Sims Vacation Homes!

Hey me again I just wanted to know if you can sell your vacation homes on world adventures, because I have one in Egypt and two in China but my woman had more children and I need a bigger place. I've been looking around trying to find how to sell but i can't figure it out! any help?

Good question. This is a part of World Adventures I haven't touched yet. I know the Buy and Build buttons are unavailable during vacation, so if you can get money for vacation homes, I'm guessing it's going to involve the Edit Town button. Or a cheat.

Not when you own a vacation home. Then they work like usual.

Thanks for the info, PJ. I knew someone would inevitably correct me since I have 0 experience there.  :D

Owning a vacation home just sounds like too much fun. But, my question is — what if you're not really into all of the tomb exploring? I know building vacation homes requires a certain VISA level. So, are there other ways to raise that than jumping through all of the adventure hoops?

Not really. Of course not all the adventures involves tombs, you can skip those and try to get the ones that are more like running errands, picking up rocks, making nectar...
And I've noticed a lot of adventures gives you points just for "reporting in". So you can go listen to what the Sim wants, then cancel the adventure if you don't want to do it and still get a few points.

My sim Renee is truly a globe-hopper with having her second vacation home in China.  I love having vacation homes because it lets me decorate that house in the manner of the country it's in.  One in France, now China then on to Egypt.  Her house in Riverview is decorated in her own style.  ;D

The base camps were not fitting the bill of staying more than 5 days.  She's now up to 18 days and I just can't see sleeping in a tent and eating quick meals for the equivelent of 2-3 weeks.  :P  Every so often her b/f Jon Lessen comes along and does a little adventure of his own or just hangs out at the house while she explores tombs.  The collection helper works in all 3 locations and she spends 1-2 days just hunting for gems and bugs.

I just love the vacation homes! ;D

I love the vacation homes too! My sim has one in each location as well and they are all decorated according to the country they're in. I've also discovered, (from playing my previous sim) that it's a good idea to get a vacation home as close to the center of the city as possible to prevent all the running around. My first sim had his vacation home way the heck up in the hills in China and it was literally about a 4 hour trek just to get to the city! And if he happened to have an adventure on the other side of town, it took even longer. Now though, I'm using the "teleport" option a lot more frequently to cut down on some of the travel time and allow more time for exploring and adventures.

I have a Sim with a vacation home in Shang Simla, China.  It's right in the middle of town and I love it!  It's decorated in the Chinese theme and I've added two gorgeous pools and a garden.  It's got all the comforts of home with nice beds, television, computer, etc.  It truly is a vacation, too, because with a house full of 8 Sims, it's nice to take just 3 or 4 of them and not have all the commotion of school and work.

Me too Pam. My sim bought the West Royal House in the Forbidden City and customized it to her liking. It's a really beautiful home with all the amenities. I even added a basement complete with a secret hidden staircase that only she can access.

Yup, that's my Sim's house.  The grassy areas there with the two trees are where I put in pools.  The garden is behind the house.  I pulled up some of the stone/concrete for it.  I've also expanded the upper level to make a large room to house all of her gems.  Oh, and it has a jade green roof now.  Heh.

I didn't do much structurally to mine except for add the basement for all her martial arts and weight bench equipment and extra storage. But I did add a door to the kitchen and bathroom. Did you notice that there were no doors to those?  Of course, I also changed all the wall coverings and flooring to make it pretty.

Another thing I noticed recently, (don't know why I never noticed it before) is that when you are using the cheat to "teleport here"....you also get the options to build or buy on this lot! That is SO cool! I've started gifting some of the local sims kitchen appliances when I go to visit. LOL  None of them have dishwashers and trash compactors, so I've started putting them in some houses. It's funny because the local sims seem really appreciative!

Yes!  I did notice the missing doors!  I forgot about that.  Lol.  I didn't mess much with the floors and walls, but I put my own furnishings and decorations inside.  I have the Asian Fusion set from the Store and it looks great.  This particular family is wealthy (it's my Rock Star LTW family, starring Adam Ant http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/lifetimewishes/rockstar.php) and I hope to eventually get equally lovely vacation houses in Al Simhara and Champs Les Sims.  But I think Shang Simla will always be my favorite.

Question Pam......since you have the same house that I do.....

Are your sims able to use that downstairs bathroom once you added a door? Mine aren't. It's as if there still isn't a door there. They start to go toward it and then stop and I can not get them into the bathroom. I've deleted and re-installed the door several times and it still won't work.

Edited to add:  Ok this is even stranger! I "teleported" my sim into the bathroom to have him practice his speech in the mirror. He immediately turned around and walked out of the door and went outside to go around the long way to go back into the bathroom and then stopped again as if he couldn't get in there! I may have to knock down the bathroom completely and re-build it.
