Story Progression Problems in Bridgeport?
« on: February 06, 2011, 07:55:10 AM »
I'm currently playing a dynasty in Bridgeport, and my gen 2 heiress is a teenager.  Everyday since becoming a child she goes to school to "meet new friends."  A couple days into high school the game said that she had met everyone.  She has only met 2 boys, both paperboys, and one of them quickly moved away.  She also met 2 girls, both babysitters.

I'm wondering if anyone else is having problems with story progression in Bridgeport?

I'm thinking I'm going to have to have Foodie Dynasty 2.0 in a different hood.

Most of my sims also only meet 4-5 kids in school. It is unusual?  ???

But they are not usually all NPC's, which are buggy.

Edit:  I just opened my Foodie Dynasty and the only male schoolmate, which had been 4-5 days younger than my heiress, is now a YA and my heiress still has 8 days left at teen.  I realize that this is the problem that NPC's have, and that it is not unique to Bridgeport.  But I also don't have new families moving in, which hasn't happened to me before in other towns.

I haven't experienced this problem. My first suggestion would be to open a new file and test to see if you experience the same thing again. If you don't then it's probably a bug.

I'm playing a vampire family in Bridgeport, and most of the old townies have died off.  They are being replaced by new townies, but it doesn't seem to be quite as fast.  I've also noticed that a bunch of unemployed townies have moved into the NPC apartments, too.  The 3rd generation vampire kid isn't having a whole lot of trouble meeting other kids at school, and most of them aren't NPC's.

I have noticed the same problem, but especially with Celebrities. Since the high star level townies died no one is really above star level 2 but my Sims. My 2nd gen Sim is a 5 star celebrity and she doesn't seem to increase other Sims star levels when they make friends. Is that a glitch in my game or are other people seeing this as well?
My 3rd gen Sims are still tots, but I'll report as soon they start school to see how many students there are.

I have a tenancy to import my own more attractive townies anyway to improve the genetics of the whole town, but I was trying not to do that this time.

Yes, I've definitely noticed that, too.  Sometimes I wish my sims had as much difficulty in raising their celebrity level.    :-\

Bridgeport is not a family oriented town, so there aren't many children to begin with.  As a result, there aren't a lot of second generation townies, either.  Are you reading the newspaper to see the new families in town?  That's the best way to keep up with them.

This is the only thing I hate about Bridgeport - there are NO kids at all. There is only Jupiter (Lola's adopted son) and the Hemlock toddler (I forgot her name.) Otherwise, it's only babysitters and paperboys, so my sims can't have many sleepovers.

When you start out, there's also Jett Adkins, Lil Bling, Elspeth Cook, and several other teenagers who aren't NPC's.  I've never had a child in Bridgeport that early so I can't say who's there from that age bracket or younger.

Without some sort of cheat involved it's almost impossible to do a dynasty in BP due to lack of kids.  I gave it a brief shot, but I dislike BP very much so didn't even publish any of the story I was working on.  I think you'd have to first of all make sure there was housing that could handle a family and then kill off some of the townies and hope the game adds families or build houses and add kids of your own.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

If story progression works the way it's supposed to, as the original townies die off, new townies should move in and take their place.  The key word being:  should.

I'll agree that Bridgeport isn't very family oriented.  But how is the town supposed to get repopulated?  There were two male sims and two female sims living in Art Central, but instead of pairing up and having kids like you'd think they would (or even adopting kids), 3 out of 4 of them have died of old age without having children.  I've also seen single townies move in, grow old and die...apparently without even having a romantic interest.  Elvira Slayer has outlived two live-in boyfriends, and hasn't even had a child.  She's an elder now, so those days are behind her.  Beau Merrick and Bianca Rubble have been married almost since the beginning of the game I started there, and no kids.  And this game has been going for more than 100 days on normal speed.  Sims just aren't reproducing at all.

I find that quite odd.

That is quite abnormal. My guess would be that because Bridgeport isn't family oriented, story progression in Bridgeport alone is programed to limit the amount of children born. This is farfetched I know, but I'm just speculating. Maybe it will be fixed in a patch or something.
