Simbot Surprise
« on: February 04, 2011, 07:51:45 PM »
Can someone tell me if sims living with a simbot are still super surprised every time they see him to the point of forgetting what they were doing after Night Life is installed?  This really annoyed me and I am scared to invest and build another simbot just to test it.

EDIT:  Oops I mean Late Night of course!

Scared to invest and build another simbot? But it's so easy...

Either way, the sims are still being surprised by a simbot every second they spend near one, cancelling the whole queue (like that 8-action queue you make for your sim while he/she sleeps) and stop doing whatever they're doing* to react to a SimBot, even if they have already seen the same SimBot at least a thousand times and live with it.

*Picture this little thing that happened to Steven Brustle (my signature's sim) when he had a SimBot:
-So I'm gonna take out the trash, lalala...
*Stops walking*
*Drops loaded trashbag in the middle of the living room for no apparent reason*
*Forgets what he was about to do next*
*Looks at Robbie Brustle, the SimBot that he built, who has also been his best friend and roommate for over 2 generations*
-OH MY GOD! A SIMBOT!
*Gets frightened as if he saw a mummy, and panics upon thinking what technology is capable of doing and if it will take over the world*

Haha, thanks Naga!   I will set the stupid bot free immediately then.  Let's hope he doesn't like wandering through the park when I'm trying to accomplish anything.

This isn't really a topic about Late Night, so I'm moving it to the Ambitions board.

Simbots are really not that useless. Mine recycles the newspaper every day, and I find it very neat that you can reprogram it with any trait you wish without spending lifetime happiness points on mid-life crisis.

Recycle the newspaper? You could get a maid to do it, you could drag the newspaper to your sim's inventory's sell button thing, or even let a Eco-Friendly sim do it for a moodlet or something. Even if you do reprogram the SimBot, it will still be breaking down every time it gets in contact with water.

Naga, it's just the simplest thing a simbot can do. Mine also does the laundry, puts away books and leftovers, and saves lots of time. They're better than maids, because a maid charges 125$ for a clean-up and the simbot takes nothing (and I'm way too lazy to drag the laundry and the newspaper myself to the trashcan or to the laundry can). The best thing about them is that they are immune to fire and are counted as the child of their inventor so it makes possible to have a photo of your child for the photography collection even if you don't have a real one.

Mine breaks down upon chatting with the microwave.

Stupid thing. I can't wait for the one in my lineage to just rust of old age.

@inclement - If you have a handy sim, command him/her to repair the simbot. Or, if the sim is busy, just wait 4 hours for the moodlet to vanish. The last solution is, if you use cheats, type in the cheat box (CTRL+SHIFT+C) testingcheatsenabled true, then CTRL+Click the moodlet and it should vanish right away so your simbot can continue chatting with the microwave!

Nah, he stopped breaking down when I remodelled their house from basement up.

You want a real laugh?

Wait until a simbot dies, and then place the gravestone on the lot.  When the simbot ghost wanders around in the house, any sim it comes near will wake up from a dead sleep to react, not once, but twice.  Once because it's a simbot, and then immediately after because it's a ghost.

And really, you'd think something as simple as this would be easy to fix.

Even more simple  solution is to drag newspaper into any garbage can, you won't have to sell it in inventory. Same with dishes - drag them to dishwashing machine, and laundry - to that laundry basket. Something to do while Sims are asleep, without additional clicking while selling in inventory.

That depends a lot on how far your camera is from a trash can; My sims's lot is a 60x60, and any trash can is at least 20 squares away from where the newspaper spawns, so I just drag them to the inventory because it is always there and close.

I understand that talking about recycling objects is very interesting, but please let's stay on topic. :-)
Talking about simbots: Did you know that your sims just won't get the 'Oh, simbot!' thingie if static needs is on? Please correct if this is wrong.

This is wrong. I play with static motives most of the time, and yet my first post in this topic kept happening over and over again, regardlessly.
