Which makes this one an excellent combination with a gardener sim.

@Alexandria_: Now you're busy with nectar making, why not maxing your sim also in gardening so the fruits are even tastier, in fishing so he can catch the best fertilizer, in inventing so he can make a masterfull collection sucker (forget the name) to do some easy fruitsucking, which is way faster than harvesting and in handiness so he can upgrade the sprinklers and the nectar machine?

Nectar making is my all time favorite skill in The Sims 3 and it actually made me drink wine in real life. I've made a farm in The Sims 3 just for making nectar with all it's benefits. I will upload it to the Swap Shop once my computer is connected again.
I will give it a try when I start a new game - I think if I did all those skills in my immortal dynasty challenge, there wouldn't be enough skills left for others to max :D

Well, two sims with the same skills can also be very practical. Specially if one of them doesn't have the time to do a thing so the other one can.

The only skill that would be vital for the nectar making sim to have in order to SuperMax nectar making would be gardener.  You can trade fish from the fisherman immortal to the nectar maker to use as fertilizer, the handy sim can upgrade the various objects on their behalf, and the inventor can build them a harvester.  And in reality, all that would be a whole lot of work for a single, non-vampire sim to do with the game time set on normal.

And if you're planning on using the harvester, make sure you make them a masterful harvester (done by completing the large invention challenge).  The regular one malfunctions far too often, and inflicts bad moodlets when it does.

I think you'll need another Sim or SimBot to get this working. If the particular Sim wants to concentrate only on Nectar Making, then marrying or (if you don't want that stuff) then, buy a SimBot as a Lifetime Reward.

I think it's for the Immortal Dynasty challenge, in which case a SimBot cannot live in the house.

Yes, it is for the dynasty challenge, so I won't be getting the simbot.
But thank you everyone for all your information - it's been extremely helpful. I think I will try and supermax nectar making for one of my immortals.

Sorry, I didn't know it was for your dynasty.
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

That's okay - I don't think I stated in my question that it was for the dynasty.
It's good to know all this stuff for when I play other games too.

At the moment I'm doing a mix of 3x Gralladina Fran, 2x Cherimola Blan, and 5x Cranerlet Nuala grapes that I call Vizard of Vine Nectar (yeah, not very imaginative huh? :D) but despite having gone over 500 bunches of fruit I still have no achievement.  I'm very sure I have gone over 400 bunches of grapes as I only made a couple of bottles of non-grape varieties for the quest in France.  All the grapes were planted and harvested by the nectar making sim and were grown at home, in France and in China (since there's only 2 days between travels and she has a visa level 3 in all cities, certificates of partnerships with all 3 cities, and the prepared traveller perk she spends more time abroad than at home.)  Could it be that the fruit has to be quite literally "home grown" as in grown at home and not abroad?

I'm not sure about that, geekgirl101. But I completed that challenge when my sim made nectar from home (All i know is it required 400 grapes only).

One of the challenges is somewhat bugged, but I don't believe it's that one.  I think it's the Mix Master challenge, but I'm not absolutely sure.  However, there are a host of bugs related to travel, so it's entirely possible that you're not getting credit for harvested grapes on trips.  Without keeping track of your statistics, there's no way to know for sure if this is what's happening.

I don't recall having trouble with Mix Master, but definitely having trouble with Vizard of Vine.  This is something I may have to test on another game with a sim who doesn't travel and see if she gets any success in the achievement.  Could take a while, might have to use cheats to speed stuff up a bit.

Well, so far I did an experiment with 2 sims called French Grape and Normal Grape.  No prizes for guessing who harvested what. :P

Anyways, I kept them both at home and boosted their nectarology and gardening skills to max.  Both of them crushed 400 grapes.  French Grape using a combination of cranerlet nuala, gralladina fran, and cherimola blan grapes got Vizard of Vine achievement.  Normal Grape didn't.

So for people doing immortal dynasty you're pretty much done there since you can't get the French grapes without travelling to France, unless you buy them in buydebug (which I dunno is allowed?)

Another test I did today was harvesting 400 grapes in France and crushing them all, and I got the Vizard of Vine achievement.  I repeated the same test only this time crushing 300 of them, then the next time I arrived in France I crushed the remaining 100, and this time I didn't get the achievement.

So you're right, travelling does reset the numbers.

Not necessarily, you can travel once your second generation becomes Young Adult, so you can pick Nectar making after that.

About that travelling reset, does that happen if any sim in the household travels (so if you change screens from your town to your vacation destination), or only when the sim doing the challenge travels?

Dunno, I'd have to test that.

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe that it only affects the sims if they travel.  Usually, if I'm going after the challenges I'm done with traveling.
