Simbots vs Butlers
« on: February 09, 2011, 10:55:43 AM »
I'm asking this not only because I am curious about your opinion, but I don't can't deside myself.
For realistic reasons I would say Butlers, because I don't see robots (or simbots) serve us humans in the upcoming 50 years, but who knows.

Please keep in mind that you could effectively lock the kitchen door to prevent butlers from cooking every two hours so that may not excuse to vote for simbots. They also don't mind of the locked door though, they simply won't try to get in.

I haven't played LN long enough really to have bothered with a butler yet, but as long as there's a neat sim in the house (and there almost always is with me) I probably won't bother.  I almost never hire the maid service.  There are so many lifetime happiness points to be gained by doing all the menial chores around the house.

And until EA fixes the "Oh my god!  It's a simbot that has lived with me my entire life, whom I've seen more than 9,000 times already!  :o " over-reaction, I will loathe them with every fiber of my being.

I picked up butlers. Not so much because I really like them, rather because I don't like Simbots. Neither did I like much the Servo from the Sims2 by the way. I'm just not the 'control-a-robot' kind of player I think. For me, they take up a slot in the household and don't add much, besides the freaky 'weee a simbot' reaction! So, butlers seems a better choice, certainly if it's only for doing the chores.

Now, butlers are not 100% optimal either. They don't always do what you want, then sometimes they just disappear. I would have wanted them to be 'customizable': when you click on them, you get a menu with tickboxes, and you can choose what you want them to do (cooking/ cleaning/ gardening...). That would have been awesome.

I loved the robot that was in the Sims1 (Superstar EP?). And even better than the 'bot was the skeleton maid from Makin' Magic: 100% efficient and funny.

I choose the simbot. You can control it, and make it do whatever you want. It is useful for creating sculptures and take photos of the family, along with portraits. I always make an all-rounder robot who can overcome any situation.

As for butler, I hired a butler for my Roman Villa, and made a room for her in the backyard. I don't know why she doesn't go there, and keeps drinking coffee for energy. Probably I didn't give any way back to her room, I mean I mistakenly made the passage impassable.

Well, for most time, I choose butler. It is cheaper, easier to get, and I always wanted a servant in my household. But sometimes he/she cooks food even when someone is not hungry, and stock up the fridge with leftovers. My fridge is totally smelly by now. Also I got a Kleptomaniac butler, who swiped away my things when he was alone in the room.

I voted 'None'. Why? Because I prefer my sims to serve themselves. I've not played Late Night, but according to many (way many!) comments, Butlers force your sim to eat, even if they're not hungry, by preparing various meals. I don't like that. And let's remember that SimBots have their own need bars that need to be filled. That's why.

EDIT: I don't like Butlers because they are getting lost in the town clueless. Only way to get rid of them if they disappear is to be enemies with them. (I posted this because Leto mentioned in his post that my first opinion was not an excuse.  ;D )
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

I voted None because they both annoy me.  Simbots would be ok except for the reaction other Sims always have.  It interferes with everything they try to do.  I have to queue things up at least twice when dealing with a Simbot because the first will be cancelled so the Sim can have the reaction.  Butlers annoy me because they don't do things as I would have my Sim do them.  I recently had a butler helping a single mother with twins.  He would cook, but not at the right times.  At least half the time, she was in the kitchen cooking for herself because the butler was busy sitting in a chair.  I also don't like how butlers care for toddlers.  Even with the family oriented trait, this butler didn't bother with them until their needs were nearly in the red.

So, for me, the best solution is to have neither and have my Sims take care of themselves.

I voted none because, like Pam, I find them both annoying.

The butlers, for me, always stick around a week, then just disappear. When they aren't stuffing the refrigerator with foods and making my sims fat. I'm also specific on how I build my kitchens - I tried setting the fridge in its own room with a locked door, and that just felt clunky and clumsy to me. Plus, my butler kept throwing a tantrum, and watching adult males throw tantrums repeatedly makes me want to drop a meteor on their heads.

I'm currently running with a Simbot in my Lineage, and the reactions are stupid. I mean, really stupid. "ZOMG a ROBOT! Oh hey, Vampire/Mummy/Ghost, how goes it?"

Seriously?

I chose none.  I have never played a simbot.  As for a butler, I have had one once.  I really enjoyed it.  Thankfully my butler never got hit with any bugs.  But she was the one and only.  Haven't had one since.

Sims react the same for a mummy and a ghost as they do for a Simbot, which is part of why I don't like to play them, either.  Vampires don't get a reaction, though.

I too choose none.  The only time my Sims hired a butler was because it was required by their story, i.e. they are very rich Sims whose lifestyle must have a butler in their mansion.  I do find him annoying too, he keeps on cooking, cooking, cooking even in his own kitchen above the garage. He does not have much to do but sit around all day. I find the maids are more useful, they clean the house and quickly disappear.  The Simbots I would not try fearing they might cause havoc in the household for some reason. :-\

I have found that even maids are useless and annoying if your family is a celebrity family.  They keep getting starstruck, asking for autographs, and taking pictures.  Then they leave without cleaning anything!  They sure get their money, though.  I went through several maids and finally gave up.

I've chosen none. The reasons are the same: Butlers keep feeding up my sims and the OMG reaction to a simbot.

I remember that simbot from the Sims 1, that you turn on when going to sleep, it cleans everything and turns off. That was awesome! I really miss that...

Kate Pistachio is the worst ever!!!! Grady actually does his job. The babysitters on the otherhand, they're either downright smothering and annoying to the children, or just put the tv, and dance on the stereo to drown out the crying babies. They're just in it for the cash. Candy Ashleydale is downright annoying. She doesn't do her job. Davy, has kidnapped a few kids.

My maid used to steal my TV. I thought that a burglar or a bug is there, but my game is fully patched, so I found out that she had stolen the TV, my guitar, and some more things that I don't remember. >:(

I switched that maid to another, but the new one was even more annoying. He came to my house, brushed his teeth, sat on couch and started watching TV. Then after an hour, he stood up and went to the office room, and started playing games. Then he broke up my sink and didn't clean up anything. After sometime, he left, leaving the house as it was. :o
