I got triplets with two girls and one boy which confused me so much that I missed it and had to go to the city hall and have his name changed to a boy's name!
I got 2 boys 1 girl. It was a story I'm playing so thankfully I was choosy on the names or else I'm sure I would have ended up with the girl having a male name lol.

I just recently found out how to increase the chance of having mixed gender twins, and have just tested it. It was quite simple to do.

A. Have a pregnant Sim
B. Once it announces shes aware of pregnancy, get a doctor (lvl 5 or over) to tell her what shes having.
C. Whatever the gender of the baby is, eat 3 of the opposite fruit. Watermelons for girls. Apples for boys.
D. Listen to the kids music and/or make her watch the kids channel (this is to try and ensure multiples. This doesn't make multiples, it just increases the chances of having mixed gender twins/triplets.)

This might be useful in the guide seeing as you have how to get multiples, and boys/girls, but nothing on mixed gender multiples.

There is actually an entire thread that already says this.  It's on the General Discussion board.

Also ever since Pets came out, mixed gender twins can happen without you doing anything.  Including not eating any fruit.

This actually happens spontaneously in my games fairly often.  I've never done it on purpose.  Now I'm wondering if it's unusual ...

Since pets came out, it's actually become much more commonplace.

I'm surprised to see this topic. I purchased the base game when it first came out, and the very first set of twins my sim had were a boy and a girl. I stopped playing for a couple of years, started again yesterday (yay for Baby Boomer IV!) and the first set of twins my sim had were also a boy and a girl!

It's highly unlikely that you got mixed gender twins when the game was first released in July 2009 unless you did something to make it happen.  The game simply did not produce mixed gender twins until much later.  Are you perhaps remembering Sims 2 or something else?

My Sims very rarely have same-gender twins. It's almost always a boy and a girl, and I don't do anything special. My adults never watch the Kids channel, or listen to kids music (I hate the way it sounds, lol). I've only had triplets once, and that was 2 girls and a boy. But then, I didn't pick up TS3 when it first came out, I actually didn't get it until late 2010, early 2011 (I don't quite recall). But it's neat to see that players have put so much info out there, I'll have to try these tricks to get triplets again :) It's challenging but fun.

I was aiming for mixed-gender twins with one of my sims and got triplets! Two girls and one boy. Both parents had the fertility treatment and I had the mother watch the kids' channel and listen to the kids radio station at the same time a lot.

Before that, I don't think I've ever had mixed-gender twins. I only had triplets one other time and they were all girls.
The outside is quiet, but the inside is on full blast.

I don't think I have ever had twins be different genders, but nearly every time my sims have had triplets they have been mixed. In my current save, they had one boy, then had triplets, 2 girls and a boy, then right after that the father gave birth to an alien baby, a girl, and mom is pregnant again! It's chaos since they are so close in age

I had the weirdest thing happen in my Immortal Dynasty game. Gobias Koffi managed to have mixed twins with Agnes Crumplebottom who wasn't actually living in the household. What made it even weirder was that neither had the Fertility Treatment either. Does anybody have an explaination to how this could have happened or if it's ever happened to you?

Twins do happen randomly with no help from the player.  It's not overly common, but it definitely happens.  My Immortal Dynasty founder gave birth to twins and caught me completely by surprise.

Oh yes, I'd completely forgotten about that. I remember actually remember a similar thing happening to me in a failed Immortal Dynasty. I did absolutely nothing to influence twins or even gender (if I remember correctly) and I got mixed twins. It's weird because when I want mixed twins, I end up with singletons and when I don't want twins, I get them! Well, I suppose they're all nooboos so why does it matter?  ;D

I'm very new and have only been playing a week. I started out with one female Sim, eventually got her married, and after a couple of unsuccessful attempts to get pregnant decided to go for fertility treatment. By this stage I was getting worried that the parents, who were approaching full Adult status, might be pretty old by the time any children were fully grown.

Anyway, the result was twins, one girl and one boy. I didn't do anything special to make this happen, and I certainly couldn't tell you what the mother ate beforehand.

Interestingly enough, the older twin, Holly, matured to become a toddler the day before her brother, Thomas. As far as I remember they were both born around 2-3am at the hospital. I did take a rather long time deciding on traits for Holly before the second child window popped up, so maybe that has something to do with the difference in birthdays...
