Congrats on a successful move! I've done that before too and I completely understand the amount of work involved. Wish there was a "Pick it Up in One Piece" tool!

Well done. I did that in my first dynasty attempt, and it took forever. It was a shame I had to give that up, but all my Sims went completely black, so they were all just shadows.

Part V:

It’s been a fast moving few weeks, let me tell you.  Richie Jr. is growing fast.

While Amber clearly resembles her mother in many ways, there is absolutely no doubt who Richie Jr’s father is.

Amber did some research and discovered a source of the elusive Deathfish, at the old docks near where we live.  Just to make sure that we had some on hand when we needed them, I chaperoned a late night fishing trip so Amber could reel a few in.  Even though she’s only a teenager, her sport fishing techniques are highly impressive.

It wasn’t long before Richie Jr. was going to school, too.

He’s very attached to his Aunt Odessa, much like Amber is, and he’s following in her footsteps.  It looks as though I have a budding artist on my hands.

Also, my darling daughter has recently grown up!  A friend of hers from school was there, and even the repairman took a moment out of his busy day to help her celebrate!

My stunning young lady has developed into a bombshell that could level most of this city.  She has inherited my eyes, my hair, my muscular physique, and my…well, you can see for yourself!  But she wears it all better than I ever did.  Richie gave her his skin tone and his nose, but that just makes her look more…exotic.

My first thought is that I need to get that security gate finished or I’m going to have young men breaking into the house or fighting honor duels to the death on my front porch.  But Amber solved this problem for me, by wooing the boy she had a crush on all through high school:  Horace Alderman.

They have a lot in common.  They share a passion for nature, have the same taste in music and even have the same favorite color!  It’s almost surreal how compatible they are.

She’s decided to put the wedding off a bit, because she wants a proper ceremony.  Her plan is to have it outdoors at one of the many parks around town.  Also, since cooking is her latest passion (I suppose it goes hand in hand with gardening and fishing), she wants to make all the food for the wedding with home grown fruits and vegetables.  She has also made a couple of special requests from Odessa for some of her specialties.

As for me:

After Amber grew up, I decided to start my international crime spree.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much in China worth stealing.  However, I did get the opportunity to do a few odd jobs for the locals, and I may have found something I enjoy almost as much.  Tomb exploration.  It’s like thievery, only without the victim.

One of these odd jobs required me to gather up some precious gems, metals…and get this:  bugs.  During the course of this job, I figured out that international insect trafficking can be quite lucrative.  I might make this a sideline business.

Once I returned home, the boys in blue decided that they missed me, so they invited me over to the station for another visit.  That’s what I get for being such good company I guess.

But that didn’t set me back very far, and I achieved my life’s dream:  I became a master thief!

That statue is the third most exquisite thing in the world, right behind my two children.

With the deed done, I sit down for the most glorious meal of my life:

Well, so far I've succeeded where Captain LePew failed.  Now I just have to keep my descendents motivated.

Generation 1:  Scarlett Renard
Lifetime Wish:  Become a Master Thief
Career:  Criminal/Thief Branch
SuperMax Skill:  Athletics
Lifetime Rewards:  No Bills Ever, Fireproof Homestead, Food Replicator
Black Ops:  Allow me to Introduce Myself, Just Business, Celebrity Body, A Package For You, Counting the Loot, Labeling Things.
Properties:  Hogan’s Deep Sea Diner, Ophelia’s Fishing Hole
Best Friends:  Odessa Cross (housemate), Richie Renard (husband, formerly Richie Radan), Richie Renard Jr. (second child), Doreen Slate (former boss), Mia Rao (co-worker), Samantha Bueno (co-worker/vampire with absolutely no traits at all)

Congrats on your first immortal and the upcoming wedding!

I love the little fox statue - how appropriate!  Is that the award for reaching level 10 in the thief career?

Yes it is.  The sim who got it gets a nice moodlet when they spend some time viewing it.

Chapter 2, Part I:  The Island of Amber Renard

While I do love my mother, she is a strange woman…even from the perspective of having grown up under guidance.  And it goes far beyond dreams of grandeur, her talk of immortality and her odd knack for finding other people’s things before they actually lose them.  No, to me, those things are completely normal.  But she is utterly obsessed with her own physical appearance.  You might think that it comes with the territory of being a fitness nut the way she is, but it’s deeper than that.

She maintains portraits of both of us in the basement museum, of course.  This is not really unusual by my standards, but she didn’t stop at the museum.  She insisted on having a “special portrait” made for her own bedroom.  And I’m sure that this doesn’t sound all that unusual either, only…well, seeing is believing:

Yes, she had a stylized portrait painted of her own behind.  And yes, she keeps it on the wall in her bedroom.  While it is an interesting work of art, I just can’t get beyond what it’s a painting of.  Had the posterior belonged to anyone else but my mother, I doubt I’d find it as distasteful as I do.  I think I could have faced my pending immortality a lot more comfortably without actually knowing who the model was.

Anyways, enough of that.  It’s been a rough week around the house.  Some good, but it’s more than outweighed by the bad.

As my mother told you, Horace and I have become engaged.  We weren’t “an item” in high school, but instead choose to admire each other from afar.  It wasn’t that I was shy:  it’s just that my studies were far more important to me.

Mother insisted that he move in right away, despite the fact that we weren’t yet married.  She wanted him to take up a career in sculpting (no ulterior motives on her part, huh?), and he is happy with that.  He gets to hang around the house and work in the yard between practice sculptures.

But I’m not such a homebody:  I began my career as a scientist.  It’s a rewarding career where I get to play with gadgets, plants and fish, all for the betterment of simkind.  My plan is to be an ichthyologist, but I did promise my mother that I’d help her with that cave of hers, so I’ll need to be familiar with cultural anthropology as well.  No better place to learn both than the LandGraab Industries Science Facility.

Earlier in the week, my brother Richie Jr. had his birthday.

He now gets to know the joys of high school life.  It’s a shame that I didn’t get to experience any of them with him.  It would have been a lot of fun, I think.

But not long after that…

It’s a hard thing to lose your father, even as an adult.  I can’t begin to imagine what my poor brother is going through.  Mother isn’t taking it well.  I don’t think she expected immortality to be this difficult.

The next day was Saturday, so I was out fishing…when I suddenly knew something wasn’t right.  I hurried home, just in time:

The Grim Reaper came for Aunt Odessa as she was doing one of the things she loved the most:  cooking for the family.  I’m trying to be strong for the others, but they end up consoling me as much as I do them.  Richie Jr. is understandably depressed (as am I), and even Horace is broken up about it.  But to say that my mother is devastated would actually minimize what she’s going through right now.  While she’ll undoubtedly go on, I honestly doubt she’ll ever be the same.  To lose the love of her life and then her best friend the very next day is a lot to endure.  And I fear that things will only get worse for her as time goes on.

To make things worse for me, Horace and I were in the final planning stages of our wedding, and Aunt Odessa was very excited to be a part of it.  I knew she was getting up there in the years, but I thought I’d have a little more time.  Yeah, don’t we all.

Despite this awful tragedy, the wedding will continue as planned.  It’s what she’d want.

Richie Radan-Renard

Born:  Week -3, Day -1
Died:  Week 9, Day 6 at the age of 96 days.

Odessa Cross

Born:  Week -5, Day -2
Died:  Week 9, Day 7 at the age of 110 days.

Tragedy surrounds us, but we will go on to honor the memory of those who are no longer with us.
