  I may also allow non-torch holders one command per lifestage, like some of the variations of the I'm Surrounded by Idiots challenge do.  I'm also going to promise wishes for non-wish holders, but won't issue them commands to complete their wishes.  I will choose an option from the drop down menu for them if they are at work or school.

I'm looking forward to doing this.  It seems like it will be tricky, and I'm not even sure how realistic of a plan it is.  I only plan to spend an hour or so every weekday on this and nothing on the weekend, so it'll take me a while.  I'm going to use the ambrosia checklist and update links that Metro used in his dynasty if I can figure out how to do them, since I thought those looked great.  I also like the idea of having a spouse museum, like he did in his dynasty.  I'm giving my dynasty a snow white and the seven dwarves theme, and will try to give the dwarves an appropriate trait or two to go with their name.  I will be playing in Bridgeport since I've never played there before.

Well, here it goes...

Snow White arrives at her spartan new living accommodations.  She is looking forward to having someone to begin painting pictures using her new easel.  She heads out to meet an artist.

Snow White puts on the charm and proposes an hour or so later.  Harry happily accepts and they get married immediately.

The money that he brings to the family allows for the purchase of a refrigerator, counter, stove, and table with chairs.  They will continue living outside and sleeping on their cheap bed for now.  To remedy this problem, after making dinner Show White goes out and joins the culinary career while Harry begins learning to paint.  Show White then goes to the library and learns three levels of gardening, and buys some starting garden supplies.  She comes home and plants a tomato, lettuce, grape, and apple plant before collapsing into bed.

I really look forward to seeing how you get on.

I like the ISBI format. I think it makes for amusing play and I get to see my sims doing things autonomously that I would never think to direct them to do myself.

I've played this in both The Sims 2 and The Sims 3.  It's slightly easier to deal with in TS3 as the Sims aren't quite so stupid when left to their own devices - though they sometimes have their moments!

I like how your Snow White is dressed in a similar style to Walt Disney's Snow White.

I admire your ambition! I don't think I could ever do I'm Surrounded By Idiots - I'm a total micromanager - and the Dynasty challenge is rough enough on its own! Best of luck (and I also like your Snow White!)

Thanks for your comments.  It made me really happy to read them.

Bashful is Born

When Snow White wasn't at work, her main focus became improving her cooking skill.  Harry was always painting.

Snow White tried to trade kitchen secrets with her boss and co-workers so she could learn more recipes, but none of them were natural cooks!  Sometimes they had something to teach her, and sometimes they didn't.  At least she got to know them better when she invited them over.  Before long, she became best friends with all of them.

Snow White also made sure to spend the necessary time every day maintaining her garden.

Snow White and Harry began to feel the time ticking away.  They decided that they should go ahead and have a kid, so that they could be around for as much of their child's life as possible.

They had to try for a baby 5 times, but they didn't mind at all ;)  By the next evening, Snow White was showing her pregnancy and put on maternity leave.  She figured while she was on maternity leave, she would try to make some money while having fun at the same time.  You might think this would be hard to do, but Snow White found ways.  In the picture below she is dancing at The Brightmore, which she was paid to do.  I guess all the movement caused her to go into labor, because right after the picture was taken she started making painful noises and expressions.

She had to come back and finish her dancing time after the baby was born.  Since she wasn't pregnant anymore, she made sure to sample the drinks while she was there.

On the way out, she met a very strange looking paparazzi.

She was also paid to go try a drink at The Prosper Room, which was absolutely delicious.

But I skipped the most important part, the birth!  Here she is carrying her new baby, Bashful Dwarf, home from the hospital.  I also included an overhead picture of him in his crib, which was taken later.

Bashful's first traits are loner and artistic.  Hopefully he can take over for Harry since Harry won't be around forever. *sniff*  The real trick is going to be getting someone to do Bashful's elder portrait.  The adult portrait might be difficult as well.

Shortly after Bashful's birth, Harry managed to maximize his painting skill.  Between the money made from selling what he had already painted at the consignment shop, and the money that Snow White made from doing odd jobs while on maternity leave, they managed to upgrade their bed and bathroom, get some stereos, and move their place indoors.

They even gave Bashful his own room in hopes that he would be happier by himself.  Apparently, babies are too young to be loners, though.  Also, they seem to be more needy than previous sim babies, and need at least 5 snuggles to fill up their social bar.  They built a basement to start their immortal museum, and Harry painted a picture of Snow White to put in it.  Snow White also took a picture of Harry.  They're not sure yet how the museum will eventually look, but it would be nice to put pictures of the spouses next to their immortals.  Snow White took a picture of Harry and they added this to the museum, also.

Harry began his next task of figuring out how to take good pictures.  During the end of Snow White's maternity leave, he went around town, taking all sorts of pictures.  He doesn't have many ideas for more pictures at the moment, and he only has his photography skill up to 5.  Hopefully he can think of some more.  Not being able to travel and having no community garden limits the possibilities.

So far, Snow White has accomplished:
Unique Lifetime Reward:  Super Green Thumb
Unique Best Friends:  Odine Perry, Alexy Fresco, Harry Dwarf, Wayne Bumble
BlackOps:  Grape-Aid, Excellence You Can Taste
Portraits:  young adult

I'm not sure if the gamma on my monitor is set the way most people's is.  Can people please tell me which looks better on their monitor, the first or second picture?

I prefer the first picture. The second makes me feel like I should clean my glasses. :P

I actually find the second picture easier to see. The first one is really dark on my screen.

The first one is darker, but the second one is sort of film-like.

Great concept! I think the first one is easier to see. Yeah it's a little dark, but the second one looks like there is a film over it and makes it look weird. But welcome Bashful!  ;D
