Ambrosia
« on: December 19, 2009, 10:34:30 PM »
In the sims 3 Ambrosia gives you extra life. However, Ambrosia is also a real life food. Does anyone know why that food was chosen as the 'sacred' sims food?

In Greek mythology ambrosia was the food of the gods and it was supposed to give immortality and youth to whoever ate it.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean by "real life" food but it's the only kind of ambrosia I know.

Here in the U.S., ambrosia is whipped cream, marshmallows, coconut, pineapple, and other fruits.  Maybe a few chopped nuts.  I had some last week.  Hubby bought it for me because of the Ambrosia in Sims 3.  Lol.  It was good, too.  :D

In UK it's used as a brand name for a maker of creamed rice pudding and custards. 'Ambrosia Cream Rice' is famous from my childhood. :D

I've never heard of those things.

I just remembered; nectar is the drink of the gods. ;)

I'm pretty sure EA is going for the godly reference for Ambrosia and not the whipped cream, marshmallow, and fruit thing.  Hehe.

You are probably right, but ambrosia is still really good!

Here in New Zealand, Ambrosia is a pot of whipped cream, a tub of fruit flavoured yogurt, chopped up marshmallows, some berries, and choc chips.
:-)
It is delicious!!

In the Sims, can you store Ambrosia in your inventory or will it go bad? I'm thinking of taking it to Egypt in case my sim can find her long lost dead husband that she didn't know she was married to....so she can bring him back to life long enough to divorce him. LOL

That's hilarious, but I'm afraid it must spoil at some point, it has fish in it.. then again nothing says you can't have a home lot with a stove and carry around the ingredients just in case you find where his remains are. Have you checked the mausoleum to 'manage the dead' where he died?

It's possible that it doesn't spoil in your inventory.  I've been able to carry it around much longer than any other dish and it didn't spoil.  It couldn't hurt, anyway.  If it does spoil, just go ahead and get rid of it.

Hm maybe they were being nice for specifically the reason that you might need it in your inventory for a while to find the ghost you're hunting.

Well she's in Egypt now and his remains are nowhere to be found.  :(  I did go ahead and put the ambrosia in my inventory and it hasn't spoiled so far. In the Mausoleum, there is only one person in there, which is strange, since there have been at least 3 deaths that I know of. I looked around in the graveyard and he's not there either. (and neither are the other people that died that I knew of)

Fairly certain the real ambrosia was named after the mythical ambrosia. :P
