Late Night Questions
« on: February 05, 2011, 11:10:24 PM »
Some of these have probably already been asked and long since answered, but I didn't see them so I figured I'd ask again:

As building houses is one of my favorite things to do, I've been wondering if it was possible to build your own high rise.  Can this be done?  If it can:  How?  And if it can't:  is it possible to alter some of the high rises that already exist?  And if that is possible:  How?

Edit:  I spoke too soon on this one.  I found this partially explained in the building forum.

Vampires and celebrities are already generated in Bridgeport, and from what I understand, Barnacle Bay had celebrity information ready for specific sims when it was designed.

Do you require a vampire bar to to have vampires in Sunset Valley, Riverview Barnacle Bay or Twinbrook?  If not, how are the vampires generated?  Is it determined by information contained in the expansion or are they randomly selected?  I only ask because I have yet to encounter vampires in Barnacle Bay.

Are celebrities in the three older towns pre-determined or are they randomly generated?

Normal sims are turned into vampires randomly, in Sunset Valley and Twinbrook. Not sure about Riverview and Barnacle Bay. You can try to cure/kill all vampires, but new ones will spawn.

At those neighborhoods, sims become celebrities depending mostly on how popular they are. Getting your own sim to starlevel 3 is quite easy; You just need about 25 friends or so (not sure). As townies get friends too, they get starlevel. Hardly ever any townie will get to 5 stars.

I think I remember seeing it mentioned in another thread, but did Late Night bring a new gem or two into the game to collect?  I'm working on attempting to play test a challenge and I need to get all the gems in the game.

Make sure the challenge asks you to get gems from expansions too; Maybe it doesn't.

Late Night collectables are Vampire's Eye (gem), Smithsonite (gem), Carbon Steel (metal), Tungsten Carbide (metal), Termite (beetle), Spider (beetle), and Will-O'-Wisp (butterfly, 3 different colors).

That is why I was asking about late night.  Thanks for the list Naga.  Guess I never realized collectively how many gems there are.  25 in total now.

Oh, and any suggestions on where I might find Vampire's Eye and Smithsonite in Sunset Valley?  Are they spawns, or can they be found in breaking statues, or is my only real chance of finding them rummaging through trash or using the driller?

Driller, trash rummaging, stone sculpting, space-rock breaking, cosignment store... I don't think there are any spawners.

This same fact just dawned on me today. I realized I had vampires galore in all towns that had Plasma 501 in it. I didn't place it in Barnacle Bay because it doesn't fit in the down. I have yet to come across a vampire there. I think it's ted to Plasma 501 somehow.

This suits me fine because I'm not fond of the vampires. They're okay but I just don't prefer playing them. It also annoys me that the town turns to vampires at such an astronomical rate!

No, it's not tied to Plasma 101.  I had vampires in Sunset Valley long before I put any of the Late Night buildings in.

I'm playing my Dynasty in Barnacle bay, and almost all of the founder's coworkers are vampires.  I didn't put any of the clubs in the town, either.  Just the movie studio.

Vampires and Celebrities are random in places like Sunset Valley, Twinbrook and RiverView (I don't have Barnacle Bay so I can't say the same for that). Story Progression will automatically add them into those towns after a couple of sim days. The quickest I've seen them is two, but that's not to say it can't happen earlier than that.

(I don't have Barnacle Bay so I can't say the same for that).

Barnacle Bay comes pre-programmed with Celebrity data for the citizens there.  It was originally thought to be a glitch since Barnacle Bay predates Late Night and celebrities appear the moment you load the town, but someone at Sims Wiki took a peek at the code and saw that EA had simply planned ahead (however the article on Sims Wiki still contradicts itself).  Plus, if you play several games there, you'll notice that the sims that are celebrities will always be celebrities, and at identical levels.

Vampires on the other hand are totally random, and handled by story progression as far as I can tell.

Wow that's pretty interesting. EA almost spoiled Late Night before it even came out lol. I have got to get my hands on that town.
