Food Replicator?
« on: February 21, 2011, 01:58:02 PM »
I spent 50,000 lifetime rewards to get this thing. It's in my family inventory, but I can't place it anywhere. My Sims made a perfect Baked Angelfood cake and I wanted to replicate it. I tried to drag it to the inventory but couldn't. How do I use the replicator?

Hi debbie. Use the hand tool to grab it from Family Inventory and place it on an open space in your kitchen.

After placing the replicator in your kitchen. Grab the meal and point to the replicator (it's like a big vending machine), it will make a strange noise and glow and voila! You have two angel-food cakes! Good luck!

Ok, I tried using the hand tool and it did nothing. I deleted most things in the kitchen, thinking I needed more room, but that didn't work either. As a matter of fact, I can't get anything from my family inventory. I have beds, bookcases and what-not but I can't drag anything into my house. What's up?

You don't actually drag items from your family inventory.  Simply click on it to "activate" it and when you move the cursor into the game world, your cursor will be "holding" the item.  Then place it where you want it (reorienting it with the < >  keys), click again and it's placed.

You can even upgrade it with high enough handiness skill to have more storage space.

Well, don't I feel like a dunce!! I've been trying to drag it all this time. I'm going back into the game now and try again. Hopefully the game will be nicer to me now and not shut down again. That happened twice this morning. I want a new computer!!

Apparently something must be wrong with my game. When I click on the replicator, it highlights it but when I release the mouse button it is no longer highlighted. That's why I thought I had to hold the button down and drag it. I use to be able to get stuff out of the family inventory but it seems that after I installed Outdoor Living, it is no longer possible. I might be wrong about that but my game seems to crash more often now and things get corrupted (everything turns yellow). I really, really need (want?) that replicator!

Try buying it with another Sim, or a Sim in a new game. To get it quick:

1. Enter the game.
2. Wait till it loads the game menu (from where you create new files, or play saved games). Don't click on a file yet, and don't start a new game (yet)!
3. Click CTRL+SHIFT+C (without the +)
4. Type in the cheat box testingcheatsenabled true.
5. Click Enter.
6. Open a saved file or create a new game.
7. When the game loads the family, open the Lifetime Happiness Points tab of a Sim in your family.
8. Somewhere near the treasure box picture (I don't remember, but it's not hard to spot) click CTRL+CLICK. Each click adds 500 happiness points.
9. Click on it a few more times (actually 100 times!) until you have enough to buy the replicator, open the purchase window and buy it.
10. Try it this time to see if it's the same. Maybe it's just with that saved file, or Sim.

Sorry if you knew this before.  :)

No, I didn't know anything about this! Thanks. I'm printing this and going back in the game to try it.
I was going to uninstall ODL, but it said my other EPs may not work and something about updating the game online via the launcher. Don't know about that either so I backed out.

If your game crashes, it means you either have too little memory space left or if you use cc and mods, they're interfering now with your game. Normally, one should have an easy time taking out items from the inventory. Good luck! :)

Yes, I believe it's a memory problem. Would it help if I deleted old saved games that I no longer play?

What I did about the food replicator problem: I finally just saved my Sim to the library and moved her from Bridgeport to Sunset Valley and all is fine. Seems the problem was in the saved game. Thanks everyone!
