High Rise Living and Cars
« on: February 02, 2011, 08:32:42 PM »
I have a sim living in a high rise apartment, and I'm saving up to buy them a car.  My issue is that I don't see a parking lot anywhere.  Is it possible to get cars for sims in high rise buildings?  And if so, how do I do it?

You can put cars into your sim's personal inventory as far as I know.

I had the same issue when I started playing Late Night.  My solution was to use moveobjects on so that I could put a parking place and a car in the apartment.  Then I put the car in my inventory and deleted the parking space.  It worked out alright.

I am aware of this, but you can't place a car on a lot without a parking space:

That...is a stroke of genius.

Thanks, my problem will soon be solved.   ;D

*face palm* How did I not think of that? Moveobjects on is always on when I play. I think my senioritis is spreading.

I noticed that a few have a parting space you can use. Though not many do, I would need to look up which ones do.

I've noticed a couple, too...however they are all occupied for the most part.  Also, if the spaces are outside the apartment (i.e. public areas), since you can't change things outside your apartment, you might not be able to put cars into them through buy mode without using cheats.  I'm not totally sure how that would work, though.

I think Pam's idea is the best way to go for this. You could of course go into edit town and add parking spaces to the apartments as well, but that will require some moving around and it will of course be a tight fit.

It would also require using some of the more advanced cheats, too.  Once you place the shell or start placing area markers, building outside the available apartment starts to get a little whacky.  Also, if there's no room because of how the shell itself is placed (there are a couple that fit into this category), you're completely out of luck.  Once the shell is placed, there's absolutely no moving it or getting rid of it.  You can undo your last actions if you've just recently placed it, but on an existing building, the only way to get rid of the shell is bulldozing the entire lot.

I really wanted a huge penthouse (top two floors) so I did a lot of cheating with restrictbuildbuyinbuildings off. To deal with the car situation I built a little garage on the first floor and a door to it across from the elevator. It works just fine and my Sim parks there regularly.

An indoor garage?  That's not a bad idea.

That's a wondeful idea! I might just do that.
