Guitar Star Challenge
« on: September 23, 2009, 09:15:53 AM »
I've read on other forums that this challenge is bugged. Has anyone completed this? If so, how did you do it?

Also, what factors — aside from the obvious one of guitar skill level — influence how much tips a player makes?

Virtuoso and the guitar challenges come to mind immediately. I doubt artistic helps with tips. It's likely only to affect the speed they'll learn guitar.

It would be interesting to know if friends tip more, or Rich Sims tip more.

That's something I never thought of. I'll keep an eye out for that.

Carl, have you ever achieved the Guitar Star Challenge? I just can't seem to do it.

I've got a Rock Star who has completed everything except the Guitar Star challenge.  I'm having her perform at the stadium and the theater, trying to get that challenge completed.  I don't think the artistic trait helps with guitar.  That one is geared toward painting.  The virtuoso trait is the key for guitar players.  My Rock Star easily makes $1,500 a day in tips.  She's even gotten up to $3,000.

I'll post about the Guitar Star challenge with an update soon.

Your post made me think back to my Guitar guide. I really just threw it together based on what I knew at the time. I've learned more, and can test more lately. I'm going to revise this one and revisit this thread later with more info. I realized I don't even have the challenges for guitar listed, and that definitely wasn't intentional. Sorry 'bout that!

This thread over on the EA forum http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/25487.page
by KLHII said this is what he did to complete the challenge:
                           ***************************************

"OK, after allot of trial and error, I figured out how to complete this **** thing, lol.

Accept opportunitys that have you perform at a fund raiser (anything music related you want to grab). I did 3 of these, and the last one (At Bistro's diner) was when I got credit for the star.

DON't:
1) Throwing parties and performing, does not affect it. I did not throw any parties this time around (this was my second sim, I scraped the first guy, since I thought I missed something when trying to get this star).

2) Performing at random locations does not play a role in it. (I have 9 performaces in my guitar journal).

My daily routine was:

1) Head out to the theator, from earlier morning to 3 pm, and play for tips.

2) At 3 pm, I check to see if I can perform at the stadium (sometimes they have other events preventing me from performing there). Otherwise just perform at the theator as many times it will allow before it closes.

3) Head home, eat, sleep, and then repeat above steps.

I sure hope this helps you guys, and it did take a long time to get the star. I just wish EA was a little more clear on it, as the directions go.

Enjoy and Good Luck,"
                         *****************************************

I haven't completed this challenge myself, but my rock star did get a few opportunites to play at different venues.  My 5 star chef was offered opportunites to play at the diner and bistro.  I guess one more thing I need to finish doing...  ;D

I completed all guitar challenges with a new sim. The only way to do it is to have no other skill than the guitar skill. You need to complete guitar skill opportunities to finish the challenge and I haven't seen a guitar opportunity since I added athletics and gardening to my sim

Okay, I finally got a Sim to complete the Guitar Star Skill Challenge. It can be done. Barely. And only with a LOT of patience.

Titus is correct. Your Sim should only have the Guitar Skill otherwise the other Skills will "compete" for that Skill Opportunity slot and you'll never see the Guitar Skill Opportunities you need. It is SOLELY dependent on completing 10 Guitar Skill opportunities. Nothing else. They don't have to involve playing either. Two of my Sim's 10 were sorting music at the Bookstore.

After 10 "Sim weeks" of doing nothing but playing guitar, I am pretty sick of guitar playing.  ;D  Although that Sim really rakes in the cash playing for tips now!

Heya Metro;

Yep, your post summed it up nicely. Including my feelings about guitar at the moment. But man can that Sim rake in the Simoleans!

Word up to that, my man. Johnny had a few individual tips of 15k. That's like 4 Masterpiece paintings. From a single tip. As much as the performance/composition thing is an exploit, here's my take on it — it is somewhat of an art form. In other words, if I had a rookie Sims 3 player play my Johnny B Goode file and then I played the file under the same circumstances, same time, location, etc. — who would make more money with tips? I would. Why? Because I can read a crowd. I know when to cancel that action and draw the crowd back in. You really have to be observant and know when's the best time to do that. It's a lot of fun, and Johnny has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that tip playing has no equal for sheer income power. But as I said in that tourney thread — I'm ready to give guitar players a well earned rest for a while.

Also completed this as stated, no other skills allowed.
Gained success on Week 5, Day 5 and earned 507k along the way.
My richest toon by far and now what to do with him :)

I didn't think you would be able to resist that nice new guitar.  :D

Though I wish the grittier thrash riffing at level 8 would stay. I like it better than the way the guitar is played above that level.

Zelda is loving the guitar.

I wish EA would fix that guitar star challenge too, but I doubt they will.
