Nectar Making Problem
« on: February 14, 2011, 11:10:21 AM »

I have looked everywhere and couldn't find a similar topic

I can't make nectar. My Sims have tons of perfect fruit of every kind.  I built basements, bought nectar makers and storage, studied nectar making. When I click on the nectar maker and click "add fruit" I get this pop up window  that says "take all" and it's empty. Same thing happens when I try to do the nectar making opportunity in France. Well, nothing happens
What am I doing wrong?

Did you try dragging fruit from your sims inventory into the empty box?

Yes, at first you have to drag the fruit and drop it in the box to make nectar.  This is so you can decide what combination of fruit you use, and the quantities of the different types.  Once you have made a particular type of nectar, you will get an option to make that combination again when you click on the nectar maker.  You can choose to make nectar with just one kind of fruit, but the best types of nectar are made from using several different types of fruit.

A good one is to use 6 life fruit, 3 flame fruit and 1 cherimola blan grape.  It yields a nectar with a high value that gives all the moodlets in a single bottle.  If you're going for value alone, though, you can't beat 9 life fruit and 1 pomegranate.

So there is really no nectar already in your nectar machine when you want to make new one? I thought you've already said so, but I am just checking.

It sounds like maybe you don't have the fruit in the inventory of the Sim who is clicking on the nectar maker.  You need at least 10 pieces of fruit in inventory to make nectar.

I know a pretty good website where I sometimes find good info: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/skills/worldadventures/nectarmaking/ ;) Who knows, if you check that out you may found something you have simply overlooked. Would be awesome if that will solve your problem.

Yay! I made nectar. The guide on this site is very useful however I don't see any mention of having to drag fruit to the box. I'm one of those people who needs the "Dummies guide" :D I guess I was confused, because it looks just like the box when you open a treasure chest,  so I couldn't understand why it was empty. Also with other tasks like inventing, you don't have to drag and drop.  Anyway it's resolved now Thanks to this excellent forum!!

Good to know. I believe mostly when writing a guide for people it is difficult to really write it in such a good way that everyone can understand it right away. Therefore it is good to get this kind of feedback.
I remember lately when I was working with a 3D animation tutorial that I couldn't start with step 1 because I was missing a step 0 (clicking the right button to activate things). Searching and searching before I found which button it was and no, I couldn't find it myself I think.
Haha, I wish I had a forum for that kind of trouble. :P

Actually, you can buy those treasure chests and put them in your houses, and you can put items in them the same way.  They are very handy for storing things that you'd rather not carry around.  I store life fruit in there so they don't get used in general cooking or simply eaten when your sim gets hungry, plus I put gems and ingots in there that I plan to use in future transfigurication, just to get them out of my inventory.

With the inventor's workbench, you can invent with the scrap in your inventory.  However, if you don't want the scrap in your inventory, or if you intend for other sims to train inventing, you can drag and drop the scrap into the workbench.

Those chest ideas from Hosfac has worked for me also. It is really handy if you don't want to store your nectar in the basement, because 2500 nectar racks can slow down your game tramendiously. Okey, it only works if you don't really care about nectar aging though.

One extra tip: change the chests colour to a colour that matches the stuff you've put into it. I had a chest only for tiberium, so I've painted it green.
Another one was for collections from foreign countries, so that one was painted gold, because it are actually treasures. And so on.
Chests with ghosts where made white btw.

Very good tips. I thought those chests were purely decorative and I didn't know that about the workbench Thanks

Sort of related to the above,  is there an easy way of sharing produce within a household so its accessible to all for nectar-making ?  My problem is that I have one highly-skilled gardener who can grow excellent and perfect fruit;  and a separate nectar-maker,  who is very Handy (and a good cook).  But I can't find a way of getting the harvested produce from my gardener available to the nectar-maker - it sits in her inventory,  which the nectar-maker can't access.  One obvious solution would be for the nectar-maker to do the harvesting - but he is busy much of the time at his cooking job.  Is there something like a shared treasure chest,  or maybe something like shared fridges that might work ?

Thanks for any ideas !

You could store the fruit in the fridge, unless you have lower quality fruit in there that you use for cooking.  Unfortunately, multiple refrigerators all use the same "inventory" when placed on a lot (i.e.  If you put a meal in a fridge in the kitchen, you can pull it out of a different fridge in the basement).  But if it was your desire to keep the perfect fruit separate from the stuff you cook with, you could use a treasure chest.  And if you place multiple chests on the lot, they will all have their own separate inventory.

And in case you're unaware:  you can move an entire "stack" of items from your sim's personal inventory.  If you notice, the left hand corner of each item is a "tab," and if you click your mouse there and hold it, you can move the whole group of items.  This also works for the family inventory (or simply placing things on the floor from personal inventory), and you can place multiple items out in the lot this way.  When your finished (if you still have items left), simply click the Esc key to end the process.

Treasure chests worked the best for me, or dragging items from gardener's inventory to nectar maker Sim (Just drag it on that Sim like Hosfac explained, Sim will appear lighter and everything will be placed in his inventory). Also, when your Nectar maker chose add fruit, while inventory is open, you can switch to another Sim and chose from their inventory (it won't work only if Gardener is on a road, but if in park or rabbithole or some other lot, it will work).
