You got the maids? I got Adam Anderson (the fireman) to offer to clean up. Maybe it was because of the fires those meteors produced.

Did your meteors start a fire?

With the "meteor shower" challenge there's no fires started.  All that really happens is that there are a bunch of space rocks laying about the house and yard, a bunch of ash piles in the house and a bunch of burn marks on the floor to clean up.  Occasionally an item of furniture will be destroyed, but I've only had this happen once or twice.

A cleaning service will stop by after the game has been running a few minutes, offering their services.  If you accept their help, a maid will come in and pick up a few of the ash piles and mop up a few of the scorch marks on the floor.  When they leave, they will comment on the fact that you now have less work to do.

Edit:  Come to think of it, it was the firemen who offered to clean up.

No I do not think they are freeloaders. They may not do their jobs as well as I would like them too but I wouldn't call them free loaders. For instance I had a couple who went away on vacation for three days and when they came back the babysitter cost just $75 now that is good value for money  ;D.
$50 to fix the television in the real world I would get charged a lot more then that just for a call out fee. Never mind parts and labour.

Anyone else have a problem with the babysitters cranking up the volume to the TV and/or Stereo just to drown out the crying baby?

I don't. Maybe it's a new bug or something?
Although my sims are living in a very big house. It could be they simply don't hear the tv in the west wing when they are in the east.
